  • Mccane asks RUSSIA for money?

UNITED NATIONS, October 20 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's permanent mission to the UN has received a letter from U.S. Republican presidential candidate John McCain asking for financial support of his election campaign, the mission said in a statement on Monday.

"We have received a letter from Senator John McCain with a request for a financial donation to his presidential election campaign. In this respect we have to reiterate that neither Russia's permanent mission to the UN nor the Russian government or its officials finance political activities in foreign countries," the statement said.

According to Ruslan Bakhtin, press secretary of the Russian mission, the letter dated September 29 and signed by McCain, was addressed to Vitaly Churkin, Russia's envoy to the UN, and arrived on October 16.

The ambassador's title was not included in the letter, and was not clear why the letter had taken over two weeks to arrive.

Enclosed was a request for a donation of up to $5,000 to McCain's election campaign to be returned with a check or permission to withdraw the money from the donor's credit card until October 24.

Individual donations to candidates' election campaigns are capped by law at $2,300, and it is illegal to accept donations from foreign nationals.

McCain accepted the $84 million in public financing available to his election campaign, and consequently cannot accept private donations. However, the Republican National Committee is collecting donations that can be used to support his candidacy in limited ways.

Legal barriers aside, the request and the official response from the Russian mission appear even more confusing in the light of McCain's overall negative attitude toward Russia.

Last year he said the G8 should exclude Russia, citing "diminishing political freedoms, a leadership dominated by a clique of former intelligence officers, [and] efforts to bully democratic neighbors."

On August 12, during the brief conflict between Russia and Georgia in its breakaway region of South Ossetia, McCain said he had told Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili: " I know I speak for every American when I say to him, 'Today, we are all Georgians.'''

    Hmmmm.

  • McCane keeps 84 million while country goes BUST!?

The US is circling the financial drain, McCane says borrow more to bail out Big Banks that are now Bust because of their greed and government mis-managment while he "the savior of us all" keeps his 84 million in government campaign money rather than doing like Obama and using private donations.

  • Friskies canned cat food mystery enzyme so cat will eat?

I noticed that the Friskies canned cat food all has a "sauce or gravy" in it and also notice how my cats reacted to it, they want to eat anything the sauce or gravy is on...even a ROCK.

I've been told by two other cat food makers that Purina uses a special enzyme that is sprayed on the food and also on their dry food to make cats eat it.

Anyone have a clue what it might be, the effect is almost like catnip to a cat.

  • Easy way to cut refrigerator and freezer energy use?

No matter the age of the fridge or freezer, many meats and food products are boxed or display packed in styrofoam and plastic.

Simply remove those items from their packaging, put contents in a plastic bag or ziplock type bag and the savings begin by making your fridge/freezer work less by not having to cool through the packaging...a good example, some ground turkey packaged in styrofoam base with a plastic cover took four hours to freeze solid where the one repackaged in a ziplock bag took only 45 minutes!

The thinner the packaging the better!

Works great, simple and affordable and your appliance will last longer and you will save lots on energy!

  • Increase fuel mileage 20% and GM appproved it...so where is it?

A British firm has developed a new form of automatic transmission that it says can cut fuel consumption on SUVs and trucks by 20 percent when compared with a conventional automatic gearbox.

The company, Torotrak, says that the cost of its Infinitely Variable Transmission is comparable to a conventional auto box, and it is looking for an American company interested in building the units for sale to American manufacturers. GM has already tested the Torotrak system and approved it, and although the company is not prepared to build the transmissions itself, it would be prepared to look at proposals from any of its Tier 1 component suppliers who were prepared to undertake manufacture of the gearboxes.

The Torotrak transmission differs from a conventional automatic in that it has no torque converter. The torque converter transfers the drive from the engine to the gearbox by means of a fluid coupling that takes the place of the mechanical clutch used in manual transmissions. The fluid allows the drive from the engine to "slip" while the car is at rest or while shifts are being made, thus making it unnecessary to disengage the drive using the clutch.

Pretty amazing...this revolutionary product has been around since 2002!

  • GM Ecotec Diesel in every country but the US..WHY?

Built by GM, a company in the US that is drowning in red ink yet in Europe GM is building advanced, efficient cars and the US seems to get only the bathroom droppings.

They always blame it on not meeting US standards, I guess nobody can build to such low quality standards.

  • Seen article from Car and Driver on E-85?

    Anything on E85 - Feature

    Closet Gas Hogs

    Anything on E85

    City/Highway: Minus 25 percent

E85, a blended fuel consisting of 85-percent ethanol and 15-percent gasoline, has been championed (by GM in particular) as a viable and green solution to the petroleum problem. Unfortunately, both adjectives are a stretch. You could fill volumes with debate over the benefits and social, fiscal, and environmental costs of ethanol, at least the starch-derived strains, so we won’t.

What you need to know is that E85 reduces the fuel economy of any vehicle burning it by about 25 percent. For example, the grand-prize glugger of the full-size-truck segment, the Dodge Ram 1500, gets 12 mpg in the city and 16 on the highway. Fill ’er up with E85, and the fuel “economy” falls to 9/12. That’s right, a single-digit mpg number, something the average person only experiences in Uncle Dwayne’s RV or when renting a U-Haul truck. Or take the Dodge Avenger V-6, which gets a semi-respectable 19 city/27 highway. Pour in the corn juice, and watch mileage drop to an SUV-like 13/20.

Pres. George Bush recently announced a proposed mandate for 35 billion gallons of ethanol production by 2017, so you’ll probably see more vehicles so equipped, regardless. An upshot of an ethanol/alcohol future is that we tired journalists will have a whole new hamper of words and terms involving alcoholism and ethanol overindulgence to reach into.
