5 Point Messianic Calvinist
In a very small nutshell: Raised Southern Baptist, now reform, looking into Messianic Judaism. Married to coolest girl ever. I tell the Army how to spend their money. I enjoy sports, my favorite being hockey. My spiritual gift is sarcasm. The boys of Stellar Kart are my good friends.
Do faith and truth ever overlap?

1 AnswerFantasy Sports1 decade agoCan I take a door off of spring-tension hinge?
Here's my situation. My dog recently tore the weather stripping off the bottom of the door between my house and garage. Obviously, I need to access the bottom of the door to replace this, so I'm looking to take the door off the hinges. The hinges are spring-loaded such that the door will close automatically. I've figured out how to completely relieve the tension, such that the door swings freely, however is there a way to take the door off the hinges without completely unscrewing the door from the door jam? If so, how do I do that...
4 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoTo all... do you plan on watching the inauguration on Tuesday? Why or why not?
Also, what (if anything) does it mean to you personally? (I'm looking for the simple answers, not the immensely political answers.)
General questions, just for thoughts...
26 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs it being a good steward to give a needy person money if you don't know what they'll do with it?
For example... As Christians, we are called to take care of the least among us. I've always been opposed to giving money to people, because I viewed this as not being a good steward with the talents I've been given. I always thought providing for the immediate needs (food, clothing, shelter) was a more stewardly gesture.
However, is that considered judging someone for what they "look" like they'll buy with the money I give them? Which, by commandment, I'm not supposed to do either.
Your thoughts...
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do we call him Jesus?
His proper, given name was Yeshua Ben Yosef. Why do you call him by his "English" (derived from the Latin, derived from the Greek, derived from the Hebrew) transliterated name?
Hypothetical situation: If the new guy/girl at work was named Juan or Maria and went by Juan or Maria, would you translate that into English anyway and call them John or Mary?
If we would pay these people the respect of calling them by their proper, given names, why don't we pay that same respect to our Savior?
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat do they put on boxers eyebrows and cheeks before a match?
Before a fight, while the ref is checking the fighters for any illegal objects, I always see a gentleman rubbing something on the fighter's face, around the eyebrows and cheeks, particularly. What is this, and what is the purpose of it?

What did Jesus mean when he said, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." (Matt 5:17, ESV)
What implications does this have for your life today?

Paula seemed to know what would happen with Jason's second song before he sang it last night!! And it wasn't just a slip of the tongue, she referenced his "second song" and his "two songs"...
Interesting if nothing else...

My 'bottom three': Brooke, Jason, and Syesha
My 'person going home': Jason (Mariah just wasn't his thing...)

16 AnswersReality Television1 decade agoPOLL: Who are better fans: pro sports fans or college sports fans?
The reason I ask is that I attended the NCAA Frozen Four Championship game this weekend and was amazed at the fans for multiple reasons.
1. The North Dakota fans were cheering (very vocally) for the Fighting Irish, even chanting back and forth with the Irish fans. Granted, Boston College had beaten North Dakota to get to the finals, but still...
2. VERY few people actually left the game before it was over. At pro sports games I've been to, there's that "5-minutes-left-beat-the-crowd-to-the-parking-lot" exodus. Not the case here.
and 3. In a 4-1 Boston College game with 30 seconds left, the Fighting Irish fans gave their team a standing ovation and stood through the rest of the game. When's the last time you've seen a losing team get a standing O from their fans (the ones that haven't gone to the parking lot)?
Maybe it was because this was the national championship game, but it brought to mind the question: overall, are pro fans or college fans better?
