Hello contacts, "fans", and random stalkers! Not sure how much I want people online to know about me, so I'll keep this brief-ish: My name is John, and I'm a 19 year old Chinese-Canadian (so NOT a minority in Toronto now =D) university student in Canada. I''m mainly on Y!A because of the R&P (Rock and Pop) section. It's a pretty cool place to discuss music of all kinds (though I mainly focus on the Metal questions =P). I'm on-and-off depending on how busy I am...school's a pain, so I tend to be less active during that period.

  • Section 85: Can I transfer into a corporation a part of a building?

Eg) I have a building - 30% of it is used for my business (as an office space) and 70% of it is rented out. I wish to transfer the office space into my building on a tax-deferred basis using s. 85 but I want to keep the rental component out because that will ruin my SBC status. Can I do elect to s. 85 rollover on only part of the building that relates to my office space?

[Note: this applies only to Canadian taxation]

    Sources are appreciated, thanks!

  • How to make All Sounds come from One Speaker?

I don't mean: a level adjustment where you simply mute one speaker. For certain songs, for instance, you'll have different sounds coming from the left and right speaker. (Perhaps the song starts off with a guitar track that's only audible on the right speaker). Currently, my right speaker is blown out...but I want to be able to listen to the music in its full capacity (i.e. combining the right and left) with only the left speaker. Is this possible?

  • CRA Moving Expenses - Work Location Not Fixed?

How would CRA assess the 40 km rule for a 'new work location' in cases where an individual is a salesperson and their work location is not fixed, since they never work at the office but drive around meeting clients in different locations? Say a salesperson originally had a sales area covering a small area, but due to layoffs, their sales area increased and they had to move as a result. How would the 40 km rule be applied in this case?

Please cite any relevant cases or bulletins, thanks!

  • So Here's Something I Never Knew...?

    From xkcd.com:

"Wikipedia trivia: if you take any article, click on the first link in the article text not in parentheses or italics, and then repeat, you will eventually end up at "Philosophy".""

So to make this musically relevant:

MQ: Type your favourite band's name onto Wikipedia, then begin this exercise, counting how much clicks it takes to get to 'philosophy'.

Kamelot took me 28 clicks...can you beat that? =D

  • R&P: Band Name Deciphering Game!?

I got this game from another forum I visit sometimes...

Below is a list of 20 names, which are 'coded' versions of actual band names. They can either be synonyms, antonyms, or some sort of allusion. For example:

    Visualservant = Audioslave.

    Got it? Good.

    1. Wardgal

    2. Phlounder

    3. Hill Hope

    4. Destinies Caution

    5. Five Month Weak

    6. Life

    7. The Brothers of Surrender

    8. The Hedgehog Elder

    9. AntiJupiter

    10. One Water Outside

    11. Splenic Fever

    12. Womanopeace

    13. Best Friend

    14. The Blade

    15. Curseexplosion

    16. Medieval Ice

    17. Orchestra Z

    18. Good Faith

    19. Reject

    20. Deaf Protector

Of course, not everything is straightforward as my example. There are some curveballs here that takes a lot of creative thinking, and a couple that would need you to interpret what the band name actually means. Anyways, have fun. =]

  • R&P: Sad Week for Metal Fans?

So this week kind of sucks...

First, KK Downing leaves Judas Priest.

    http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/...

Then, BOTH Jeff Loomis and Van Williams leaves Nevermore.

    http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/...

Finally, and just announced today, Roy Khan leaves Kamelot.

    http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/...

So, to reiterate: This week suuuucks.

    Anyways,

MQ: Which of these three departures hits closest to home? (i.e. which one are you most disappointed about)

BQ: Favourite Judas Priest, Nevermore, and Kamelot album/song?

  • To Avoid Overfitting Data, What Should be my Rule of Thumb for the Number of Data Points per Variable?

I am currently conducting some regression analysis to predict sales, and I currently have about 45 data points and have collected a lot of potential predictor variables. However, I am weary that I will overfit the data, so I'm wondering...is there a rule of thumb as to how many variables can be assigned given a number of data points, without danger of over-fitting the data? Thanks!

  • Well I Just Had a Heart Attack...(Not really, but keep reading...)?

    http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/william-shatners...

William Shatner...yes, that's right...WILLIAM SHATNER is planning to release a Heavy Metal concept album, which will be a series of covers (of mostly non-Metal bands, if I may add). Zakk Wylde, Ritchie Blackmore and Mike Indez will provide guest appearances.

    MQ: Thoughts, opinions?

BQ: Favourite song on the album's tracklist?

  • How much space does the 160 GB iPod Classic ACTUALLY have?

I'm considering buying the iPod classic, but I want to know exactly how much memory it has. I'm assuming that, just like the 120 gb classic which only has 111 gb of usable memory, the 160 gb classic doesn't actually have 160 gb.

  • How do I embed an OFFSET function in a SERIES function on MS EXCEL?

Using a formula, I'm trying to create a graph based on data from other sheets. For this, I will need to put an OFFSET function in my range rather than directly stating the cell reference. However, whenevr I try to do this, it gives me an error.

Is there a way to bypass this error and somehow get an offset equation to be put into a series function?

  • How to Dim a variable as a Cell?

On Excel, I'm trying to code a macro that involves selecting a range of cells, in which both the upper limit and the lower limit cells in the range are variables. How would I go about programming this?

    More specifically:

I have a column A and a column B. I wish to select a range of cells from column A and merge them together. That range will be equal to the range of cells in column B that are NOT empty. So, for example:

If cells B1 to B15 aren't empty (and B16 is empty), then my macro will select the cells A1 to A15 (then merge them).

As an added bonus, telling me how to code this activity would be even better =D

  • In Excel, How would you create a For Loop that loops within a cell?

How would you create a For Loop that loops within a specific cell? I want to make a code that loops for each 'word' (separated by spaces) within a cell. So if a cell contains the string 'the dog has fleas', I want my code to loop on 'the', then on 'dog, then on 'has' and finally on 'fleas' before stopping.
