Cheek Kissing Etiquette?
i'm rural western Canada/US (no cheek kissing) but I travel a lot and have friends from other cultures so cheek kissing is pretty common. Trouble is I don't really have a clue how to do it and it's usually awkward.
Example: I have a Jewish friend (big city) who puts her right cheek on left and says, "Mwa". Usually, she hugs, too. I am not sure what I am supposed to do. Do I just let her do it or do I kiss back or WHAT!!??
Another example: I also have an Iranian friend, raised in Spain who is very decisive and grabs me and kisses me on both cheeks. Again, I don't know whether or not I'm supposed to kiss back or make a noise into the air or what. She seems to expect something I'm not doing but I'm too slow for her so she just ends it herself.
Sometimes, I wish the whole social kissing thing had never been invented because I am so awkward. But actually, it's nice.
5 AnswersEtiquette8 years agoHow do I know when there's a new video on a youtube channel I've subscribed to?
I've subscribed to several channels but have no idea how I will get the information that there is a new vid available? Does it come to my mail account or what? If so, maybe I have set up a filter that excludes the update.
2 AnswersYouTube8 years agoWhy do I get pop ups on Yahoo Answers that tell me I have misspellings or too much punctuation?
Like right now it says I have 49 misspellings. Okay, it's changed to 6. This is stupid and very irritating. I am actually a pretty good speller, thanks very much. Ditto, for punctuation.
2 AnswersYahoo Answers9 years agoWhat does kakalot mean?
There is a new Chinese restaurant in town called the Kakalot and I am wondering what that means. I searched the Internet and I appears to be a Japanese word but is used in other languages, too. Not in English, though. I have heard kaka (meaning: bad or disgusting) in English slang so not a great name for a restaurant.
2 AnswersLanguages10 years agoHow to translate this phrase, "unen y separan" into English?
Literally, "they unite and separate", but I am not sure what a Spanish speaker would mean when they say it. My example is: "las “ventanas” que unen y separan el sistema penitenciario con la sociedad". Also: "kisses that unite and separate" is another example.
Thanks!
1 AnswerWords & Wordplay10 years agoWhy does Yahoo Answers sometimes tell me I have a lot of punctuation?
I am no expert in English but I did get straight A marks in my upper level courses for my degree in English literature. As far as I am concerned, my English is just fine and I object to this nasty little pop-up telling me anything different.
Maybe it's a Canadian thing. I use American spelling, by preference, but perhaps I do use more punctuation than the average Yank.
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoHow can I find out if, as he claims, a person taught at a university?
I already asked the university but they won't tell me. He is costing a friend a lot of money based on his supposed knowledge and experience. I think he is a phony but need to know for sure.
