  • Please help identify the gerund!?

In this sentence, identify the gerund and identify the function of the nominal phrase (subject, direct object, subject complement, etc.)

Sentence: By remaining silent, he was actually making the situation worse.

I would guess the gerund is "by remaining silent", but what is its function?

  • Baby Shower invite wording?

Having a baby shower April 7. We want to ask people to bring a book instead of a $5 card and we want to have them write something on the inside cover so that every time we read to baby, we will know who bought the book and there will always be sentimental meaning.

I'm looking for a cute, ORIGINAL poem to include with the invite to request this.

    Any suggestions?

  • Baby shower ideas?!?!?!?

I'm 17 weeks along and trying to help my mom make the baby shower the most fun, original, and successful as possible. I have been to about 3 in the past 6 months and I know that I absolutely DO NOT want to play the same worn-out overdone games that everyone expects at the shower.

Looking for creative ideas for a shower. What worked for yours?

    Our ideas so far:

    Purse scavenger hunt

Diaper raffle (for every 10 diapers a person brings, she will get entered into a drawing for a gift basket... For example, bring 120 pack of diapers, you get 12 entries)

Looking forward to hearing from your creative minds!

  • Fetal heart rate to determine gender?

I heard the heart beat for the first time today! (I'm 17 weeks). It was 155 BPM. I don't really believe in the wives' tale that fetal heart rate can determine the gender accurately. I'm just curious whether it was true for your children?

  • Figure out the angles - PHYSICS HELP!?

A placekicker is about to kick a field goal. The ball is 27.1 m from the goal post. The ball is kicked with an initial velocity of 19.4 m/s at an angle θ above the ground. Between what two angles, θ1 and θ2, will the ball clear the 2.8-m-high crossbar?

I've worked and reworked and the answer is STILL wrong. I got 11.5 and 82.6 for my last answer, which was wrong again. Can somebody help and explain the steps? Thanks a bunch!

  • Physics help - I just don't get it!?

The lob in tennis is an effective tactic when your opponent is near the net. It consists of lofting the ball over his head, forcing him to move quickly away from the net (see the drawing). Suppose that you lob the ball with an initial speed of 14.5 m/s, at an angle of 51.0° above the horizontal. At this instant your opponent is 10.0 m away from the ball. He begins moving away from you 0.30 s later, hoping to reach the ball and hit it back at the moment that it is 2.10 m above its launch point. With what minimum average speed must he move? (Ignore the fact that he can stretch, so that his racket can reach the ball before he does.)

Please show the work so that I can learn how to do it myself. Thanks

  • Basic Physics DESPERATELY need help!?

A speedboat starts from rest and accelerates at +2.01 m/s2 for 7.45 s. At the end of this time, the boat continues for an additional 5.90 s with an acceleration of +0.518 m/s2. Following this, the boat accelerates at −1.49 m/s2 for 8.15 s.

    (a) What is the velocity of the boat at t = 21.5 s?

    (b) What is the total displacement of the boat?

I'm not even sure where to start.

PLEASE HELP ME! And please show steps?

  • Can anybody help with BASIC PHYSICS?!?

A golf ball is dropped from rest from a height of 9.40 m. It hits the pavement, then bounces back up, rising just 5.60 m before falling back down again. A boy then catches the ball when it is 1.10 m above the pavement. Ignoring air resistance, calculate the total amount of time that the ball is in the air, from drop to catch.

I don't really understand how to use the equation s = 1/2at^2 if I do not know time or acceleration.

  • Basic Physics HELP!?!?!?

Two cars cover the same distance in a straight line. Car A covers the distance at a constant velocity. Car B starts from rest and maintains a constant acceleration. Both cars cover a distance of 559 m in 222 s. Assume that they are moving in the +x direction. Determine (a) the constant velocity of car A, (b) the final velocity of car B, and (c) the acceleration of car B.

    Please includee all three parts.
