  • What's the best book for learning Welsh?

I live in England and want to learn Welsh in preparation for moving to Wales next year. There are no classes available in England so I have to resort to learning from a book/audio CD.

Can anyone recommend the best book/CD for this? There are so many on the market i'm not sure which one is best.

I am planning to move to South Wales so the book should ideally be in the South Wales dialect

  • Reading FC tickets...?

I haven't followed football actively for years. I have noticed Reading FC are playing Northampton Town in two days time, that isn't enough time for tickets to arrive at my door if I order them online.

If I turn up an hour before kickoff what is the likelihood I can buy tickets on the door?

  • Where is this Sylvia Plath quote from?

Sylvia Plath wrote; "Let me live, love and say it well in good sentences"

Can anyone tell me which book she wrote this in? I read somewhere that it was in 'The Bell Jar' but I don't recall reading that line in the book. If it is the Bell Jar can someone let me know which chapter it is in?

    Many thanks

  • What does this quote mean?

There is a line from Sylvia Plath's 'The Bell Jar' which I cannot undestand the meaning of, can anyone shed any light?

"I took a deep breath and listened to the old bray of my heart. I am. I am. I am.”

    Thanks

  • What is it like being a bookseller?

I love books and am very interested in a career in bookselling. I am 28 years old and have been a civil servant in various different roles for most of my working life. I have tons of experience helping the public and have worked in an office as well as out and about.

I have no specific qualifications in bookselling at all, is this necessary?

I live in the UK and frequently check on the waterstones website for vacancies but they rarely seem to have any jobs available. Where are the best places to look?

I'm interested to know what the work is like first-hand from a bookseller and what qualities help an applicant get a job in this field

    Thanks!

  • Neighbour issue, what should we do?

My wife and I live three doors down from a wheelchair bound disabled lady. She lives by herself and has a pet dog. Unfortunately she has a habit of taking said dog around the back of the houses to let him exercise and take a crap. She is being responsible about it and cleans up after the dog so there is no issue there however thats where the problem starts...

When the weather is bad (which it often is) her electric wheelchair gets stuck in the mud and she can't get free, when this happens she climbs out of her chair CRAWLS about 50 yards back to her front door, gets into her normal chair then wheels herself over to my front door and asks either myself or my wife to come and dig her chair out of the mud and bring it back to her house. She has done this twice now in the space of a month and it is getting beyond a joke.

Now before anyone judges anyone here the wheelchair she gets stuck is very heavy and not easy to get free, my wife struggles with it due to the significant weight of the chair and we always get covered in mud. Last time I ended up cutting my hand doing it. As far as I can see there is no reason for her to drive her chair all the way down there, especially since she must know there is a very real chance she will get stuck. To add insult to injury whenever we pass her near where we live on the way to the shops she looks the other way and never says hello.

    What should we do??

  • Is there anything wrong with supporting a football team (soccer) that is based miles away from where you live?

If that person chose the team simply because they love the place where the team is based (i.e someone in London starts supporting Liverpool just because they have visited Liverpool and love the city)

    Cheers

  • Do you need to be a scientist to read and understand Darwin's Origin of Species?

I want to read this famous book but I am not a scientist and my scientific education is only basic.

Will I be wasting my time or is it written in a way that a layman could read it and appreciate it?

  • Christians; what do you think of the Beatitudes?

One of my favourite parts of the New Testament is the Beatitudes which Jesus taught during His Sermon on the Mount.

What do you think of them? Are they something you think about alot or not? If so what are your reasons.

I ask because I love the Beatitudes yet I have never heard them taught about or mentioned during a sermon which I think is a great shame as I feel they are some of Christs most important teachings. Are they not considered so by other Christians?

    Thanks in advance

  • Any To Kill a Mockingbird suggestions?

My favourite book is 'To Kill A Mockingbird' by Harper Lee. I would love to get a tattoo to remind me of this book but I am struggling for ideas.

I do have one or two ideas in mind I just wanted to ask other fans of the book in case you could come up with something I haven't considered. I can't seem to find any suitable designs for a mockingbird.

I did want a quote from the book but they are all so lengthy...

    Thanks!

  • Can you tell me about Muay Thai?

I'm interested in Muay Thai kickboxing. I have practiced martial arts in the past to a basic level including Judo and Tae Kwon Do

Can you give me some information about Muay Thai? I've heard that its a very physical martial art with contact sparring, do they learn patterns? Do you have to learn any foreign language? What kit do you need? Are there belt systems? Is it a good martial art for learning self defence?

    Thanks

  • Stay-at-home dads/mums...how can you afford it?

I posted this question earlier and it all went pete tong so i'll start again (sorry)

Both my wife and I work (I work full time and earn slightly more than her) we have a one year old son who isn't in any kind of daycare I have developed an interest in giving up work indefinately and becoming a stay-at-home dad. One of the main issues my wife has with this is that she says we can't afford it.

I imagine we aren't the only people in this situation and that not every stay-at-home dad is rich so how can you guys afford to do it?

Note; I am not any kind of misogynist, the question is about stay at home dads so I just addressed it to fathers, I have no objections to women answering the question and I am fully aware that women sometimes earn more than men.

  • How long to keep it covered?

I did get aftercare instructions from my artist and I understand that the obvious answer is "listen to your artist" and I am. I am just curious as to how long other tattooed folk keep their dressing on their new tattoo?

My artist has told me to keep it covered with a dressing for 72 hours....which seems excessive to me. Its only practical for me to keep it on for 48 due to work committments.

    Only constructive comments please :o)
