  • Is there a retail outlet where I can buy intelliflora for dogs and cats?

I am cat sitting for a friend and the cat takes a probiotic supplement with her meals. Her owner left enough of it to last for the time I am cat sitting but the DOG got hold of the bottle and tore it up and now there is NONE for the cat! I don t have time to wait and order it to be delivered. Do they sell this in any pet stores where I can get a bottle right away? Or is there a human equivalent probiotic powder to use that is available for purchase a a store?

  • Suitable Amp: Safe for electric guitar only, bass only, or both? Roland JC-120UT Fender SQ15 "Squire 15" LA5 Lyon (by Washburn)?

I really want to learn BASS, so I am wondering if any of these will be suitable for a practice amp rather than buying an additional amp with a new bass? We already own these (as well as an electric guitar) but they were given to us second-hand, so we are unfamiliar with the specifics of how to discern which they might be designed for. How to know if the amp is able to handle bass frequency or not?

  • Are there any alternatives to Air Optix Night &Day Aqua (Focus) lenses that can be worn without removing overnight?

The most important thing is that I would like to be able to sleep in the contacts without extreme risk of eye damage, at least one or two nights if not monthly. A disposable weekly or bi-weekly lens would be acceptable provided that I don't have to remove them daily. Is there another brand of extended wear lenses I can ask to try instead of these approved for wearing overnight?

I really wish they had not changed whatever they did when they used to be the Focus brand. =( I loved my Rx for Focus Night & Day extended wear because they were so comfortable and I had much fewer problems with eye irritation without having to handle my lenses so much. But, like many others, apparently, ever since the Focus branding was switched to Air Optix Aqua, I am only able to wear them for a short time before my eyes get irritated and itchy or it feels like there is something in it or like my eyelashes are tangled up in mascara, and then it starts to affect my sinuses with the stuffy or runny nose on whichever side is under the itchy eye and that is the last straw before I give up and remove them.

I prefer the extended wear because I always fall asleep wearing my contacts. I love waking up and still being able to see upon opening my eyes. and I hate the process of putting them on/off - I have to use a half a bottle of saline to rinse them before they don't have debris on them and if I miss or drop it putting it in, I have to start all over again.

  • how does this work : mechanical button switch to control fan speed? what is this kind of switch called?

each button stays "pressed" when pushed, until another button is pushed, which then raises the previous one back up. There are four options : off/high/med/low, so it is the same effect as a potentiometer type of sliding or rotary switch but in specific increments.

Inside the button housing are levers which slide in grooves cut into plastic pieces that slide along each other and have a sort of mountain range like silhouettes, with peaks and valleys in between the levers/buttons - so pushing one button down will align the "valleys" of the pieces of plastic and arrange the peaks in a configuration that separates the button contacts when aligned with the peak position.

Presumably, the slides can be arranged or cut so that each contact is made in turn, or in certain combinations that create the speed controls,, but I am not sure if I understand how the selections are made since the four contacts are separate on one side, and the levers which contact them are all connected on the other, so I am guessing it must function similar to a potentiometer?

  • how long does the pre-pupal stage last for anise swallowtail butterflies?

Have a few fifth instar caterpillars collected off the fennel plants and have one not yet gone to chrysalis even though it has already strung itself up with a girdle. It has been in the J-shape pre-pupal stage for at least a day now and I am wondering if this is normal or if it may have somehow expired at this stage because of being jostled too much or whatever. How long will a caterpillar typically remain in the J'd position before it begins the actual chrysalis formation?

  • Which tasks are the defining factors for putting strain on a GPU or being very demanding?

I am trying to determine the expected price range for multiple monitor GPU for HD video viewing/editing (but non-gaming) and don't know quite where to start in terms of how much card I need when I start building a new PC for myself

These are the primary things I would be doing with it:

1 research on the net (think 50 tabs open at once on a regular basis),

2 HD Home Theater type video viewing

    3 High quality music playback

    4 Professional level audio mixing/recording

    5 hobby level video editing

    6 photoshop

7 dual monitor setup for all the above (e.g. have HD video playing on #1 while multitasking some combo of the above options on #2)

I have to move out of the ancient 478 socket into new territory and that means new everything from the motherboard on up... The one piece of equipment that may make the transition is the LEPA G 850 PSU, but I will have to budget for a new cpu, new mobo, new ram and new GPU, and GPU's have always mystified me a bit since the terminology is mostly aimed at the gaming community and I don't use the PC for gaming (except for stupid flash games on the net... )

GIven that I don't need the ultimate gaming performance, I am wondering how to select the best performance GPU for my needs, which may not be as demanding (I hope, since the top tier cards are running upwards of $400 easily).

I WILL use at least a dual monitor setup, just for the added elbow room of desktop space while doing multiple chores at once, usually working on one screen while the other plays something entertaining as a distraction or company while I work. (This is important since I learned that NVIDIA was better at the dual monitor stuff than ATI as a rule when I built my last machine, but perhaps this is improved nowadays)

Do I need to look at top tier cards with all that crosslinking and SLI madness? I know that the newer generation of tech is exponentially more capable and faster than the P4 generation of stuff, so what price range cards would suit my needs for these things? Can I get away with a budget Pci-e since I don't really worry about high detail rendering of real time gaming type stuff, or would I still be better served with a mid-tier or higher end card for manipulating many layers in Photoshop or editing video?

How high do I have to go in terms of specs to make sure I have enough headroom for the machine to last a while but not being completely out of my depth for what I will ever need?

  • Streaming video lags with mp4 files only?

Why do mp4 format video files ALWAYS have stops and starts every two seconds during streaming? is there a way to fix this by increasing the buffer size somehow? I have no congestion on the network, it happens no mater what site I stream from and other files play smoothly without issue, even large avi's. It is a 5mbps down, 0.65 upstream DSL on an xp machine with a 3.2Ghz p4 and 4 gb physical ram in dual channel configuration with an HD3850 video card, so it seems like it SHOULD be fine. I don't have the problem if the file is mp4 already saved on the HDD, just during streaming online. I am getting quite frustrated, so any help on this would be appreciated. What could be causing the problem?

  • seeking picture or brand name of a particular anti-pulling trainer harness for dog walking?

Many moons ago, in the early 1990's, before the Halti, Easy Walk, Sporn, or other popular control devices were available, I found a non-hyped, non-choking TRAINING harness for my Rhodesian Ridgeback which was so effective that I only needed to use it for a few weeks. This was good, because getting him into it for a walk was somewhat more complicated and time consuming than you would prefer for a daily activity, so the whole idea was that would allow for the behavior to be unlearned and permit use of a standard slip chain.

I have no idea what brand it was, if any, as it was very plainly packaged, and I wouldn't have known that it was for that purpose had the pet store employee not suggested it. I think it may have cost around 16 to 19 dollars at the time, made of regular dark green nylon leash material, had to be adjusted (via the plastic sliding backpack clips that you see on most adjustable collars now) to fit the dog initially, but then released with the black plastic squeeze clips so that you didn't need to adjust it again after that. Even with the clips though, it required some getting down on one knee to get it wrapped around his torso or step a paw into it.

The main feature which made it effective, though, is one that I have seen approximated (to lesser effect), but not duplicated with some of the newer brands that loop under the front "armpits" of the dog and tighten up uncomfortably when they pull. These newer ones still allow the dog to pull forward, but just distributes the force across the chest or under their forelegs so as not to choke the animal, but an animal that is not particularly caring about discomfort is not necessarily discouraged from pulling.

By contrast, the one I had actually made it IMPOSSIBLE to continue pulling forward because of the way the strap of the harness/halter tightened up if the dog lunged, as these straps came from under the armpits and wrapped back over the front of the leg just below the shoulder and "locked" due to the tension/pulley which essentially did not allow the dog to extend the foreleg forward for the next step until the tension was released. The SPORN design is the closest to this that I have found, but it is not quite as effective because it doesn't physically restrain with physics, but supposedly is uncomfortable when it tightens similarly.

The one I seek doesn't have a front chest band to pull on, and did not attach in the front of the dog, The "harness" part was only to facilitate the loops of nylon around the legs, and was not meant to be used as a permanent solution like many of the ones today. The best thing about it was that the dog, no matter how strong or determined or impervious to pain, HAD to learn to release the tension himself or he could not move forward, even though he wasn't made particularly uncomfortable by the mechanism. It was simply necessary to walk properly in order to move at all.

I would very much like another of these, since I discarded the other after no longer needing it. If I can't buy one, I would make one myself if could remember how the design went, so I am seeking either an actual available example or even a picture or drawing of the way it was attached and designed to leverage the dog against itself if it pulled. It worked rather too well, as I didn't think to hold onto it for another twenty years til I got another dog, or I would have held onto it.

  • Can cloning gel cubes be used as a germination medium for seeds?

I have some artichoke seeds which are a real PITA to get to germinate successfully and I only have a few this time so I want to make certain I don't leave too much to chance. I have some coconut husk, or some rockwool, as well as some cloning gel cubes for taking cuttings and I would like to use the gel if that would work simply because I can see through the clear gel to keep an eye on what is happening with the seeds and maybe it will be less likely to get attacked by fungus gnats or root rot, and the opaque mediums I tend to get nervous because I have no idea if they are starting or not. I also started them in a paper towel first and one of them looks promising already, so I would like to place THAT one in the most likely road to success.

I bought the prepacked gel cubes from OSH 6 for $20 and they are pretty large cubes that I wouldn't have to transplant from too early, so I thought that would be ideal. Any thoughts?

  • Pitbull has pneumonia, on clavomox but eye mucous and vomits yellow bile?

I am wondering what other steps can be taken or alternate possible diagnoses and whether we should just keep with the meds or take him to another vet again as we are simply out of money and can't afford a slew of expensive tests and scans after already costing $800 at this point..

So our almost 2 year old pitbull (mix? - mystery stray puppy looks like staffordshire but smaller and not as bulky) isn't feeling well today. He was happy enough to lick my plate of the gravy and mashed potatoes that were stuck to the plate but that were not even enough left to make a spoonful when I finished lunch, and was REALLY active on Sunday romping around with Mom's new dog in the yard on Easter. He has always been a little "barfy" and I assumed it was just a sensitivity to food changes so we try to keep it steady for him with not much variation.

About three weeks back, we think someone had gotten into the yard and maybe had to pull him off by his collar since he came in from the yard without it one night and coughing. He had several more bouts of chuffing that night before we took him to the emergency vet when he coughed up a little blood, The vet did some xrays and determined that he did have some fluid in the lungs, so we got some meds that he has been on 2x daily for the last 3 weeks or so, and no more blood after that first night, and the cough went away almost immediately. We aren't sure what happened since we never found the collar, and the vet said that trauma was the most likely cause since his pneumonia wasn't bad enough that he should have had blood since that usually happens in more advanced cases. The vet only gave us two weeks worth of meds at first, but after the last day, he coughed once or twice that weekend and we brought him back for them to tell us it usually takes 6-8 weeks anyway! So after about 3 days off the meds we got some him more but the cough has started to creep back recently from time to time - not a lot, just one or two chuffs over a few nights time.

He isn't off his chow or anything, and is generally in good enough spirits to run in circles chasing his tail as is his habit to do, and he is a pretty tough pup despite his paper stomach. When we found him, he had Parvo, but got over it in about 3 days time and never quit eating or drinking on his own and actually put on 5 pounds that week and only threw up a little bit on one day. Since then he had surgery to remove some extra teeth that didn't come out on their own and had to be de-wormed a couple times from the fleas, but his initial blood tests all came back fine and he's had a lovely time of play hard days and sleep hard nights until this recent scare.

This afternoon he clearly doesn't feel too good, but he isn't hiding under the bed or anything. I am concerned though since his eyes were boogery again this afternoon after wiping them this morning even though he is on the antibiotics every 12 hours already, and after licking the gravy traces off the plate yarfed up a nice handful of yellow slime which I assume is mostly mucus and bile, and I am guessing it was the excess snot he's been swallowing that made him nauseous, He hasn't brought anything else up, though. Ate well early in the morning or late last night and no diarrhea that I have seen (large normal poop on Sunday, didn't see yesterday though). He is resting next to me now and isn't getting worse or vomiting or coughing any more, but he isn't as chipper as he has been, but that could easily be the nausea dampening the spirits as opposed to genuine listlessness. He was running like a maniac on Sunday having a ball, though.

Should I be worried or is this just par for the course of getting through the pneumonia? What else can we do for him? I am beyond broke and getting frustrated with worry.

But SOMETHING is going on since he has been getting some mucous from the eyes a little - what we call "eye boogers" and that doesn't seem to be getting better, but worse. I's not runny like watery, but more rubbery and collecting into a small ball in the corner of the eye. I have noticed myself also feeling pretty stuffy and snotty too this weekend so I am wondering if it might be something environmental in the air or what?

Any ideas would be appreciated. I am a little at a loss as to what to do next. Do we take him in again or wait a little more to see if it improves? The eye thing seems to be a sign of something but I have no idea what.

  • Material/quality/sturdiness of 17 year old OE exterior door handle vs new Aftermarket on Honda civic ?

I've got a 95 honda civic and the exterior driver side door handle broke in half once some years back (I ripped it off in a superhuman fit of rage much to my own surprise) and I bought another aftermarket replacement that I put in myself. Although it kinda feels a little soon for the replacement to be about to do the same, yet it is already cracking and bending at the stress points and is soon to be DOA any moment now. Now I am wondering, considering the price difference: should I get an OEM used handle that is a bit scratched up but made of whatever they made them with from the factory for 20 bucks or a new aftermarket (Dorman/Help or other brand) handle for 10?

It seemed like the original stock handle was of sturdier stuff than the plastic replacement I used which is now disintegrating, but it could be that at this point any handle that is 17 years old is going to be a bit more brittle and I might be better off anyway with a lesser quality new one at half the cost in terms of life expectancy anyway.

So bearing in mind that the original used part is bound to be 17 years old already (but HAS lasted that long whereas the replacement made it about maybe half as long as the original under much less daily usage and no hulk rage attack) which do you think is likely to last longer? Anyone know what the material differences might be if any?

  • HELP to disable internal (webcam) mic on Sony Laptop !!?

On the cpcef34fx/pcg71511l sony vaio laptop, there is clearly an internal microphone picking up sound that I am unable to turn off. On the sound control panel, under recording devices, I can disable the mic but it is associated with the front panel mic Jack, which I don't want to disable since I DO want to use an external mic instead. I think that there are two mics picking up sound when there is only the one plugged in to that jack also. I am ready to pull the physical connection, but I don't know where the heck it is. ANY HELP APPRECIATED ON THIS AS iTS PISSING ME OFF MIGHTILY.

  • who is this stand up comedian I saw on Comic Relief marathon fund raiser?

A few years ago on the annual Comic Relief special hosted by Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg, I saw a comedian that I had not been familiar with who was quite funny and I would like to know who he is. These are the things I can remember about him:

    Humor type:

He had a specific delivery style of one-line type jokes like Stephen Wright, sometimes puns, often delivered in a steady pace that you really had to pay attention or you might miss it before he was on to the next one. He didn't wait for the audience to catch up, if you missed it and tried to back it up to think about what he just said, which was often so unexpected that you didn't immediately register the joke, but then if you thought about it too long you'd already missed the next one about something else... , much of the humor was just like a regular sentence that would start off normally and then finish in a totally different context that was wholly unexpected.and sometimes bizzare. And he had an eccentric sort of delivery, or maybe was rather accenting an odd look - in the way of Eddie Izzard but not that extreme. I think he also had an accent British or Aussie? (or possibly even Irish or Scottish but I don't think so) or else something about the rhythm of the speech meant I had to listen carefully or I would miss something.

    Appearance & Style:

He was not noticeably older, or a young college kid type, but an average adult somewhere in his 30's or 40's I would guess. Caucasion/white or at least not of any overtly noticeable ethnic flavor. There is absolutely nothing strikingly odd about him physically that would be easy to pick out like extreme height or weight, He may have been on the heavier side, not skinny or lanky, but solid looking with broadish shoulders, or he was wearing a very square shaped jacket of a single color - he didn't have any wacky outrageousness in costume or hair but his look was something that I seem to remember as deliberately odd like a caricature of someone a little bit out of step with society but unaware of it himself. Odd maybe, but not noisy- his look was "neat" and tidy. The color may have been unusually bright like red or iridescent but it was solid and not mixed with some other clashy thing, maybe because he was otherwise unremarkable visually which is why I can't really be sure of what he looks like. If he were wearing a tshirt and jeans I'd never have been able to pick him out of a crowd, so there was something deliberately characterized to him, like a nice suit in fit and cut but not of a subtle color. He was either wearing an odd hat or had a weird bowl type haircut like Moe from the three stooges was bald or very light haired or something that made me focus on his head. Round face, not pointy or long. Or the person that looked like this was the one who performed directly after the guy I am thinking of... It was a long while back to try and describe someone I don't know that I only saw once.

That is all I can remember, but he was well known enough to be performing on that huge fundraiser and it was sometime in between 2004 -2010. And for some reason Aspen comes to mind or maybe Australia.

Anybody know who this might have been? I've never seen him since, so I think he might be more popular in the UK than the US or something. I'd be very grateful to know who he is.

(Now that I write this, I am wondering if it was Eddie Izzard after all or if I am just mashing him together with the faceless person I don't know. If there is no one else that might fit the bill it could be him but I don't think it was...)

  • Any place I can turn in old bmw auto battery and get back core charge without receipts?

My boo just got a new battery for his e36 98 BMW 328, but didn't have the old one to take in and swap - We now have the old battery (which may not be actually dead, since it turned out to be a bad alternator instead) and another from his 92 325 as well and he doesn't know what he did with the receipt from the new one. Is there anyplace that will take the old batteries and refund the core charge without the purchase of a new one? (I live in Los Angeles)? It would really help to get even a few bucks back right now since the alternator was kind of a pricey repair.
