  • The PS3 and the SDTV: Can they truly coexist?

Many of us have gone into video game stores to be told that PS3 games do not work on Standard Definition (NTSC; 480i) Televisions. I've gone online before and seen that almost everyone says this is bogus and games will work fine on any TV one might have. They even go as far as saying that store clerks are stupid and do not know "****." I come before you today to argue for the store clerks.

My brother, for his birthday, got two games today. Modern Warfare 3, and Starhawk. And damn right, these games don't work on our SDTV. He's distraught. I want to know what everyone means by the SDTVs-should-work-fine argument. Coz they sure as hell do not, for just anything.

I've got a Sony Wega TV plugged into. One of those models from the mid-2000s. Does anyone know of anything I can do to get these games to work? Save of course, buying a new TV.

    Many thanks.

  • Are all ps3 games compatible with standard NTSC TVs?

I bought Call of Duty World at War recently. Have not been able to play it though because when it loads, the display begins to roll. Im running our ps3 through a Sony Wega TV (the ones with the 4:3, standard NTSC display). What I'm now thinking is that perhaps the game just isn't compatible with this kind of TV (the HD support on the back cover of the CoD doesn't include NTSC, either.)

  • Harry Potter - Which events are canonical?

I was scrolling through the Harry Potter Wiki page, and found that certain details found exclusively in movies were taken to be true, though sometimes contradicting what was depicted in the books. One example (of a multitude) is that bit in the 6th movie where bellatrix lestrange was at Hogwarts to egg dumbledore's assassination on. She wasn't there at all in the book (nor was there any mention of her "version" of the reductor curse).

My question is - should the book universe and the movie universe comprise of two different canons, should unique movie details be thought of as false, or should book details that were 'adjusted' for movies be changed as well to accompany movie depiction? It's very subjective, of course, but i'd like to get opinions. ;)

  • I have this recurring theme in my dreams where I'm infuriated at someone but can't hit them... - meanings?

Well, the situations in these dreams are always different. Sometimes I'm really mad at someone I don't know, other times its a close friend. What would happen though remains constant - I either swing my arms vehemently at the person, kick my legs, throw my entire body at them, but just as I get close it's like I'm in water and none of my limbs can move fast enough to make contact with the target. Really frustrating.

I've had them for such a long time already (years, even), without paying them any attention. I'd always just think, "well damn that was annoying." But I was curious as to what they meant, just now. I mean, they can't keep happening without meaning anything, right?

I'm not at all aggressive with people in real life, by the way, so it can't be a reflection of character, can it? Any other interpretations would be cool, thanks :)

  • Will a Casio keyboard run fine without the standard AD-5 adapter?

I have a Casio CTK-3000, but I've lost its bloody power chord. I've looked in shops and stuff and not even the place I bought the keyboard from carries an AD-5. So my main question is- will it be ok for the keyboard if I were to run it using a different DC 9V adapter instead of a casio one.

I'm asking because in the manual it says I can't. But I don't know if that's just one of their marketing tricks.

  • Is it possible to re-condition an older laptop battery?

My mom's passed on an older acer laptop to me. It still runs as well as it ever did, but its battery has just been screwed cross-eyed. You'd be lucky to get a good hour out of it. If say, I make the effort to always drain the battery before charging, would it eventually be restored to at least giving me a 5 hour battery life?

  • What is Hitler to the Jewish faith?

I'm a Christian, and I'm quite fascinated with the concept of the antichrist. Apparently the "Armilus" is the Jewish equivalent. Do you believe that hitler was in fact the said being? And since Jews don't believe the messiah has come yet, does the Armilus come before or after the messiah?

I don't mean to challenge anyone's beliefs im merely interested by your faith, thank you :)

  • How long does it take for a species to evolve?

Okay lets say one million humans move to a planet where the atmosphere doesn't have enough oxygen to be breathable (they'd need oxygen masks or something to survive). Since it was taught to us like in first grade or something, could one think that the day would come that the humans on this planet would adapt to their surroundings and "evolve" into new humans that would be able to breathe this atmosphere? If so, how long would it take?

  • Is mainstream music composed entirely of witchcraft?

Is it? I was watching a few videos on youtube about how many artists admit to having to become witches before any talk of a record deal was given. There was proof of a recording device they called "the master" that they used as some kind of magic relic when recording, and the brought the device into some room where the record execs (13 of them) would "offer it to satan" and that ****. It was presented that these people believed they could become successful and famous only through the said procedures.

Is anyone out there that can enlighten me on this? I wanna separate the truth from the religious hippie bullshit. (Im Catholic, btw)

  • Industrial rock supergroup?

Okay, so lets picture Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Marilyn Manson, Richard Patrick (Filter), and maybe... Maynard James Keenan (Tool) all in one group.

Would people dig it? Would YOU buy it?

I'd like to see that happen, actually... Even just for one album.

  • Do you think God is behind science?

So many people stop believing in God because of science. I personally think that God made the big bang happen. He also let us evolve from less great beings (apes, etc..) to be more experienced as humans.

    What do you think?

  • Are you billed for roaming when using Twitter from other countries?

I live in the Philippines, and I just started using this twitter SMS-ing thing a few hours ago. I dont want to go too trigger-happy yet seeing as I don't know what exactly it will cost me. It says standard rates apply, but thats for USA. What I'm trying to say is, will being in a country outside of the US cost me more?

  • To what extent do strings affect the sound of the entire guitar?

Im a bass player, and recently I've been looking to replace my pick-ups. I see they aren't as cheap as I would like, so now im turning to the replacement of strings, as opposed to pick-ups. I know the result wont be as fantastic, but my strings now aren't anything compared to the likes of Rotosound or Ernie Ball. If, say, I do change my strings to either of the mentioned, would the difference be noticeably good enough? Which brand then would you recommend? Any help would be awesome thanks.
