  • Need tips for making home made bread.?

I've been making home made bread for a little while now. I've always noticed that my loaves are very dense. I let the dough rise twice.. I always allow it to double. What can I do to make the bread more airy and moist. Instead of crumbly and dense?

    Thanks!

  • I have cultured buttermilk that's very thick, can I water it down with regular milk?

I bought some farm fresh, cultured buttermilk. It's made from whole milk instead of skim so it's very thick, almost like yogurt. I would like to make pancakes with it but I'm afraid it will make the batter too thick. It is OK to water it down with regular milk??

    Thanks for your help!

  • Does anyone have the Better Home & Garden Gingersnap Cookie recipe?

My aunt made these a while back and I asked her for the recipe.. She said it was in the Better Home & Gardens cookbook. I thought I had this cookbook but it must have gotten lost when I moved. Does anyone have a copy of this recipe?

    Thanks!

  • Would I save money buying a turkey AFTER Thanksgiving?

I'm having my Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday so I was wondering if it would be cheaper for me to buy a turkey on the Friday after Thanksgiving? Will they be on sale after Thanksgiving? I know some stores reduce the price of their turkeys right before thanksgiving to get you to buy the rest of your dinner stuff there so I wasn't sure if the prices would go back up after turkey-day or if they'd go down even more.

  • How can I tell if a wall I'd like to remove is load bearing before breaking into it?

I am considering opening up my kitchen and I would like to know if the wall between my kitchen and living room is load bearing. Here is some info about my wall:

It does not have support beams underneath it in the basement.

It does run right underneath the point in the roof.

It runs half the length of the house but I'll only be removing about 2/3rds of the wall.

Any help on this would be appreciate. Please be specific with your answers. Thanks!

  • I am seasoning an old cast iron dutch oven but when I wipe the oil into it the paper towel comes out black...?

Is this normal? I'm worried about cooking in it and having my food come out black. All of the information I've searched for doesn't mention anything about a black residue, though I know the pan itself is supposed to turn black. I just need a little reassurance that this pot is still usable.

If this is not normal what is the best way to remove this residue? I've scoured the oven with HOT water and used steel wool to remove some rust already.

    Thanks :)
