  • how do you handle a large layoff at work?

We just had a large layoff today, losing about 15 people (out of 35), including several friends. Luckily, I'm one of the survivors. In the coming days at work, how should I handle the situation, especially since it's the white elephant in the room? Do I just ignore it and move on?

  • the weather report is bad?

says rain all night and all day tomorrow. Which begs the question, if they cannot continue in Philly, do they play the rest of the game in Tampa on Wednesday? I know this happens occassionally in the regular season, but is there any precedence for it in the postseason?

  • Going to Yankee Stadium for the first (and only) time

    Couple questions

    1) We'll get tickets on Stub-Hub, most likely upper deck in the infield. Is there any reason we shouldn't sit there? Do you have any suggestions on where to sit. Cost isn't a big issue, but we don't want to spend a ton for no reason

    2) what are some places in and around the ballpark we can visit before or after the game? Also, when is Monument Park open

    3) what's the best way to get there using public transportation? Most likely we'll be staying somewhere in lower manhattan

    Thanks in advance

  • trying to sift thru all the misinformation?

There's a ton of misinformation and/or conflicting information about health out there. In the interest of trying to clear things up, here's a few questions

    1) should you nap or not?

    2) what's better (long term): jogging or walking?

    3) is wine or beer ok (in moderation) or not?

  • going to a first communion?

My niece is having her first communion in September. As someone who is not Christian, and has never been to one before, I have a couple questions

    1) what's the religious significance, so I understand what's going with the rituals

    2) I would think this considered a formal occasion, so I'd have to dress up

    3) are gifts allowed/encouraged/expected? If so, what type of gift is usually given?

  • Minor League transactions?

In all the years following baseball, I've come to realize my understanding of how minor transactions works is lacking. So, here goes:

    1) I know optioning a player is when a guy on the 40 man is sent down. But I sometimes hear of a player who is "out of options" and thus can't be sent down (or kept on the 40-man)? How many options are there

    2) As far as callups are concerned, I think players must be on the 40-man to be called up to the Majors, correct?

    3) what does the phrase "designated for assignment" and how is that different from being outrighted or optioned?

    Thanks in advance

  • would you attend a church/temple event for a faith other than your own?

Although I am an athiest, recently I had to attend an event at our local Hindu temple - an idol blessing. My family is very religious and wanted me to be there. They know and respect my athiesm, but asked that I come anyway. So I did, and participated where I was requested to. Mostly I did it because, well, family is FAR more important than religion in my view. How would you handle a similar situation?

  • '06 Civic - odd sound?

I have a 2006 Civic with 30K miles on it - so I'm getting my brakes done this week. For the last several days I've noticed this odd metallic sound, which occurs sporadically at highway speeds (for maybe 10-15 seconds at a time) and is often caused when I hit a bump. It sounds like like two metal pieces rubbing together. it's only in the drivers side front area. I'm thinking either my brake pad is totally worn and it's the rotor, maybe something is loose, or else it's the suspension. It's not affecting the handling or anything. Any ideas?

  • Are there any teams that DON'T have a deserving all-star this year?

In most years, there is always a team or two that does not have one player who should be an all-star, but because of the "every team gets a player" rule, some really bad players are on the team. This year, it seems, though that every team has at least one player worth serious consideration, even the Royals with Gil Meche or the Nationals with Dmitri Young. Are there any teams with no one worthy of at least consideration?
