  • What's the name of this novel?

I think it was by Danielle Steel or Jackie Collins or someone along those lines. It was set in a hospital and I think the main characters were three trainee nurses or trainee doctors who were all friends. One of the them was failing so did sexual favours to get the right grades. Then one of them was having an affair with a doctor (maybe the same one?) and he was using her but she thought he loved her. Then she got pregnant and I think he killed her (or tried to) and the other two figured it out and put him in prison.

  • Names of these children's books.?

Can anyone name these books from the following (very undetailed) descriptions? They're books for older children rather than younger ones. I read them when I was younger but don't know what they're called.

1 a girl lives in (london?) with her mother. Is possible looking for her father. She goes sledging one day and crashes into a tree. In one bit her mum is making pastry and in another she makes her bread and butter pudding.

2 Something about a girl in a poor area who has a red jewel.

3 The school canteen has a new cook who makes really delicious food and the children like it so much its all they want to eat but it turns out the food is made from insects or is turning them into insects or something.

  • Where to fleas come from if not from pets?

We've just come home from holiday and found fleas in the flat. We've been living there a month with no problems and the carpets were professionally cleaned before we came in. I had picked up our post on the way in and had a whole pile in my arms. We sat on the floor to sort through it and suddenly start finding all these fleas on us, which we hadn't seen previously in the day My theory is that they somehow came from the mail in the postbox and when I walk on the area of carpet where I placed the post that's where they most jumped on my feet. Also, before I realised it might be the mail, I put a pile of junk leaflets on the kitchen floor and they were situated in that area too. We hoovered repeatedly last night. This morning and last night we've found a few more but not as many. It is possible there's somehow an infestation in the postbox? I don't really know, I can't find much online about fleas which don't come from pets though I've read of them being in the outside walls sometimes.

Also, does anyone know where in the UK I can buy flea spray from the home (from shops rather than online) and what works?

    Thanks

  • Fleas in letterbox/mailbox?

Is anyone aware / familiar with fleas developing in their letterbox? We've just come home from holiday and I carried a bunch of post and leaflets up the stairs in my arms and dropped it on the floor. We sat on the floor to sort through it and suddenly start finding all these fleas on us and crawling on our feet from the carpet. I can't see if they're in the mail. There's the possibility we've brought these back from holiday however we haven't noticed these in the last couple of days at our hotel and suddenly they've very noticeable!

  • Stop harassing me about alcoholic mother?

I walked away from my alcoholic mother years ago. To me, she is dead, and I no longer want to talk about it, I don't want to try and resolve things, I don't want to deal with the ups and downs of 'oh hey I'm not drinking anymore' 'oh hey, she's not drinking any more' then a week later, guess who is calling up drunk? Why can't distant family members who never have any regular contact with me understand that and seem to feel the need to take it in turns to crop up in my life and try and get me talking to her. They don't understand, how do I just tell them to leave me alone. I just had a message from someone saying "it was good to see her recently" and to give them a call, presumably to talk about her because why else is that the first thing out of their mouth. I don't care, I don't want to know. You're not calling me to see how I am, you're calling to tell me about my mother. NOT INTERESTED.

  • Countersignature on passport form?

In a replacement form for damaged UK passport the top of my countersignatory's signature overlaps with the orange border box but doesn't go outside it. Do you think this will be refused?

  • Contraceptive pill 7 day rule?

Does the 7 day rule apply even if you miss quite a lot of pills, e.g. six in a row? i.e. after taking the pill properly for the next seven days are you then protected, or are you not because you missed so many.

  • What children's book is this?

I used to have a compliation of children's stories when I was younger (probably for older children). I remember there was a story called The Yellow Ribbon about a girl who wore this ribbon round her neck all the time and she met a boy who kept asking her why she wore it. When she grew older he asked her again, so she let him take it off and her head fell off.

I also remember a story about a family on a picnic and someone gets bitten by a snake so I think the boy sucks the poison out, but it ends with his family drowning in a car (I think he kills them?). Also a story about a little boy who fell down a well called something like 'Tiki tiki tembo no sa rembo, chara .... something else. I think the moral was that because his name was so long, it took people so long to say it that they didn't say him from the well in time and that's why chinese people have short names now (yeah, I know). There was also one about a dinner lady in a school (I think she was black) I can't remember much else. Oh, and one about boy who stopped brushing his teeth and lots of roots and things started growing out of them.

    Any ideas?

  • Anyone remember this from The Little Mermaid?

In Disney's The Little Mermaid, wasn't there a part where Ariel goes to see someone for help. I don't think it was Ursula, it was a kind of black floating head with long seaweed like hair and she lived in a cave. Does anyone remember?
