How lucky are we to be real footy supporters?
We have and had some real characters who have played VFL/AFL footy over the decades.
Plenty have got into real strife but most have done in the quest of having a great time.
Fev likes a grog and a punt. "Such is Life" didn't mind a mind altering tonic.A few Doggie boys played up on an aeroplane a few years ago and borrowed a wheelchair to add to the hi jinx.
"Pants" Millane and his erstwhile mate stole a bus for a little trip.
All innocent fun and for no monetary gain.
On the other side of the coin let's look at cricketers.
Seems all they do is seek the big buck.
Betting on predetermined results.
Bowling no-balls to order.
Tips to Bookmakers.
Essentially a pack of cheats who will do anything for a quid.
Am I biased or are footballers the greatest blokes in sport
6 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoAn AFL Footy side is very much like a beehive. We have the Queen(King in AFL perhaps),drones and workers.?
In your side who are the people that form the structure of your side?
Who is the Queen, who are the drones and who are the workers?
5 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoIs Channel 7 in danger of ending up in the Guiness Book of Records?
Two games LIVE in 8 days.
Surely they have re-runs of a gardening show or "My name is Earl" or similar garbage that they insist rates better than live Footy.
8 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoIs it really in Collingwood's best interests to knock over the Cats and stay on top of the ladder?
The last three flags the Pies have won have been from 2nd spot at the end of the home and away season.1953,1958 and 1990.
If history counts for anything they may be better placed to be beaten in Saturdays game and end the season in second spot.
11 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoBulldogs or Dockers for 4th. What an interesting scenario.?
4 games each to play.Level on games.
Bulldogs have 3 winnable and one toughy against Geelong.
Dockers have 4 winnable.
Who will tough it out for the precious 4th spot??
11 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoAre all Geelong supporters bad losers?
My sister is a very keen Carlton supporter.
Her husband came home from the Monday match after the Baggers had flogged the ******* and refused to speak to her or anyone else for that matter.
He wouldn't eat his tea and went to bed in a big huff.
On Tuesday night he came home after work with a bunch of servo flowers and tried to square up.
My sister forgave him but the fact remains that he is a bad tempered Catter and cannot accept defeat.
Let's face the fact that Geelong have won 2 flags in 3 years and won 50 games from 54 at one stage.
Shouldn't one learn to be graceful in defeat after a run like that?
12 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoWho or what influenced you to support your team?
Do you follow the Pies because your Dad did?
Do you follow the Bombers because your Mum did?
Was it your boy friend or girl friend that influenced you?
Is it because you live where you side is based?
Is it because your peers follow the side?
Is it something quite weird?
Personally I follow the Mighty Bulldogs because I grew up in the area.
I don't live there anymore but I still love them as much as ever did.
8 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoThe mention of Norm Smith in an earlier made me hanker for players with old fashioned names.?
For instance Who was the last player named Fred to play AFL/VFL footy?
We have a Harry which is great and a few Toms but who was the last to be called Dick(not Richard)
What about a Sid,Clyde,Bert or Norm?
No need to Barney Google (there's another) just try to do it from memory.
4 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoI am looking for a ballpark figure for what it would cost to go totally solar.?
We live in Central Victoria(Aust) up in the hills. Our house is approx 100 square metres.
We get plenty of sun.
Our monthly electricity bill is approx A$100.
What sort of concessions could we expect from the State and Federal Governments?
I have looked at many websites but they have only succeeded in confusing me.
Ballpark is what I am after to help me make a decision as to whether we pursue this or not.
Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhy do those dogs at Channel 7 bid for the right to televise footy when they refuse to show it live on Friday?
I will be making a point of not watching ANYTHING on that crap channel.
As for Better Homes and Gardens I hope the snails eat all the plants.
That's what happens when the AFL lets rich so and sos like Stokes TAKE the people's game.
I hope they rate nil for the whole year. A pox on them.
12 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoWho of the 2009 first round draft picks will be the first to receive a Brownlow vote this year?
I'm tipping Christian Howard of the Doggies.
5 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoThe good news story of the year was the separation of twins Trishna and Krishna.?
Are there two players at your club who are so close that they may have originally been conjoined twins?
eg. They read each others mind. One knows where the other is without even seeing them.
1 AnswerAustralian Rules1 decade agoWe have a Kris Kringle at work next week and I have drawn a Richmond supporter.?
I think a stuffed Tiger would be appropriate (given that Richmond are just about stuffed) but does anyone have a better suggestion?
1 AnswerOther - Football1 decade agoAre we sickos talking about, writing about, thinking about Footy at this time of year?
All sorts of sports are going on this time of the year. An Aussie won the surfing somewhere. Sydney to Hobart is in the offing,Soccer is on the agenda,Cricket is looming on Boxing Day at the 'G but I would swap it all for just one live game at Doglands next Saturday. Doggies V Anyone would suit me fine.
1 AnswerOther - Football1 decade agoIt's draft time and it's topical.?
Who is the player that your side didn't draft and you are forever thankful that they didn't?
We have picked up some shockers in our time but I am ever thankful that Fevola went to Brissie.
7 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoCollingwood are desperate to get Luke Ball. Can a side with only one ball expect to win the flag?
If only Luke had a twin who was available.A brother that is.
7 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoGood news story for AFL footballer.Who will it be?
I have a feeling an AFL footballer will make headlines out of season for doing someting truly admirable that has nothing to do with footy.
Who will it be and what will he do?
eg.
Fev pulls drowning girl from Qld. surf.
Aker wins Lotto and donates it all to charity.
Chris Judd quits Carlton and Becs and joins priesthood.
Cling shaves head to make merkin for Bert Newton
6 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoAre there any Fremantle supporters out there?
There seems to be very few comments in this forum from Freo supporters.
You don't seem to be as passionate as the other supporters.
Do any of you think you are a real chance to win a flag in the next few years?
7 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoDo Brisbane supporters out there have an issue with the Gold Coast side joining the AFL?
Given that it may have serious repercussions with supporter base and member numbers I would think that it would be of major concern.
6 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoDo Collingwood supporters accept mediocrity too easily?
If my side had what has been laid on the Magpie table for the last 50 years I would expect a lot more than ONE premiership.
The AFL give them everything and the media give them unlimited publicity yet they fail when crunch time arrives.
