  • Classroom seating issue... Experienced teacher is stumped!!?

I'm moving into a room that is just shy of 1300 square feet. No shelves, countertops, closets, storage, just 4 walls. Want to look at alternative seating ideas. BTW, so far 29 big 6th graders on my roster for next year. Regular desks and tables are out of the question as they take up too much space. Any creative suggestions would be marvy!!

  • Big Ben's condition...?

Has anyone heard if he's been cleared or not for next week? I know that he has to pass some physicals, but don't know how long they wait before doing so. I would guess it would have to be soon since they'll need to practice this week.

  • Huckabee had Chuck Norris...?

Which action heroes should McCain, Obama, and Clinton hire to "cover their backs"?

    Obama - The Rock!

McCain - Ernest Borgnine & Tim Conway, aka Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy

    Clinton - Xena & Gabrielle??

  • Is James Carville and the Clinton campaign in denial??

In Anderson Cooper's interview this evening, James Carville refused to apologize for his "Judas" comment against Bill Richardson.

Cooper then asks if Richardson's endorsement was really all that important to begin with.

Doth Carville protest too much?? If Richardson's endorsement weren't imporant to the Obama campaign, why was/is he and the Clintons so bitter about it?

    http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/03/21/clinton-a...

As far as 'owing' the Clintons for his previous appointments, Richardson states, "I am very loyal to the Clintons. I served under President Clinton. But I served well. And I served the country well. And he gave me that opportunity... But you know ... it shouldn't just be Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton," he said.

Okay, Hillary. Is the Richardson endorsement important or not? Make up your mind already. (Do we really want someone this ambiguous with their finger on the big red button??)

  • Anderson Cooper's blog... Media vs. Public??

Thanks to Jeremy S. for bringing this article to light. Written by a CNN contributor, please read thoroughly before responding. Trying to get a real dialogue going rather than a bashing against any particular party or candidate.

    http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/21/the-full-sto...

    Here's the question:

**Which is more dangerous, the media spindoctors and their carefully constructed sound bites or the viewing public that takes their reporting as fact?? Does someone "owe" the public an apology for a distortion of the truth? I know this is very idealistic but curious to hear what others think.**

Even if you disagree, I think it's worth reading the article just to get a different perspective on the whole Rev. Wright issue.

  • Is anyone as ticked as I am????

Just reading the answers regarding the breach of Obama's passport information... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ah17g...

This story has just broken and people are already presumptuous! Did some of you NOT read the article? If so, do you need help with facts and details?

    Responses like:

"If he has something to hide, he shouldn't be running for office."

Go back and re-read the article and get your facts straight.

    Here's my question:

Should YA participants be required to take a basic reading, writing, and spelling test in order to participate?

  • Silly Billy?

I've had this vision in my mind throughout the primaries:

Bill wakes up in the morning, stretches, and chuckles to himself, "Hmmm... What can I do today to really screw things up for 'ol Hillary?"

I don't think he is a stupid man. Sometimes I think that he does things on purpose to annoy his wife, like most husbands do, lol.

    It goes something like this:

Hillary: Bill, honey? Does this pantsuit make me look fat?

Bill: Nah, darlin. Your fat makes you look fat.

(Hillary stomps off, begins to 'fake cry'.)

Bill: Aww, Mon. You know I didn't mean that.

(Begins to chuckle again under his breath.)

Hillary: You bast***! (Edited for your protection.) I told you that wasn't funny anymore!!

Bill: You know I still love ya'. (Gives her a big slap on the butt.)

In the end, I don't really think he cares if she wins or not. He's retired.

    What do you think??

  • Help an old lady with a new haircut!!!!?

    Any ideas???

The texture of my hair is wavy when I let it dry on its own. I really don't want to spend a lot of time fixing it in the a.m. No more than 5 to 10 minutes would be fine. I'm tired of pulling it back or using hot rollers.

I just turned 41 but need something more updated... But, I could be wrong!!!!

    See my pic at: http://musikmom.blogspot.com/

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! (Links with pics would be great, too! That way I can print and take to salon!!)

  • Need prayers, other suggestions...?

W/out going into much detail, my out-of-state mom is in an unhealthy, co-depend. living situation with my younger bro, sis, her husb and their kids. (All adults are over 30 but have yet to "grow up".) Mom's the major breadwinner, and due to past issues, feels that she owes it to them to make up for a crappy childhood. (I shared the same crappy childhood but have decided that I am not a victim and refuse to live that way. Through God's grace I have been able to beat the odds, so to speak.)

This last Sat., mom was hospitalized for a possible heart attack induced by stress. She will be 60 in Apr and based on her health, she may as well be 70.

I bit my tongue, didn't yell at my siblings... "You are killing my mother! Get a life!"

I've offered help, mom doesn't want to change situation, what then? My husb's advice is to respect/accept mom's choice. If she continues lifestyle, she'll be gone in less than 5 years.

Need prayers to accpt situ... How do I truly put into God's hands? Hrtbrkn!

  • Just wondering... Fellow teachers?

How much on average, do you spend in one school year?

I know there's a big difference between getting started your first year and the years after when you're a bit more settled and have most of your resources at hand.

Just looking for a ballpark average... I'd like to see the teacher expense deduction raised from the measley $250 we currently get.

How much have I spent? Let's just say that I got a low-interest credit card and use it ONLY for teaching expenses, lit guides, supplies not provided by the district, class rewards, etc.

  • Part-time work for teacher?

I've decided that I don't want to sell stuff (I've done everything from cosmetics to toys) but want to focus on my above-average skills in a Windows environment (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). I don't want to do any of those online "marketing" scams either. I've gotten emails for word processing jobs but the so-called company wants $14 to process my application... Yeah right!

I can't really work outside the home; I have two young children and my husband works nights and every other weekend. If I get a sitter, the extra money I'd make would be a minimal. I've tried online tutoring; one place is a joke and the other isn't hiring until the summer.

I thought about teaching online but most online schools either require the teacher to be on-site using the company's computer or want a master's degree to teach undergrad college courses.

    I'm at a loss!!!

  • Is there a link between the escalation of violence in the MidEast and the appearnce of the Mahdi?

The president of Iran, in an address before the United Nations last year, suggested that the Imam Mahdi, a 9th century figure, would soon emerge from a well to conquer the world and convert everyone to Islam. "O mighty Lord," he said, "I pray to you to hasten the emergence of your last repository, the promised one, that perfect and pure human being, the one that will fill this world with justice and peace."

Does "hastening the emergence" mean that in his view, violence is a means to a peaceful end? I know my thinking is very simplistic since I'm not a Muslim scholar... (I liken it to speeding up the Apocalypse to 'hasten' Jesus' return.)

If I'm on the right track, wouldn't it make sense to get out of the region altogether and let them slug it out amongst themselves? If they are so hellbent on destroying the world, like President Ahmadinejad, these people are beyond reasoning with?

    Please explain...

  • Today's news: What on earth is going on!!!????

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070322/ap_on_re_us/mi...

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070323/ap_on_re_us/dr...

Two of these in the news... today! I'm so angry I can't even express how angry, disgusted, sad I am right now. God, I can't even imagine what the last few moments of these children were like. As I type this, I am weeping uncontrollably... I feel so broken hearted for them. My faith teaches me not to judge but I HOPE THESE ANIMALS BURN IN HELL!

Please keep these angels and the rest of our children that endure abuse and neglect like this everyday of their lives in your prayers.

    Thanks for listening...
