Howdy folks. I'm Kelsey. I live in Alaska. I like skiing, reading, running, and being outside. I procrastinate a lot. and I'm fond of sleeping, though I never get enough of it.

  • Am I using the semi-colon correctly?

Sublimity, terror, awe, imagination, and fantasy are words that come to mind when thinking about the Romantic period; a time in history that originated during the second half of 18th century Europe.

Also, let me know if anyone has any pointers on how to make this sentence sound better.

10 points to best answer :) Thank you!

  • Do you love math? Or hate it?

I have a math test tomorrow and I'm probably going to fail. Argh. I hate math with a fiery, fiery, fiery passion. I'm a word person, not a number person. Math makes me want to punch babies and small furry animals. I've studied for two hours and I'm still confused.

To the point: For those of you out of school (high school, college), do you ever use complicated math like algebra, precalc, or calculus? And I don't just mean the basic stuff. Is there hope for me yet?

    Thanks :)

  • College Admissions Essays?

Would colleges prefer if you take a more academic , serious tone?

Or a witty and humorous one?

Here's two beginnings to essays that I'm considering admitting:

Academic/serious: Note: This essay is about how my grandma has influenced me...

Before high school, I didn’t realize the significance of earning a good education, and I didn’t really think of the future. One person that made me realize the significance of learning and educating myself is my grandma. Although she passed away last fall, she left a lasting impression on my aspirations and how I live my life.

Witty/humorous: ...Not sure if my tone in this one is too "chill"...

After spending hours vacillating upon which topic I should write for my admissions essay, I've had an epiphany. The essay should be about myself. You're probably thinking, "Wow captain obvious, shouldn't you have known that all along?"

Bear in mind that these two beginnings are very, very, rough drafts.

  • iTouch or laptop???????

As we all know, Black Friday is tomorrow and the sales are going to be amazing. My parents are going Christmas shopping, and they asked me what I wanted Problem is, I'm not too sure what I want for Christmas. Its a toss-up between an iTouch and a laptop.

If I go with the laptop, it will be pretty much all I get. But it would be really awesome to have for school, games, movies, and internet (my brother and I are ALWAYS fighting over the computer, and my mom hates it when I use her laptop).

The iTouch would also be really cool. Its more portable, so I'd be able to take it anywhere, plus its cheaper, so it would save some money.

I don't know what to choose!

It'd also be cool if you guys could give some suggestions on what kind of things to get for friends and family. I'm getting stuff for people too, but I have a limited budget($100 for about 10-15 people).

    Thanks!

  • Movie suggestions please?

I'm SUPER DUPER bored tonight and I want to go rent a few movies. Problem is, I'm quite picky about movies and I tend to rewatch my favorites over and over again. I want some new favorites, so can anyone recommend me some good ones?

Here's a list of my favorites so you all know what kind to recommend.........

    -All Harry Potter movies

    -Pride and Prejudice

    - The Dark Knight

    -Titanic

    -all Star Wars

    - Forrest Gump

    - Emma

    - Pirates of the Caribbean

    - Lord of the Rings

    - The Bucket List

    - Atonement

    -Flyboys

    -Sweeny Todd

    - The Waterboy

There's probably more that I'm forgetting, but oh well.

Oh, and what Heath Ledger movies are good? I've only seen a few of his ( I think I might of saw 10 Things I Hate About You a looong time ago). But I really liked him in The Dark Knight and I'm interested in seeing more movies with Heath in them!

My mom also said The Notebook is a good movie, but I'm a bit leery of it because I'm not too much into "chick flicks" unless they are something like Pride and Prejudice or Jane Austen book based movies. So....is it worth it?

    Thank you!

Oh and I'd like my contacts to answer this because I know that we have similar taste.

  • Christmas wish list book suggestions?

I'm making my Christmas wish list and one of the main things I want this year is a bunch of books. I mainly want classics so PLEASE DO NOT recommend anything such as Twilight. Like I said, I mostly want classics, but I'm open to newer book suggestions too.

This is the list of classics that I own already (so don't suggest these) : Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

    Emma by Jane Austen

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

    Mansfield Park by Jane Austen

    Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

    Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Hehe, Its kind of a pathetic collection, but I'm looking to expand it. What are your favorites?

    Thank you!

  • The Crucible by Arthur Miller?

I'm writing an essay on The Crucible, the essay is about the hero(es) in the story.

Should I say that there are multiple heroes (John Hale, Giles Corey, Martha Corey, John Proctor, Rebecca Nurse), or should I go with just one which would be John Proctor.

Or....I could say that there are multiple heroes, but John Proctor is the tragic hero. <------Would that be too confusing though?

I'm having some difficulties ruling out who the hero(es) are, I mean many of the characters face their own deaths without even considering false confession--yet I wonder if the essay would be too confusing if I said there are multiple heroes, but John Proctor is the tragic hero.

Can anyone help me on this?

    Thank you :)

  • Should I read the introduction first?

I bought some classic books from Barnes and Noble recently. There is a loooonnnnggg introduction in all of them. Two of the books that I bought, I've already read before, so I read their introductions. The other three, however, I've never read--well, I started reading the introductions then I just got confused because they were talking about things that happened in the book, characters in the book I don't know about, etc.

Is it still advisable that I read the introductions before I read the book though? Or should I just jump into reading the book and read the introductions when I'm finished?

    Thanks!

  • Would it be safe for me to go on rides?

It's the state fair where I live and I'm about to go to it soon. About 2 weeks ago, I was is a car accident. I have no injuries, except for bruises across my stomach where the seat belt goes over and chest pain in the area where the seat belt crosses. I already saw a doctor the day after it happened and he said I was fine ( I had a chest x-ray and a Sonogram on my lower stomach to see if there was anything wrong with my spleen). I plan on going on rides, so what I wanted to know was do you think I would be fine? I'm not worried at all about the bruises, I'm more so worried about the chest pain ( it doesn't hurt 90% of the time, the only time it does is when I turn to the side pretty far or hiccup). So, do you think I would be okay enough to go on rides?

  • Which poet?....................................................?

For my honors English class, our latest assignment is to choose a poet from the American Poet Laureate list, pick a poem of theirs(analyze it), and do a very short presentation on their life and work. I have a fat load of homework, so I don't have time to research every single poet from the following list. Could some of you poetry savvy people recommend a poet from this list that wrote decent poems and has/had an interesting life? I have until Monday, the 25th to choose a poet. • AP US History study guide books?

Are they worth the buy? I'm taking AP US this year (school just started) and I want to get at LEAST a 3(4 or 5 would be better) on the final test. On Amazon I found a pack of flash cards that help you prepare,Barron's AP United States History 2008, and Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2008 Edition . Are they really worth it? What are some studying tips that you recommend for success this year?

  • AP Art History or Personal Finance?

This year I'm a junior in high school taking 2 honors classes(English and science) and one AP class (US History). I have an opportunity to switch out of one of my electives (personal finance) to switch into AP Art History. This is the last year the class will be offered at my school because the teacher of it retired last year but she is coming back just to teach this one class. I know that she is an excellent teacher, and I would learn a lot, I also love art. Personal finance though, is also a class I really wanted to take. I'm a cheapskate, I love to save money, so this class is good for me. I would not get a chance to take it senior year because the electives I'm taking are Anatomy and Physiology, Spanish, AP Literature, US Government(half semester class), and AK History(half semester class). The last two classes are required at my school so I can't opt out of them. And I really want to take the others. I am a straight A student so I know I can handle the course load, but I don't know which one would benefit me more in the long run.

So..... should I stay in personal finance or switch to AP Art History?

What would you do if you were me?

    Thanks.
