Hey everyone, hopefully you're not here because you absolutely hated something I said in one of my responses (though if you are, feel free to drop me an email and we can discuss it further). I try to research what I say as best as I can as I believe that the generally uninformed state of the populace is one of the biggest problems facing the world today (along with an apparent uninterested, uncaring mindset). But, I don't claim to be perfect and if you disagree (or even if you agree) I would be glad to take another look at the issues with you and see what we can find out.

  • Why is there so much hostility towards and misrepresentation of the facts about Scientology?

It seems that many people here and elsewhere have assumed a generally hostile attitude towards Scientology while at the same time admitting that they know little or nothing about the subject. Additionally, several of those claiming to have knowledge of the subject often make exaggerated or overtly false claims concerning Scientology - especially in the area of Ethics policies and practices. Many of the claims being put forward are shown to be demonstrably false just by picking up a book.

So, my question is: why is so much misinformation about and hostility toward Scientology being spread without any attempt to examine the data for accuracy?

    Note:

I am not, at this time, a Scientologist. I am just someone trying to get an accurate picture of Scientology.

  • Police: Public Servants or "Legal" Mafia?

Now, if you are going to respond with "you are an idiot", "yawn, 2 points", or some other worthless answer because that's as far as you are capable of thinking, we already know you lack any mental capacity, there is no need to prove it again. Kindly find another question to spread your mindlessness.

For everyone else: Explain to me how the Police and the Mafia are really any different:

    1:

The Mafia offers people protection, and expects to be... compensated. If you don't give them what they want... well, they beat the $#*! out of you.

The Police offer people "protection" (they show up after the other guys have already beaten you up), and expect to be paid. If you don't give them what they want (forced taxes), you are fined, arrested, jailed, or have it stolen from you directly (garnished wages/savings/etc.).

    2:

If a crime is committed against someone the Mafia represents, they will find out who did it, and deal with them.

If a crime is committed and you call the Police they will launch an investigation to attempt to find out who did it and deal with them.

    3:

The Mafia has a "pack mentality". They stick up for each-other, watch each-other's backs, and attacking one of them is taken as much more serious than attacking your average Joe.

The Police have a "pack mentality". They stick up for each-other, watch each-other's backs, and committing a crime against one of them is punished much more severely than a crime against your average Joe.

I've never asked for "protection" from the police. I've never requested their "services". Even the supreme court has ruled repeatedly that the Police have no duty to protect. ( http://publicrights.org/Kennesaw/PoliceResponsibil... ). The way I see it, I, and I alone, am responsible for my own security. I don't, nor would I ever want to, rely on someone else to protect me. If you want to hire additional protection, that's your choice, but being forced to pay for additional (and generally, inadequate protection - face it, the police almost always show up after a crime has been committed, not in time to stop it) protection does not do much good. Mostly what it does is create lazy citizens that want someone else to take care of all their problems for them instead of taking responsibility for themselves.

So, honestly, what makes the Police any more than a "legalized" Mafia? And as I said before, serious answers only, please.

  • Has the Second Amendment been infringed?

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As CLEARLY stated by the founding fathers, the purpose of the Second Amendment is NOT for hunting, but rather so that we can defend ourselves from the government and tyranny. To properly do so, we should be as well armed as the government, lest the power scale be tipped in their favor leaving us without the power to regain control of our country.

Doesn't this mean that by restricting Title II Weapons (Machine Guns, Short Barrel Rifles/Shotguns, Suppressors, High Power Rifles above .50CAL, etc), requiring registration or permits to purchase and/or own guns, restricting armor piercing ammo, and setting limits on how many guns you can own and how often you can purchase them that the Second Amendment is, in fact, being infringed?

It does not say "...shall not be infringed, except for X, Y, and Z". It says "... SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.". The Seconds Amendment was written specifically for military type weapons. Not for hunting rifles.

Also, the Second Amendment is not talking just about guns. It says "arms". This can be weaponry of any type. But, there's enough info to make my point using just guns. I honestly believe that it has been, and is continuously being infringed. What you you think?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security."

"Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state."

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it."

"What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance; let them take arms!"

"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."

"Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry"

"The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it."
