About Mad Cow Disease, Pork, Poultry and Fish. Death Sentence possible foods?
We've stopped eating beef because the dice roll, even if only 1 in 100 million, is not worth the ability to eat beef, since Mad Cow is a 100% death sentence.
What we're wondering though is this: are there any 100% death sentence diseases with no cure and no treatment that can be gotten from eating pork, poultry, fish, lamb, or other meats or foods?
Thank you very much.
4 AnswersOther - Diseases9 years agoCat ate Morning Glory seedling, 5 leaves now 0 leaves, will they live?
I imprudently let my little sister reposition 3 Morning Glory seedlings, each with 4 to 5 leaves to a southern window because my ankle was sprained. She put them some place where kitty could reach and sure enough one has only one leaf and the other 2 are down to stems.
Will the two stems make new leaves and live?
What can I do to help those 2 stems survive (besides keeping kitty away in the future)?
1 AnswerOther - Home & Garden9 years agoMcdonald's or other Fast-food Drive-thru question about how people act?
This question is best for people who've worked at the Drive-thru before.
1 - Do customers usually say "please" or "thank you". If out of every 100 people, how many would you say used "please" or "thank you"?
2 - How many were silent? (No "thank you", just drove away) How many were downright hostile (cussing, glares)?
For example:
You - "You wanted a coke with that?"
Customer - "Yes, please." or "Yeah I told you already! *sigh"
You - "Do you have the 3 pennies or you want the change?"
Customer - "Sorry, I only have bills." or "No, just gimme the stupid pennies! And hurry it up will ya?!"
The longer someone's worked at a drive-thru or the more experience they have the better. Thanks to all.
6 AnswersFast Food9 years agoHow to block GoogleTalk TCP 443 without also blocking google.com in Firefox?
I have to block access to GoogleTalk via a router, but Firefox stupidly attempts to connect to google.com through the same port TCP 443 (which automatically goes to https://www.google.com)/ so disabling GoogleTalk also restricts google access which is not acceptable.
So the questions are:
1. Other than TCP 443 and TCP 5223, does TCP 80 also need to be blocked to block GoogleTalk? Won't this interfere with other programs? Any workarounds?
2. And how to block TCP 443 without blocking google.com access in Firefox.
Thank you.
2 AnswersSecurity9 years agoHow to keep cat grass growing for our 10-lb tabby cat? Pot depth? Trim height? Fertilizer? Sun?
I'm growing some cat-grass seeds from the florist (Triticum aestivum) in a takeout container (with holes for drainage) and they're about 3 inches tall. There's a room our cat can't get into where other plants are growing too. I've read that the grass can grow very tall, just like in the fields of wheat that can be seen on farms.
Many cat-grass pots are grown and then left to the mercy of the cats, I'd like to grow the grass at least 4 inches tall and then trim it and give these clippings to our cat while keeping the grass alive and continuously growing.
So my questions are:
1. How deep a pot of potting soil (inches) is needed to have the grass grow healthy and continuously?
2. How much sun should it get?
3. I have miracle-gro water-soluble fertilizer, how often should this be added and at what concentration (e.g. half or quarter)?
4. How tall does the grass need to be to stay healthy? In other words, how much can it or should it be trimmed to?
5. Also I'm growing catnip too, how much can the catnip be trimmed or pruned before it can't grow back anymore (I'd like it to keep growing more)?
6. Will the cat-grass and catnip continue to grow and grow?
Thank you very much. And our beloved kitty thanks you too, she loves to nibble on it but pulls the plants completely out of the pot.
2 AnswersCats9 years agoA bayonet scene in a (military?) film I think where guns are laughed at until...?
So there's a scene in a movie I think, it might've been set in Japan maybe, where massed gun infantry are being trained and one of the characters on screen scoffs and questions what a man equipped with a gun is supposed to do when the enemy gets close.
At this point one of the soldiers being drilled points his bayonet at the speaker, half-rushes forward in a mock charge with a furious war cry that shows off his impressive zeal and provides an effective answer to the question.
Does anyone know where this scene might be from?
1 AnswerMovies9 years agoMichele Bachmann, why are conservative poll numbers for her so low?
As an Independent who does not plan to vote for Bachmann, I'm nevertheless puzzled as to why her recent conservative poll numbers are are so low.
I especially hope that conservatives will share their perspectives and insights on this question, given that Bachmann's positions are virtually all bread-and-butter American Conservative Evangelical Christian material.
On major issues (besides the basic Republican platforms of smaller government, lower taxes, and anti-Obama), Bachmann -
1. Supports Creationism education. Check
2. Fights on all levels against what many conservatives would call the "Homosexual Agenda". Check
3. Supports industry when environmental concerns are present. Check
4. Supports exploring legislation which can address the faults of Medicare and Social Security. Check
5. Unconditional support for Israel. Check
6. Anti-globalization. Check
7. Is against what conservatives term "amnesty" for illegal immigrants/undocumented workers. Check
8. Pro-Life Check
9. Protestant Christian Check
10. Skeptical of Climate Change/Global Warming. Check
The only possible viable answers at present are:
1. Sexism
2. The belief that intense media scrutiny focused on her gaffes has fatally weakened her electability in the general election.
3. She has stated her support for banning pornography. Which is simply too extreme for most American voters of the present day on all sides of the political spectrum.
4. Is not as experienced and politically adroit as Gingrich.
If there are additional reasons among conservatives for why her poll numbers are currently so low, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share them. Thank you.

Why do so many people inhabit the island of Java in Indonesia? The population density is so much higher than any nearby landmass.
Did all the people on nearby landmasses gravitate towards the island of Java at some point in history? If so, when and/or why?
2 AnswersGeography1 decade agoRegarding Gay literature in the 2nd Grade, some well-informed perspectives please?
Is it reasonable or expedient for Gay literature like the "King and King" to be allowed in the classroom with 2nd Graders?
Certainly gay individuals and their relationships are a fact and reality of American society in 2008. And it is an accepted goal that schools should serve children by opening their minds and teaching them about the world.
But many parents, for religious or other reasons are strongly opposed to allowing this.
- So I'd like some perspective on this, [[REGARDLESS OF WHY]] some parents object, nevertheless, don't their objections have any weight in the matter? Or can and/or should the government dictate what cultural values and principles are taught in tax-payer funded classrooms. I fear this could lead to a huge surge in increasingly inadequately home-schooled Americans who've never left the "nest," so to speak.
PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER WITH ANYTHING LIKE THE FOLLOWING:
1. "Gays are evil, bible and/or god and/or tradition says this that etc.."
or
2. "Gay people have rights too! Why do those stupid bigots... etc."
Those are understandable points but have little to do with the question. If provided answers DON'T ATTEMPT to answer the question, they will be reported.
To those who offer relevant answers and perspectives, I give my thanks to you all in advance.
16 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoBiggest Party for Royals in Europe, what's it called again?
I've read in the news that once a year, only the "bluest of blue bloods" are invited to a party. Only Dukes and above or some such, so there's plenty of Wittelsbachs, Habsburgs, Hohenzollerns, etc.
The news article stated that this highly excluseive party gives young royals an opportunity to associate with peers living with similarly unique circumstances.
But what's the name of the party and where's it held?
Thank you very much!
4 AnswersRoyalty1 decade agoA question for the ladies?
If you were in a relationship with a rich, confident, smart, romantic guy, and then you met a new guy on the beach who had the perfect male body and physique and is unbelievably charming - you don't know anything about this new guy but he looks like a prince from your dreams.
Would you indulge in a quickie with this new guy?
Would you do it if your boyfriend in question was just as hot as this new guy?
Would you be more likely to do it if your boyfriend was not as physically attractive?
What is it about you that makes you more likely or less likely to do it?
If there was absolutely no chance that your boyfriend would ever find out about it, would you do it?

24 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoFor Opponents of Proposition 8 (Same-Sex Marriage), a question.?
Given the following facts:
1. That gay individuals have the same potentials and short-comings as anyone not gay, that gay individuals can be just as trustworthy, brave, and sensible or as selfish, hateful, and moronic as anyone not gay -
2. That gay couples who want their relationships legally recognized HAVE THE RIGHT to the same legal protections and provisions as straight couples who also have their relationships legally recognized -
----------
Nevertheless, what is the legal basis for the insistence on the word "marriage?"
It is understandable that gay couples want their confirmed relationships (in some jurisdictions: "Civil Unions") to be accounted the same rights, respect, and dignity as straight couples who are legally married. But wanting something, even something that is reasonable, does not necessarily mean that such a notion can be supported by legal reasons.
To explain, let's say a hypothetical law was passed:
In County X of State Y, legal relationships are:
Marriage: Man and Woman
Civil Union: Man and Man, and Woman and Woman
These 2 relationships are accorded the following rights: 1, 2, 3, etc.
------
Besides the desire to reinforce equality and bring about tolerance and acceptance, are there any other reasons that can be put forth for the specific insistence on the word "marriage?"
Again, when a person says they are "married" they get a certain amount of respect and recognition, gay couples want equal recognition for their relationships and this is REASONABLE and UNDERSTANDABLE. But does this desire ITSELF merit the inclusion of same-sex unions into "marriage?" Or are there other reasons? And if so, what are they?
I feel it's necessary to bring up one final point:
It's not "Separate but Equal" in the sense that Separate but Equal involved physical institutions, available equipment, funding, etc. whereas this Proposition 8 is simply words on a piece of paper - Gay Wedding Chapels and Non-Gay Wedding Chapels will be furnished according to how much the couples can afford, not by their inherent gay or non-gay status. Homophobic vandals determined to strike will target a chapel whether that chapel is performing "civil unions" or same-sex "marriages."
The word "marriage" won't prevent bigots from immediately distrusting a gay individual or their partner, while the words "civil union" won't by themselves necessarily cause a person to disparage or look down on a gay couple (Unless that person was already inclined to prejudice). A gay person wants to turn to his/her partner and say "We're married." or "We're getting married." "We're going to share our lives together like so many other couples before us in human history." OK, GOT IT. Are there other reasons though, for the insistence on the specific word "marriage?"
12 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoWhere can I go to make connections with people who are bright, open-minded, and polite?
I'm asking partly because it's so very hard to do so. From the depths of the projects in urban decay to the halls of MENSA, to the bluest of blue blooded royals - there's always a surplus of idiots. In other words, human beings who are rude, abusive, and arrogant can be found just about anywhere. But what's a good place to find the opposite of that?
Now I know a few drinks can make many people into instant life buddies or even soul mates, (if only for one night...) but where's a place, any place even, where smart, nice people hang around or concentrate?
People who'll listen (to each other) instead of go on and on, who realize how big and complex the world is, how deep and rooted individual human beings can be, how essential contrasting perspectives are, how relative values and beliefs are, etc.
Now this isn't about IQ, income, skin color, upbringing, accents or lack of them, languages spoken at home, politics, belief in UFOs or ANYTHING of that sort. It only has to do with HOW a person goes about their life and interacts with others.
General places (art gallery, strip club, crack house) are fine if backed up, and specific suggestions (the corner of 29th and 3rd Avenue in downtown Munich, inside my mom's closet) can work as well.
I'm hoping for some thoughtful answers. Thanks.
