What?

When Hobby Lobby and other business pay employees' health insurance, isn't that a form of compensation in addition to their wages?

My understanding is that the reason why employers cover health insurance is because they get a tax break for doing so and that this incentive is the reason for the employer based health care system to begin with.

Otherwise, you would just get that money along with your wages. In other words, health insurance from your boss isn't a hand-out, it's pay...that you earned.

Am I thinking of this correctly?

On a friend's Facebook thread, someone said that her sister, who was born with a defect is losing her Medicare coverage because of Obamacare and cannot afford to get coverage through Obamacare.

I have already logged on to Obamacare and got an estimate (as a commuting student who works part-time, I make very little money) for a quite low monthly premium and subsidy. I am confused as to why this disabled woman's costs might be higher. Apparently, she isn't able to work.

I recently got hired at a new part time job. I'm scheduled to do the paperwork & the training, I did well in both interviews, I'm excited. I'm a premed student & what I've done this past year is work, go to school and volunteer. So with this new job, I also found a new volunteer opportunity in a lab, & they wanted to know my availability. I called the new job to see if they can tell me what my new schedule is going to look like.

When the manager called me back he seemed confused and flustered- seemed to think I was changing my availability, when all I was asking is when they wanted me to come to work? He wasn't angry but he made it seem like I was posing some kind of problem- said he was sorry to put me in a bind...the call ended on a good note (I reiterated that my availability is the same & that I am quitting my old job, which he seemed to think I was keeping??)

Did I breach some kind of etiquette?

I have been told that its a good idea to email professors to inquire about assisting with their research (in order to gain research experience as an undergraduate). I want to do this, however, I am not really sure what I can offer in a research project. I have had Biology I and Chemistry I & II. I am also a writer and I have tons of work experience---but its in retail.

So when I write to professors, what can I offer to do?

My pre-lab chem question asks "What Mass of NaOH is required to prepare 500 mL of .1000 M NaOH stock solution if the assay is 98% NaOH?"

I am confused by the term "assay". What are they asking me here?

When I transfer from my 2 year community college to a University, I want to major in Anthropology & Human Biology. I will transfer with an AS in Biology. However, I have read that some medical schools will look down on Science courses completed at a community college and if thats all I have, I will be less competitive, especially since I don't have "A's" in every course. If my MCAT scores are high and my science GPA is an A, will it matter? Or should I just major in Biology so I can continue to take science courses?

I really am more interested in Anthropology and I don't want to be like all the other pre-meds who apply...

My college is a 2 year commuter college where students tend to be disinterested in events because they don't directly see the benefit. I have found that events at school are a great opportunity for making connections and develop experience. That said, I am hosting a genealogy workshop in February and I would like some ideas for how to make it fun & interesting. My last successful event was an exhibit of Victorian Death Photography for Halloween.

I am drawing the Lewis Structure of F2ClO2-. I've determined that there should be only three bonds on the central atom by counting the total number of valence electrons, subtracting that from the ideal number of electrons and dividing by 2. But if there are only three bonds on the central fluorine, where do I put the other oxygen atom? Is it correct to put it on the second fluorine?

I am a sophomore at a large 2 year community college (there are no research opportunities here). I hope to transfer next fall. I am trying to find research experience in a laboratory at other , bigger universities nearby. By summer, I will be done with Chemistry I and II and Biology I. What are some tips for pursuing research? What other relevant experience (beside coursework) will they look for? Is it "weird" to email professors out of the blue and inquire about their research?

If I attend a seminar or talk relevant to my major (biology), can I include it on my resume? I am a sophomore in college and all of my work experience is in retail. I'm looking for relevant experience other than coursework to put on my resume.

This problem came up on my homework which does not give you the correct answer after you miss the question. What is the right answer and how do I figure it out?

I am watching a documentary on Netflix and in it, a biologist describes an organism that is single-celled when food is plentiful, but during scarcity, the cells unite to become a slug-like multicellular organism. Ultimately, it forms a spore on the forest floor and germinates...the biologists in the documentary alternately describe it as a "slime mold" and "a kind of primitive mushroom". I think this is cool as hell and I want to know more about it. Is this how all mold functions? Or all mushrooms? I'm guessing this is a group of creatures that does this but...what are they called? Any recommended books or websites?

A few years ago, a friend of mine opened her first checking account. Her father asked to use the account and made a deposit + withdrawal. He overdrew the account and the bank added on fees. The account wwas closed. it was only within the past year that she checked her credit report for the first time and realized that she owes this bank nearly $2000.I've told her she can go to the bank and pay it off, but she wants to have clean credit so she can get on with her life. it sucks that she has to pay for her father's irresponsibility.

So, my question is, if they both go to the bank, can he assume this debt on his credit?

Your credit report says your low credit limit (on a secured card) is bringing down your credit score. Is there a general amount that is considered good? Could you just increase the amount on your card to get a credit boost?

I don't have any major credit cards yet because of my age. This is bringing down my credit score. So I was wondering if opening a pre-paid Visa or American Express or Mastercard or whatever would boost my score--because I don't think I can get a regular card with them--and I don't want to lower my score with a bunch if credit applications.
