  • Hypothetical Ethics Question?

If an attorney has a contract with a company, and he gives someone (not with the company) legal advice on how to sue the company he is representing, has the attorney done anything wrong?

If not, how could that action be justified?

If it is wrong, what is the appropriate terminology used to describe the attorney's action and what could be done about it?

  • How would I dress "trendy professional" for an interview?

I am in the process of interviewing for new jobs. I typically dress in a classic professional manner. One of my basic interview outfits is a black suit with white pinstripes and a cute but professional top. I wear open-toed shoes with about a 2-3 inch heel.

I was specifically told by my recruiter that I should dress "trendy, but professional" for my interview tomorrow. Does anyone have some ideas?

  • What kind of legal recourse (if any) can I take about this sexist remark at work?

A board member made the statement that it isn't right for me (a female) to have a male assistant. He said that the man should get the bigger office and in his day that men were in charge. He chuckled as he said it, but he's been know to make sexist/racist remarks.

Is there any legal recourse I can take? What would be the proper procedure to prevent his remarks from hurting my career?

  • Where can I find a nice hooded raincoat?

I have a nice raincoat now, but it has no hood. I would love to buy a raincoat that has a hood. I need something "dressier" than my old North Face jacket. I need something that I could wear with business casual clothes and perhaps a suit. I would appreciate any links.

  • Can I call 911 from a disconnected landline?

I've heard that I can still call 911 from my landline as long as it is hooked up to a phone jack even though I don't subscribe to a phone service. Is this true?

  • How should I apologize to friends for missing their wedding when they had been expecting me?

I am supposed to go to my friend's wedding tonight, but I have come down with a stomach virus. I know she will understand (she may not even notice that I'm not there). But I want to know the proper ettiquette in this situation. Should I send a card or note apologizing? Would a quick email this evening or tomorrow be a good idea? What is the best thing to do in this situation?

  • I used "Acne Free" and my skin got worse and itchy. Is this normal?

(this was also posted under Skin Conditions-- I just wanted to ask a wider variety of answerers) I didn't have problems with acne until I graduated college last year. I am 23. The acne isn't severe, but I still want to treat it. I regularly use Clearsil Ultra Scrub twice a day. I saw the "Acne Free" products at the store and researched it a little. I got more breakouts the day I started using it. It itched like crazy! I had a big social event coming up so I switched back to the Clearasil. Are the worsening acne and itching part of the regular healing process? Has anyone else had experience with this product line? Any recommendations for a 23 year old female with mild to medium acne?

  • What is the whistling sound that my car is making?

A few days ago, my car started making this high pitched whistling noise when I am driving. One of my friends says that it sounds like someone is whistling in Morse code. The noise always stops when I brake. I don't hear it when I am going at higher speeds (50mph+), but it is pretty constant in city traffic. I do not know much about cars. What might this be?

  • How can I treat symptoms of a UTI?

I have scheduled an appointment with a doctor for tomorrow morning because I think I have a Urinary Tract Infection, but I was wondering what would be good to treat the symptoms today. I am experiencing burning (even when I'm not urinating), cramps and nausea.

I also have a headache, and I want to know if it is ok to take something for it. I don't want to do anything that will make this worse.

  • Why did my doctor send the bill to my emergency contact?

My parents just called and told me that there was a bill addressed to "The Parents of [me]." I have not lived with them or been on their insurance for over a year (I am 23). When I went for my annual "female" visit, I used the insurance that I pay for at work. I received a small bill for the part that was not covered by my insurance. I paid it immediately, and the check cleared the bank. Today my parents received a much larger bill for that visit. The only way they could have gotten my parents information is from the emergency contact list. I would have gladly paid (or contested) the bill had it been sent to me first. I do not like the idea that they would send a medical bill to my emergency contact. Is it a mistake? Is this a normal practice? Is this legal?

I'm glad I didn't put my boyfriend as my emergency contact!

  • Air conditioning problem in my apartment?

My air conditioner cools sometimes, but then sometimes I will come home to an 85 degree apartment when the A/C is blowing only slightly cool air. When that happened the first time, I turned it off (to conserve electricity) and called the landlord. They left me a note saying my problem was that I had turned off the unit. When it happened again-- it was the middle of the night so I tried turning it off and back on and it started working. I asked them to check out the unit anyway because that does not seem normal. When I came home to an 85 degree apartment yesterday, the landlord accused me of making this up and said someone would come to check it out. When the guy finally came to check it, he admitted that the A/C was not cooling, but he couldn't find anything wrong with it. If they do not take any action to correct this problem, is there something I can do?

  • Will the speeding ticket go on my record even though I never got a copy?

Over 4 months ago, I was pulled over for speeding in Nashville, TN. The officer wrote me a ticket and I signed it. He then got back in the car, without giving me a copy of the ticket. I have not received anything in the mail either. I had set aside money to pay the ticket and planned to go to traffic school to make the ticket cheaper. But I never heard form them. I called the police station to ask about the ticket and they said there was no record. I called the State Trooper's office too and there is no record of a ticket. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there anything else I should do?

  • Sleeping over?

I have been dating a great guy for a few months now. On the weekends, we almost always spend at least one night together. Sometimes during the week he'll stay at my place if it gets late. That is easier for him to do because he usually works from home. If he is planning to go into the office the next day, he will bring his work clothes for the next day over (even if we didn't discuss sleeping over before). I like that he does that. I never bring clothes to his place when I go during the week, but I was thinking about doing it. When I am there he says "You are always welcome to sleep over." Of course I could just ask before I go, but I'd prefer to be more laid back about it. I'd really like opinions on whether or not I should just show up with my clothes for the next day? If he does it when he comes to my place, shouldn't it be ok for me to do it at his place? He said I was always welcome.

  • What are some good karaoke duets?

What are some good karaoke duets for a male and a female (or just fun duets)? My boyfriend and I are doing a karaoke date tomorrow night-- neither of us sing very well, but we have fun doing it! He suggested we sing together last time we went, but we had a hard time thinking of duets.

  • Changing birth control causing these symptoms?

I am 23 years old. I have been on some type of birth control pill since I was 15. Last Sunday I started a different birth control (Loestrin-24) at the time I would normally start a new pack of my old birth control (Velivet- a triphasic oral contraceptive). Today (Monday, week 2) I started experiencing vaginal itching and break-through bleeding (I remember what that was like from when I started BC Pills at 15 years of age). I did have sex on Friday (week 1), but we used a condom and we are monogamous (we have both been tested for STDs since our last partners). Has anyone else experienced this when changing pills or does it seem normal? Did changing types of pills cause these symptoms? Will the symptoms go away? What might treat the itching?

  • What happens to my pension if I leave before I am fully vested?

My employee handbook says I will be fully vested in 5 years. What happens if I leave this job after just 1 year? I totally skipped the day we talked about pensions in my finance class.

  • When can I call him my boyfriend?

We met nearly 3 months ago on an online dating site. After talking online for 3 weeks, we met in person while he was planning to move here for work. He has lived here for over 6 weeks. We act like a couple. We frequently go out on dates, kiss, cuddle, and sleep over. He met my parents and got me a present on my birthday. I know that neither of us are currently seeing anyone else and we both really like each other. But we are both listed as single on our various social networking sites. He still hasn't updated a lot of things on his profiles (like his new city), so I wonder if he's waiting for a cue from me? I want advice on how (or if) I should talk to him about this. Should I hint that I want to call him my boyfriend? Should I wait for him to bring it up? How do adults handle this? Is it normal for a 26 year old guy to ask a 23 year old girl, "Will you be my girlfriend?" I haven't had a serious committed relationship since college, and then he just asked me to be exclusive.
