Iphone AV controller for Yamaha RXV Amplifier - Does it work?
I read the reviews of recent Hi-Fi Receivers such Pioneer and Yamaha. I bought the Yamaha RXV 1067 amplifier because it supports an iphone app that I could use to control the Yamaha receiver eg volume, scene modes, on/off, bass & treble, dock, network, tuner etc. I just found it doesn't work at all after installing the app. I've been asking the manufacturer and checking all the forums. They recommend to download the latest firmware which I have done so or to reset the iphone settings which I tried. It recognises the AVR 1067 with an icon but it does nothing. I have been able to stream music from my PC from the next room, able to update firmware wirelessly and with my BD player I can upload various internet channels etc. Does anyone have experience with the Yamaha AV controller version 1.3 - would appreciate your recent experience and what settings you made. Incidentally my iphone is a 3GS and OS version 4.3
I downloaded the app on my other iphone 4 but the app still won't run on that phone either. My Yamaha AV receiver is version 3.16 - I've a feeling I was sold a dud. I have checked that the AV settings should be turned to standby and receiver is on. I should have got a Pioneer Receiver. I heard their iphone app is so cool.
Home Theatre10 years agoWhats the value in buying an expensive Lian Li case over other PC cases? Is it wrong to get it?
I looked over a couple of gaming cases from companies like Thermaltake, Asus, Antec etc. I am especially interested in Lian Li ones which are aluminium, anodised and a lot of fans to cater for expansion (hard drives, and graphic cards). A normal case which has some SECC steel and plastic with no front fans would cost $50 but cases like this one PC-A77B cost about 8 times the price. Has anyone out there have a Lian Li case, and what's their experience in having one as opposed to a normal case? I never had one and would like anyone who owned one speak of their experience. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=prod...
2 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoMarvel Collectable statues and busts?
I am posing a question to all fans of Marvel, collectors and the general public, if collecting these statues is worth the price that they charge. For eg. one of the statues I looked at cost about $500 australian. This equates to the cost of a modest laptop computer. The statue is limited edition with a production run of around 2,000 units. It is made in China. I think the material is some kind of polystone, heavy and painted. If you count that by total production it should make a tidy sum of $1m. It is very highly crafted. Do you think it is a good investment or even worth the value of money paid for it? I asked a local dealer about it's worth here, apparently there is no demand for it, maybe in the US. Should I be buying one or should I consider a Playstation 3 or ipod Classic. A statue may not be the best ideal purchase. I like it but can't seem to consider it a value for money. What are your thoughts?
2 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoWhy does Command & Conquer 3, Tiberian Wars on PC disconnect while playing online?
I've been playing online matches both custom & automatch for the past few months. But beginning of last week, the game disconnects. It says one or more player is attempting to circumvent the rules etc by leaving the game midway. I have no option either to select quit or kick the opponent, and I win each match. It seems to happen with each and every online game. I don't like to win this way. I changed over my broadband modem/router and replaced it with another, still it happens. I am with iinet on a ADSL plan. Nothing has changed in my equipment setup, no cordless phones, same PC. It also does that on another PC and disconnects. I have reinstalled the game, and patched it with version 1.09. Is the EA server in USA all stuffed up? This is a great game but I am really puzzelled. Does anyone experience the same problem? Please help.

1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoSurround speakers for hi-fi home theatre? Audiophiles and speaker enthusiasts please.?
I bought a set of hifi speakers with the centre speaker (B&W), main L&R speakers (JBL), rears (Kenwood diopole) and subw (B&W). I hadn't placed the Kenwood rears properly and rarely hear the sound effects. I am thinking of getting another set. I finally bought two stands to place the rear speakers but the ones I have are two heavy to be supported by the stands, the max is 2lbs. My Kenwoods are 2.3lbs and look too big to sit asthetically on the stands I purchased. Initially, I thought I could get any eg. Sony speakers but I found that today's market is all speakers one set with amplifier. The sydney hifi market is almost dead and all retailers are going for the all-in-one home theatre. I bought my set 3 years ago. Is it possible for me to buy a small mini compo and use those speakers as my back surrounds? I can check if they will accept 8 ohms with 89 db noise levels. Do you think this is better? I am only wanting to pay no more than A$200 for a pair. Will it work?
1 AnswerMusic & Music Players1 decade agoIs Chicken Feet a source of cartilage to cure arthritis?
I have been dining on asian cuisine and one of the delicacies is eating chicken feet cooked in soy sauce and herbs. I eat about 2 kilos of chicken feet a week. My asian friends say that this provides a beneficial source of cartilage which prevents arthritis when I get older. I also drink the soup that comes from the feet. When I store it in the fridge, the soup base hardens into a thick jelly like rubber. Is this chicken feet consumption bad for my cholesterol? Is eating the feet safe in the long term if I keep eating it?

What's your experience with dual LCD screens? Does it drop the resolution? Will the toolbars span across the two screens? I noticed there will be a split between the two screens. Is it better to get one large screen instead? I use it for excel and word documents.
7 AnswersMonitors1 decade agoLongevity of DVD discs?
I created my home made movies from my videocam, and edited these to DVD discs using an editor program. The discs played fine and very clear with good sound. I used Shintaro blanks as well as TDK DVD-R's. I have had about 6 completed dvd movies made. It is three years down the track and I was playing it for my nieces coming from overseas. I was horrified that each one of them have started stuttering, there was shakes and then finally stopped midway through when I was playing it. I played on 2 different PCs and on my standard DVD player, but they have all the same problem. They're all different movies I made but all the disks have the same problem. They were stored on cd cases. Does anyone know why they have become like this? It couldn't be the software problem, because they worked perfectly when I created them. Does anyone have experience in dvd copies that have degraded over time.In commercial movies they shouldn't happen but mine seems to have deterorirated. I have to re-compile again
4 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoTo Firewall or not?
I recently requested assistance with regards to enabling my LAN as I had trouble accessing files from each computer. My IT friend who works as a consultant in networking set about disabling both the windows firewall and the TrendMicro software firewall. Then he setup permissions for the folders on each PC. Now the LAN works properly as I can tap into files from any of my pcs across the network. But I am worried that if I do internet banking or have a trojan then without a firewall, I am more apt for trouble in the future. Is it safe or not? My computers have Norton IS 2007 and Trend Micro 2007 and my Pcs are all patched with XP and Vista. The router, a Linksys WRT54G has a hardware firewall enabled, WPA and MAC address security with 2 of laptops and 2 desktops. I need your opinion about whether it is necessary for a firewall enabled when a firewall is already installed at the gateway (router). Thankyou.
1 AnswerSecurity1 decade agoBesides the cost of fast rail, why won't Australia invest in high speed transportation linking country areas?
That way, our population will be decentralised along the major routes and solve our housing crisis in Sydney & Melbourne. Why not emulate Japan or Germany? Why hasn't our politicians thought of this?
