How should I finish this piece?
I started a project today, but I'm not sure how I want to finish it.
You can see the line art here: http://artvibesportfolio.tumblr.com/post/527219201...
I can't decide between watercolor, ink, and colored pencil for the mediums (I might end up using all 3).
Moreover, I can't decide if I should just paint the background I have planned and leave the face blank (to juxtapose the graphic stylized line art with a colorful background), or if I should color in the face as well.
Here's the most recent colored face I've done using watercolor and colored pencil:

I really appreciate your input (unless it's spam or unnecessarily rude I suppose), thanks in advance!
1 AnswerDrawing & Illustration8 years agoWhich paper should I use for oil pastel?
I don't have pastel paper, or I would use that.
I currently have watercolor and bristol, I'm thinking of using the watercolor paper because it has more tooth and should hold the colors better.
However, if they aren't compatible, I'd like to know before I test it out.
Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersOther - Visual Arts8 years agoHow do you get over art block?
Hi there,
I run an art blog, and I'm planning on making a post about how one can get over art block.
I have my own ideas started, but I was thinking that it would be best to get more opinions.
The more the merrier, right?
So, if you are so inclined, please leave a few of your own methods for relieving art block.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a swell day,

3 AnswersOther - Visual Arts8 years agoIf I tone a paper yellow, how well will blues and purples show over that?
I work in watercolor, so I'm familiar with how the colors blend together. I haven't tried layering colors yet though.
I'm also very familiar with color theory so I know that getting cool blues and purples will be difficult because blue and yellow make green, and since purple and yellow are complementary, together they'll make a brownish tint.
So I guess what I'm really asking is if I should use a gouache or acrylic over the watercolor, or would using lowering the ratio water:paint.
I got a really nice set of Grumbacher watercolor in tubes and I'm very excited to try it out, and it's inspired me to break out of my shell with new techniques.
Do you think I should do a testing page, or just go for it (which is what I usually do).

I'm ready to move on to a new style.
2 AnswersPainting8 years agoWhat's your favorite kind of art and why?
Do you prefer digital or traditional art?
If you prefer traditional, what's your favorite medium?
What kind of art do you like most (manga/anime, realism, surrealism, abstract, etc)?
Do you prefer fan art or original pieces?
Loosely done, or tightly rendered?
What is your preferred subject matter?
What do you like to draw (even if you aren't an artist)?
Please answer any/all of the above and include why.
3 AnswersOther - Visual Arts8 years agoDoes this technique work in watercolor?
I watched a time-lapse video of someone creating a piece using copic markers.
The artist colored in grey tones, and then went over it with colors.
If I were to paint something in grey scale in watercolor, then come back over it when it was dry with color, would that work?
Watercolors are very translucent, will the grey tones show through the color layer from beneath, or will it just muddy up the colors?
Thanks in advance!
3 AnswersPainting8 years agoI need some date ideas, please?
I've been with my boyfriend for a little over a year, and since this is the last week before I start classes again, we were thinking of doing something whimsical and/or romantic.
We've already done loads of things (concerts, fairs, beach, park, movies, dinner, etc), so I need some help deciding on something fresh.
We don't have a lot of money to spend, but any suggestion is appreciated.
Thank you!
2 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoWhat's up with YouTube?
Whenever I try to watch a video, I get a few seconds in and it stops playing and just says "an error has occurred, please try again later". I've noticed that it happens when I enlarge the video, but it has happened a couple of times even when I watch it at the regular size.
Anyone know what's up?
3 AnswersYouTube8 years agoI have an issue, can you please help?
On Boxing Day (Dec.26th), I ate some mushrooms with my boyfriend. It's been over a week and I've noticed that right now if I move a little bit, my head feels heavy and I have some nausea (similar to the pitching/rolling feeling), and things are wobbling in my peripheral vision. It feels like just the physical part of coming up.
So what I would like to know is if this is from the mushrooms I ate, or do I have some sort of equilibrium issue?
I didn't sleep last night, but this doesn't feel like just being tired.
It's also possible that I went too far into my ear canal when cleaning my ears yesterday, I hurt myself doing it (my ear still hurts a little). I know that the fluid in my ear is what helps me keep my balance, so I'm thinking that it could be that.
I'm going to try sleeping, in case I am simply tired.
Please don't leave judgmental comments about mushrooms/drug use, it was the first and only time I've done it, we split maybe a gram, I'm 21, there was a lot of thought and preparation put into that venture.
2 AnswersOther - Health8 years agoWhat do you think of my art overall?
I know that my technical skill isn't spectacular, but my concern has always been more about creativity and experimenting with a large variety of supplies.
However, I tend to make really...quirky art. I put a lot of time, energy, and thought into all of my work, but I'm afraid that it's inaccessible.
Can you please take a look and tell me what is likable and what is unlikable?
I'm looking for someone to discus the content of the work and materials used, not so much the aesthetic.
I used to do this with friends, but since we've been out of high school I don't have anyone to discuss the content and physical process of art with.

4 AnswersPainting8 years agoWhat kind of paper would work best?
I'm about to start an art piece on an ATC, I have:
-Bristol
-Smooth Bristol
-Canvas
-Textured
-Watercolor
-Illustration board
-Acrylic
I'm not sure if I want to use WinsorNewton ink or if I want to use gouache.
Which paper do you recommend for each medium, or which do you think would work for both?
3 AnswersPainting8 years agoHow can I be more motivated to draw?
I love art, I think about it almost nonstop every day. However, I procrastinate a lot when it comes to actually making anything.
I love to talk about art and share my knowledge and read about other's techniques.
I also love researching new materials and styles.
I can't seem to get myself to sit down and make new pieces though.
How can I increase my desire to create new art?
