  • can I register my dad's car for him?

My father has been taking an extended stay in the "loony bin" and the title etc is all in his name and not accessible to me. The registration paperwork was mailed out to him but he has a mail forward set up which is apparently your right even when you superparanoid and bipolar and deemed unfit for society. The car has been at my apt since it can't be at my parent's house due to a restraining order against him and apparently his car is included in that. I have proof of insurance and last year's registration papers, will that be enough?

  • Does religion hold back space exploration?

This idea came up in two separate discussions today. I talked to my pastor and he doesn't think so, but I don't believe him to be knowledgeable on that.

I want to see some real facts, not one-liners.

  • Why do bands bother with record labels?

I mean, with the internet the way it is these days, it's no problem to release music on your own with a service like Tunecore that lets you keep all the monies from what you manage to sell. I saw a story at http://www.toomuchjoy.com/?p=1397 about a band called "Too Much Joy" who after five years made a total of $62.47 from three albums over five years and still have a $400,000 debt, even though they had tons of downloads and royalties that they should have received.

Record labels are obviously not profitable for bands, and with the internet it's entirely possible to bypass them and not incur a massive debt in the process. IMO if you choose music as a profession, you should be able to make money from it. People gotta eat.

  • I know what but I don't know where?

I'd like to go to college for something computer-related. Right now I'm leaning towards networking since I took a class on it already in high school, and I'm also very close to being certified in A+ maintenance. I live in Illinois and going to college in-state would be very preferred but I am open to colleges in neighboring states.

    I'm already checking out:

    * Heartland Community College in normal

    * Western Illinois University

    * Robert Morris University (chicago or peoria)

    * Illinois State University

    * DeVry in Tinley Park

I also received a truckload of letters and packets from Neumont University waaay out in Utah and I like the programs they have going on over there, but it's just so far away and I would prefer to stay in the midwest for the time being.

  • How should I behave at a military funeral as a bugler?

I will be playing taps; with a real trumpet not the electronic thing. I know how to play it, but I am unsure of how to act and what is the proper procedure. The guides I found online seem to assume that I am military personnel but I am a civilian volunteer.

  • How do I decrypt music which I purchased from iTunes?

tonight I bought two tracks. In marching band this year, we are playing the two, but there's some editing. I can't stand listening to my director's MIDI file so I bought these two.

After a good ten minutes of digging around I found where iTunes hid my music, and tried to load it into Audacity. I found out the damn file is encrypted.

I was told on the 'ITunes Plus' page that all music was now sold in a high-quality format and without DRM.

How can I go about unencrypted it? I tried so far to right-click on the file and hit 'create AAC copy', but the new copy is STILL in that stupid m4p nonsense.

And please, don't hit me with thirty different programs costing $19.99 each. Every time I post about sound in general, I get your stupid advertisements. I know your programs suck so go find somebody stupid enough to do it that ISN'T me.

  • Where can I find a very good, free virus scanner?

I currently have AVG Free edition and it's working great, finds whatever I pick up when I access from public wifi spots, but now I've got something that it can't find. I ran spybot S&D and the McAfee stinger as well but neither will get rid of it!

Symptoms: Disables misc system services such as print spooling, XP themes (it reverted me to win98 theme until I figured out where the theme was hidden...) toggles internet connectivity, 'stops' USB devices, and I recently found out it either deleted or hid a year's worth of system restore points, which I make weekly.

This is extremely annoying and so far no virus scanner I know to be decent has identified what's doing it.

I haven't installed anything new over the past few weeks

  • 6-8 monitor display. What video card(s) can we use?

My class is going to try and set up a flight simulator. We've got money, we can get software, controllers, blah blah blah, but we're not sure what video card(s) to use. It's going to be a single-computer setup.

What I need to know is what kind, and how many video cards would work for this?

  • My phone can't go online. Will any websites send ringtones through multimedia messeges instead of internet link?

So far I've tried phonezoo and myxer. They send me an sms message with a link, but I can't go to it because my prepaid plan doesn't allow me to do so. I have tmobile pay-as-you-go, with a Samsung T319 phone.

  • What's a good wireless router for gaming on?

Unfortunately, I can't convince my mom to let me run an ethernet cable through her house, so I'm going to have to resort to wireless technology to get me onto xboxLive and whatnot. Right now, our internet is through our CableTV provider, who also provides our phone.

The internet runs though a Touchstone Telephony Modem through the black, round cable, and goes to our computer through an Ethernet cable.

I noticed for our Wii we can buy a little USB plugin thing that connects the Wii wirelessly to the computer, and then internet from there. Can I do that from an Xbox360?

If not, I'll likely need a wireless router, but can I still keep my PC on a wired connection? Is there any kind of splitter I can use behind the Touchstone internet modem that will split the connection between the computer and the router? I would prefer to keep the computer on a direct connection if at all possible.

If none of this is possible, I'll just go without Live. I can't lose what I never had.

If it is, what hardware would you suggest, that can fit on my budget? I'm a high-school teen with a part-time job, so it's not like the sky is the limit.

  • Why does Windows hang on startup, after removing and then reinserting an ATI graphics card?

Today I cleared dirt out of an ATI video card because the fan was noisy. After putting it back in and booting up, XP hangs on the splash screen. I'm able to boot in to safemode(with networking), which is how I managed to post on here.

  • What should I do to my bike to ready it for winter riding?

With gas prices on the soar, I really can't afford to drive to school and work on a teenage minimum wage salary, so I ride my bike. It kinda grew on me. Unfortunately, every winter brings obscene amounts of ice, and the town cannot afford to salt EVERY road- including mine.

--> What can I do to my bike (it's a hybrid, with thin rims) to ensure better traction, and overall better winter riding?

  • I'm looking for a music manipulation program.?

I run the trumpet section at my high school, and we really need to practice, as a group, a section of about a hundred measures. I have the song downloaded to my mp3 player, and I play it through the band room's music system.

What I'd really like to do is snip out the section of the piece, and move it to a separate track, so I don't have to 'rewind' to get to the beginning of the section every time we start over. Nothing too fancy, just clipping some ends.

  • Scientology?

Just what is it? I was doing some research, but to me It looked like a scam. They demand quite a bit of payment in return for knowledge on what your trying to believe in. Can anybody give me some 'free' info on it?

  • My best friend is considering suicide. I'd like some help/guidance from my fellow Christians.?

He says he's been considering this for a few years. He already has THREE plans. We're both 16, and we both have an entire life ahead of us, but this is not something either of us should have to deal with. Most websites I've visited so far end at the "seek professional help" part, but neither of us have any cash. We're both at the "applicant" stage of a high school job.

Any help anybody can give is well appreciated, but I don't want fifty-two "good luck"'s down the page, I don't want a bunch of atheist one-liners that I have been getting so sick of. I want actual help. I understand good intention, but this is important. Every day brings on a whole new set of problems, and I want some actual help.

  • So.. I'm confused. What REALLY makes Firefox so much more secure than Internet Explorer?

As a note, I use firefox because of the customization that it comes with. I love being able to pick a theme and all sorts of extensions that make firefox so much better, but I want to talk about security.

Leaving AdBlock Plus and NoScript out of this, how is FF more 'secure' and IE?

  • Elder scrolls Oblivion: expansion disks?

I'm playing Oblivion a lot lately, but my disk seems to have acquired a scratch that can't really be fixed, and the only area of the game that seems to affect is Chedynhal, although it's pretty annoying since a lot of my income came from the dark brotherhood weekly quest. If I went to bestbuy or somewhere and got a new Shivering Isles disk, would I be playing from the new disk, or the original? I'd prefer to not have to buy a new Oblivion disk, considering the price of the game, and the price of gas.

  • Looking for a book cimilar to 'A Game of Thrones' series.?

I've been reading fantasy for most of my sixteen years. All the classics. sword of truth, Lord of the Rings, Harry potter, eragon, Shannara, you name it, I've probably read it. Last month I came across George R.R. Martin and his series 'A Song of Ice and Fire.' It sets completely new standards for Fantasy. Everything else has similar plots, a young unspecting lad saving the world from some unspeakable darkness. But this is waaay different. It's actually somewhat realistic.

If anybody else has read these, do you know of any other books that are like it?
