  • If I exercise more do I need to consume more sodium?

I know that everyone says that to lose "weight" (read: water weight) you need to consume less sodium, not more. But I'm not really concerned about losing artificial bloat weight, I'm concerned about keeping healthy.

So, sweat is salty, which I can only assume means that when I sweat a lot during a workout, I'm losing salt, not just water. Does this mean that I should keep my sodium levels up? I know that excess sodium is bad, and I know that keeping sodium levels *down* to a healthy level is difficult enough, but if I'm doing accounting for sodium in my diet anyway, is it okay/good/bad to let it go a little over 100% of my daily recommended intake on that one factor?

Would love a few articles/facts to back anything up.

  • do calorie counters take BMR into account?

If I'm trying to accurately account for the calories I actually burn in a day from my BMR + any excercise, is it safe to assume that calorie counters that take my weight and the activity into account are ignoring my BMR? or do I also need to factor out what my body would have been burning in the background.

For instance, if my BMR is 1600 and I walk for an hour and burn 100 calories, should i say that for the day I burned 1700 calories, or should I subtract my background BMR from that 100 calories and say that I burned 100 - (1600/24) + 1600? I've never been able to get a clear reading on this. Obviously, the difference isn't going to be that great for just an hour of walking, but if I were to amp it up for a few hours a few times a week then the difference would be very great.

Any definitive views on this out there?

  • did i screw up these sugar cookies?

    okay, slight baking emergency.

recipe (here): http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/easy-sugar-cookies/D... says beat sugar and butter together, then add dry ingredients. i mixed the dry ingredients, plus, oops, the sugar. now i almost have enough flour to start over, but if i have to make up the rest from the mixture i just made, am i going to ruin the batch?

or can i just mix it all together as is?

help! so busy and clueless and stressed...

  • easiest/cheapest way to clean a large copper basin?

i have a large(ish) copper basin that's been pretty thoroughly oxidized and i want to restore its shine and use it as a planter. i remember using coca cola to clean off pennies when i was a kid, would something like that work now? the corrosion is so great and the tub is so large that i don't want to spend a week scrubbing at it with harsh chemicals, i'm hoping someone will know an easier and cheaper way to get the green off and make it gleam.

  • Will NBC have the Macy's parade online to re-watch tomorrow afternoon?

People aren't gathering at my house until after noon tomorrow, and I'd like to be able to play the parade as something to watch while we're finishing up cooking. Will NBC have their footage of the parade available to replay online?

  • What caused the Colorado Plateau to be uplifted?

So, if the stratigraphy of the rocks eroded by the Colorado river shows that the Colorado plateau wasn't likely thrust up by events from without, that is it's still level and intact, then what was it that uplifted the area so dramatically?

  • Please help me form a few familiar phrases in Spanish?

My little nephew (he is almost two years old) and his mama are visiting from Peru, staying for the weekend. He is bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish, and while I will speak mostly to him in English I want to speak urgent phrases and sweet phrases to him in Spanish, as this is the language he is exposed to most.

I would like to know how to say:

    "don't touch that, it's special,"

    "don't touch that, it's dirty"

    "be careful with the puppy"

    just "be careful"

also, whether his name goes before or after these phrases when I address him?

i also need the acceptable or familial form of "i love you" for a young boy

as well as "you are sweet."

    and "little nephew"

help on any of these is appreciated. his mama laughs at me when i try out my very remedial spanish on her so i thought knowing a few phrases would be nice and make him feel at home.

  • Does stem length affect a cut flower's life?

I've been bringing in daffodils from the yard to brighten up my house -- the first two bouquets stayed lively for almost a week, but the one I've just cut is wilted after only 3 days.

The lengths of the stems on the first two were about twice what I cut this time, because after a cold snap most of the flowers in the yard drooped and bent the stem so that they wouldn't stand in a tall vase. Was it the cold snap that did this bunch in, or does a short stem length affect how long a flower will stay bright after it's cut?

    Thanks.

  • LOST taking forever to load on abc.com?

I'm well behind on this season of Lost, having not had cable! I went to abc.com, installed the latest Flash plug in for Firefox no problem, but when I open an episode is just loads endlessly without showing any signs of progress whatsoever.

So, is the load time just abominable, or is there something wrong with the site? Is there something wrong on my end?

I'd like to watch on abc.com and not somewhere else because they've got it in HD -- has anybody else encountered and overcome this problem already without reverting to another site?

    Any help appreciated, thanks.

  • Website for evaulating film content?

I work at a movie store and I often get questions from parents about how severe a film's content actually is. Even if I spent every waking hour watching movies, I couldn't keep up with all of the stuff that comes out every week. I've heard of websites which give a good summary of why movies are rated the way they are, but I can't remember any addresses!

Does anybody out there use these resources? If so, which is the most reliable or established? I would like to be able to refer concerned parents to somewhere good and trustworthy so they can get the answers they want and keep trusting my opinion.

    Thanks!
