  • teething, little blood on the molars?

My son is going to be 1 year old on Friday. In the last 48 hours, 2 canines have erupted and 2 molars have come through. (and yes it has been a loooong 2 days!) and you can see the whites showing through the gums on the bottom 2 canines and top molars.

When I was changing his diaper for bed, I noticed his molar had what looked like blood on it. His gums have been super swollen with these teeth. I haven't noticed any blood in his slobber, but it looked terribly painful. When I tried to get a closer look, he screamed in pain. We have been giving him motrin, frozen french toast sticks, and used baby oragel tonight.

So, it the bleeding normal? How long will this teething last??

  • What unsolicited advice are you tired of getting?

    Hi all,

Just for fun, I was wondering what unsolicited advice do you get all the time?

My husband and I always get asked, "Where are his socks?!"

My son will NOT keep socks on. He is 9 months old and he pulls his socks off to chew on them. We put them on when we leave the house, but by the time we are 5 minutes down the road, he has pulled at least one off and is chewing it. I stopped fighting with him. I just make sure his feet aren't cold and go on with our day. Well, now that it is getting cooler, every older woman that sees us, asks, "where are your socks?!" and then shoots my husband and I a look. We just laugh it off, but it is almost daily now!

So what question/advice are you tired of hearing from random people?

  • Dog and baby issues (20 characters)?

My husband and I have an 8 month old son (Van) and a French Bulldog (Jules). They normally play well together. Van loves the dog. When we brought Van home from the hospital, Jules was right there beside him at all times... even hated it when we would leave the house.

Today we were all playing in the floor. Van crawled over to Jules as usual. There was no growl or change in Jules's body posture, but he turned and snapped at Van. Like a warning snap... not making contact. I was within reach of course and pulled my son back immediately. This is so out of character for our dog. Jules is a sweetie most of the time. He never barks and has never bit anyone. He has shown some dog aggression, but it is really dependent on the other dog. Normally only towards dogs that are bigger than him.

My husband was in the room as well. We are so torn as to what to do at this point. We love our dog, but our child's safety is our number one priority. We got the dog when he was 18 months old, so we do not know all of his history, but he has never shown aggression towards people at all. If this is an isolated incident, then we hate to give him away, but if it was to happen in the future we could never forgive ourselves. We have found a wonderful home if need be, but I want to know that I am making the right decision. Have any of you other parents out there gone through something like this? Did you find your dog a new home?

  • engorgement, sore breasts, latching?

I had to go out of town this weekend without my son. I pumped constantly so that I could keep my supply up, but still kept getting engorged. I now have sore spots in my breasts that feel almost like bruising. Is this normal? What can I do to relieve the soreness?

Also, my son is 6 months old and has 3 teeth. Since he got the 3rd tooth in (top right) his latch seems to have changed. From day one, he has never had an issue with latching. He is not biting or anything like that. It just feels different and uncomfortable, almost a stinging feeling. Will his latch go back to normal, or will my breasts get used to the new latch?

  • Halloween babies (20 characters)?

I know I am super early with this question, but I was wondering... what age did you first take your baby trick-or-treating?

My son will be 7.5 months when Halloween rolls around, so I think we will wait until next year, but we will still be dressing up to hand out candy :-)

  • Baby Baptism in the United Methodist Church?

My family have found a church that we really enjoy. It is very important to my husband and I to raise our children in church, as we were brought up. The only question I have is about the baby baptism. I was raised Southern Baptist, so we did a dedication service and waited until the child was old enough to ask to be baptized. We are attending and more than likely going to join a United Methodist Church.

So my question is, at what age do children get baptized in the UMC? What is the typical process?

  • Leaving 6 month old with Mawmaw for the weekend?

My husband and I are going out of town for a wedding 3 hours away and my mother is going to watch our son who will be 6 months for the weekend. I am starting to get so nervous about leaving him. My mom has 6 kids so I know she knows what she is doing, but I think I am more worried about me emotionally! My mom is incredible and is so good with him. I trust her with everything in me, but I still worry!

How old was your little one the first time you left them with grandma for the weekend? How did your little one handle it? How did you do emotionally?

  • 3 month old putting self to sleep?

I know I should be grateful, but since I have gone back to work, my son has started to put himself to sleep. It started by working from home, I would work and have my son the bouncy beside me and talk to him as I worked. Well, he got in the habit of falling asleep while I worked and taking a morning nap.

Tonight, he kept wanting to nurse, so I nursed him ALL evening just about. Everytime he fell asleep nursing I would put him down and he would wake up as I was putting him down and would start to get grumpy. Well I put him in his bouncy so I could go to the restroom really quickly and when I got back he was dozing off. I left him there and now he is sound asleep.

I work partly at home and part out of home. I feel like he jsut doesn't need me since I went back to work. I just feel neglectful that he puts himself to sleep. Is this something I should worry about or enjoy it while it lasts? Have any of you parents experienced this?

  • Did your baby get gassy after starting TriViSol?

    Hi all,

I started my son on Tri vi sol and he started getting really gassy, his BMs were more greenish and smelled vinegar-ish. I took him off of it for a few days just to see if that was it, sure enough he went back to having normal BMs with little gas. I plan to call the pediatrician tomorrow, but did you guys find the same thing to be true? Also, is there something else I can give him to ensure that he is getting all the vitamins? Not sure if this makes a difference, but he is exclusively breastfed.

  • Mirena or copper IUD?

I just had a baby 9 weeks ago and my doctor and I were discussing birth control options. I was on the pill previously, but because I am breastfeeding, I cannot take the pill I am used to, plus I am forgetful so I do not think the minipill is a good option for me.

My question is which is better...the Mirena or Copper IUD? Do you like the IUD?

I plan to ask my doctor as well, but I was on the pill before because I was skipping periods and my family has a strong history of ovarian cancer (skipping periods can increase chances of ovarian cancer). Did you skip periods on the IUD? Should this be a concern? Like I said I am going to ask my doc as well, I just wanted some opinions. Thanks Everyone!

  • family visiting when baby comes?

I am going into my 32nd week of pregnancy. I have a couple of questions regarding family visiting. My husband and I have a 3 bedroom home, but do not have a guest room or guest bed. We only have a pull out couch. My concern is that both grandmothers will be visiting when the baby is born. They both want to come up for the birth. Which I am grateful for, but I am concerned about sleeping arrangements. They will only be here at the same time for a couple of days.

I talked to my husband and we are thinking of asking both to just get hotel rooms. I don't want to just make one get a hotel room. Do you think this is rude? How would/did you guys handle this?

  • baby shower etiquette?

Hi all. I have a few questions regarding the number of baby showers and etiquette.

I have 4 people throwing different showers. I feel a little greedy, but they are all separate groups and wanted to throw them for the different groups. I.e. work, friends, family, husband's work. I would combine, but the work ones would not combine well. My husband works in a bar and I work in human services. My family lives on the other side of the state from my friends, so there really is no way to combine that one either. I am only inviting personal friends to the friend shower and only family to the family shower, so people do not think I am trying to get gifts out of them.

Also, I read online that I am supposed to give thank you gifts. What are some cute/good ideas for gifts to give the hostesses?

  • what do you think of these names?

We have narrowed down a girl's name and now we need help with figuring out a boy name. I know the stereotypes that names can come with. My name is Ginger, so many people think I am a barbie-doll like bimbo before meeting me. What kind of personality do you think of when you hear these names?

Cayden James - I like this name a lot, but I feel like Cayden is over used now.

Donavan Charles - call him Van. My sister thinks of a frat boy :-)

Let me know if what you think...thanks!

  • Friends changing when pregnant?

I am almost 14 weeks pregnant with our first baby. I am very happy and my husband is beyond excited about this! We have been the first to do pretty much everything in our group...move in together, get married, buy a house, and now have a baby.

So I have always hung out with the guys in our group of friends. Since becoming pregnant, it has become obvious that I am no longer one of the guys. They have started excluding me from more and more. Part of it started when I stopped smoking (When I found out I was pregnant). Then, they started treating me more and more differently. This weekend, We all talked about going to a festival but they all backed out at the last minute. They mentioned that they were getting together at someone's house and it was made clear that I was not invited. At first I felt like I was just being hormonal, but now I do not think so...

I was wondering if this has happened to you other pregnant people out there. I feel like they see me as a freak now. Have you dealt with this? How did you deal with it?

  • hormones in the first trimester?

I am 10 weeks, 5 days pregnant. I feel like my hormones are out of control for the past couple of days. I feel like a 13 year old girl. I have cried and yelled at my husband. I even cussed at him, which I never do in an argument. Once I have calmed down, I know the argument was silly. But during the moment, it seems so important. I think my husband is having trouble understanding because I have no morning sickness and the only real difference is the sleepiness and a little pudge going on.

So my question is... Does this pass? If so, when? How do I help my husband understand that this is a hormone thing. I am thinking that he may not feel like the pregnancy is real yet. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Update...doctor's appointment question?

So I took a FRER Tuesday morning. It was positive. I took the equate this morning and it was FAINTLY positive. Well, I had a doctor's appointment today at 3:00. Doctor said that thier test came up negative, but sent me for a blood serum test. She asked what test I used and I told her. She said that the FRER tests at 20 and the doctor tests at 100, and that she was almost positive I am pregnant. But, I will get the results Thursday morning, but I am still so very nervous. Does anyone have any reassuring words for me or had this happen to them?

  • BFP & Dr's Appt tomorrow?

I got a faint BFP this morning with FMU (using a FRER)!!! Yay! but I tried to test again this afternoon with Equate +/- and it was so faint my husband thought I was crazy and did not beleive me.

I tested again tonight with the equate test and got another FAINT positive.

I know a line is a line....but my question is about the doctor appointment tomorrow. I have an appointment at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. What are the chances that it will show up at the doctor's office tomorrow? I just don't want to get upset it if does not show :-) Did this happen with any of you ladies?

  • Possible BFP?

I took a HPT this morning with FMU. I got a FAINT, faint line. There was definitely color to it. It was a $store test, if that makes a difference to anyone.

I took another this afternoon, because to be honest, I thought it was a fluke and did not want to get too excited (besides its $1). It was BFN....do I just beleive the one from this morning or what do you think? I was supposed to start either Saturday or tomorrow. (Saturday if I go by typical cycle dates and Tuesday based on 14 days after my probable O date).

Hubby and I have been trying for 7 months so I don't want to get my hopes up, but we all know how that is. I just need reassurance at this point.

BTW - will definitely be testing again in the AM

  • EWCM, Semen and OPK?

ok, so DH and I have been trying since December. This past month I decided to try OPKs from Babywishes.com

I have 33-35 day cycles (LMP was May 27th). I have been testing for over a week now, just to see when I ovulate. I have not gotten a positive OPK yet. I have read and reread the instructions to be sure that I am using them correctly.

Today, we had sex. Later today, I had EWCM (based on doing the water test). I decided to do another OPK to see if it was positive yet. Still negative. Am I ovulating or not at this point? All my bodily symptoms say yes, but the strips say no...What do you guys think about this? Are the Babywishes.com strips any good? (yes, I know I should have asked before purchasing :-)

  • A/C cooling question?

I live in a 1300 sq foot house in NC. We are having a heat wave right now (100+ degrees everyday). My thermostat is reading at 85 degrees. The vents are pumping out cold air.

I called an AC guy and he said that there is nothing wrong with the unit if cold air is coming out. He said that the AC units in NC are not equipped to handle this heat.

Does anyone know if this is true?
