How do I keep cigars fresh for a short time?
I bought my dad some very nice cigars for father's day and they arrived very quickly. I want to keep them as fresh as possible, but I do not have a humidor. What is the best way to keep them fresh for a couple of weeks until I give them to him? Or should I just give them as an early gift so they stay fresh and he can put them in his humidor?
3 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoProjection mobile with continuous mode?
Does anyoone know of a projection mobile that plays continuously? My son loves his projection mobile, but I have to go turn it back on a dozen times a night. If I could find one that played all the time I could get some sleep! Thanks!
1 AnswerToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoHow to ease toddler into staying in bed?
For the last 4-6 weeks, my 16-month old has been coming into our bed in the middle of the night. He falls asleep fine in his own bed around 8:15. Between 12:30 and 2 he wakes up screaming and we bring him in our room. We have tried a couple of times letting him cry it out. Sometimes he will fall asleep for another hour and cry again and other times after 2 or 2 1/2 hours of nonstop screaming and crying until he gags, we give in a bring him in our room. What can we do to keep him in his own bed, but not make it so traumatic (especially for mommy!). Has anyone else gone through this? Does the crying get better?! I've tried staying with him until he falls asleep as a no-cry method, but he always wake right up as soon as I step out and the screaming gets even worse. Any suggestions greatly appreicated!
3 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoIdeas for a tattoo to honor my son?
I am looking for a tattoo design to honor my son. I have heard that many tattoo artists are superstitious that name tattoos are bad omens. My son's name is Liam and his name means "helmet" in old German, "strong-willed protector" in German, and "I have a people" in Hebrew. I am looking for a representative tattoo that is a good mix of masculinity for him and femininity for me. I want to put it on the top of my foot. Any suggestions?
2 AnswersTattoos1 decade agoWhy is my cat acting this way?
Today, my 4 year old cat attacked my 1 year old son. Ever since our son has been born, the cat has either tried to stay as far away as possible or has completely ignored him. But now he has tried to attack him 3 times in one day! Nothing has changed. The first time was out of nowhere. The second time, the cat jumped on him in his high chair. the third time he walked by like normal, then just fuzzed up and ran at him. Is it jealousy? Any ideas what's going on?
3 AnswersCats1 decade agoOptions for ineffective epidural?
When my first sone was born, I had an epidual that only took effect mildly on one side, so I still felt everything. However, I managed well and my son was perfect! We are considering another child and the doctor recommended an anesthesia consult before the birth for this baby. I foud out my bottom 4-5 vertebrae are butterflied and probably interfered with the spread of the medication. What are the other options for anesthesia that they could offer? I know I could just not have anything, but I am curious as to what other options they might offer. Any ideas?
3 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoHave any of your babies taken predisolone?
The ped. recently put my 7-month-old son on a 5-day dose of prednisolone for a bad case of bronchiolitis. But he is up all night! I cannot get him to go to sleep even though he falls over as soon as I start rubbing his back. He wakes back up right away. He's not really making up for this lost sleep during the day, still only napping about an hour. Has anyone else noticed extreme sleeplessness in their babies after taking this medicine? He took his last dose yesterday? How long does it take to recover?
1 AnswerNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHow did your kids sleep?
I have a 6 month old son that falls asleep instantly in his swing, but will awake every 15-20 minutes ALL NIGHT in his crib. I don't mind him sleeping in the swing, but he will eventually get too big for it. He has about 6 pounds left before he reaches the weight limit. I'm still uneasy just letting him cry in his crib, but I refuse to let him start sleeping in our bed. I'm not sure if he likes being in the same room with us, if he likes sitting up, or if he likes the swinging. Some nights if he falls asleep with his last bottle, I can lay him in the crib and he will sleep 3-5 hours, but after the first time he wakes up, he will not stay there. I guess my question is....How did your kids sleep? I've heard that some babies just decide that they're ready to sleep in their crib at some point. The Dr. Sears books I've read say that however the whole family sleeps best is the right decision for them, but what to do when he outgrows the swing!???!! Thanks!!!
3 AnswersParenting1 decade agoChanging bedtime routine for 5-month old?
Here is our current routine for our 5 month old: We bounce him to sleep in his bouncy seat between 9 and 10. He gets up around 3 for a small bottle and then falls back to sleep. He then wakes up around 5 am and I put him in his swing where he usually sleeps until between 7:30 and 8:30. I would like to ween him off his nighttime bottle, but he is also getting too big for the swing and the bouncy. Any suggestions has to how to approach this? I thought about laying him down sleepy and checking on him periodically and letting him go at night until he cries for a few minutes. I also considered water-weening at night (slowly replacing formula with water because babies are less likely to wake up for water.) Any suggestions for a nervous First time mom and a little one?
2 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoTaking baby to daycare and I'm thinking crazy thoughts!?
Tomorrow is my first day back to work which means I have to take my 2 month old son to daycare. It's run out of a home by a lady and her mother and 2 of my coworkers have their chidren there. They are wonderful people and they treat these children like their own, and I'm shocked to find myself worrying about this. What if my son gets more attached to them than mommy and daddy? He's going to be with them 8 hrs a day and I'm afraid of being replaced. Has anyone else had this fear? I know I'm being irrational, but I can't help it! Any thoughts?
9 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoA question to all you musical moms!?
Just curious: what songs do you sing to your babies (besides the normal lullabies). I sing Gordon Lightfoot's "Pony Man" to my 2 month old. It's such a cute song about the imagination of children. What different songs do you sing?
10 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agobaby is noisy all night. is this normal?
My 6 week old makes very loud grunting, throat clearing noises, and the occasional squeal all night along with constantly tossing and flailing. He sleeps in his own room, but the sounds through the monitor keep me up all night. He does not do this during the day while sleeping in his bouncy seat, just in the crib. The pediatrician gave him a clean bill of health, but i'm still a concerned first time mom. Is it because he's laying flat? would it be okay to prop one end of the crib up a little? I'm afraid if I let him sleep in the bouncy all the time it will be harder to get him in the crib later. Does anyone else's newborn do this? He is formula fed. Thanks!
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWhat do my cat's strange symptoms mean?
My 3 year-old tabby over the last few months has been losing patches of hair. I didn't know if he was licking it off or if it was falling out. However, over the last few days, he has started developing scabby sores on his head, side, and foot that are about the size of quarters. I also noticed he has been throwing up hairballs as well as green liquid. I'm not sure if he has hot spots and his licking off his hair and making the sores and then throwing up the hair or what...PLEASE help. Any ideas. I don't have the money to take him to the vet unless it's really necessary. Any suggestions?
12 AnswersCats1 decade agoBaby with funny head movement?
Every once in a while my 6-week old does this funny bobbing motion with his head...kinda like the Charlie brown dance where his chin goes back to front and he breathes fast and hard. He's just now starting to get excited about things and smile. Any ideas what he's doing? :-)
1 AnswerNewborn & Baby1 decade agoCould my son be sick?
My 5 week old son cried for 3 hours straight this morning. He has never cried for more than 3-5 minutes at a time. He is eating fine and is not pulling up his knees, does not have a fever, but he is sleeping more than usual now that he's stopped crying. His diapers and gas do smell worse than usual. Could he be sick or is it just the first bad GRUMPY day we've had? :-) thanks!
3 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWhite spot in mouth of baby?
My 5 week old son has a single white spot on the roof of his mouth. He is eating fine and doesn't seem overly fussy, although he doesn't seem to want his pacifier as much. I get mouth ulcers, and it kind of looks like one, but I'm not sure. It's not very big. Any ideas? Thanks!
7 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoDifferences in sleeping habits with different formulas?
I have tried my 1 month old on different formulas to find out which he does best on and which seemed more filling to him. Similac was fine and Infamil seemed to take him longer to drink but had almost the same effect on how full he seemed to be. he got up the same amount of times at night (usually 2). But last night I tried Good start. He drank his bottle at 11 an slept until 3, got up and ate, and didn't get back up until almost 6. Has anyone else noticed a difference in sleeping habits with different formulas? Also, has anyone noticed a difference in liquid vs. powder? Thanks!
