  • Rat with swollen jaw?

My rat, Luna, is about 2 years old. Today I noticed that her the left side of her jaw is swollen. There is no opening as if it was an abscess and it doesn't seem to hurt when I touch it. Any suggestions as to what it could be and if it will go away on it's own, or deserves a vet visit?

  • What do you think about hamster death and children?

I work at a pet store. Last Monday someone brought a hamster back the day after they bought it because it had wet tail. We tried to treat it, but by the time they brought it in, the disease had already progressed. She died that night.

Since it was late when I found her, I left a note for the manager to call the mother and let her know. Friday night, the family, consisting of the mother, her son (~10-11yrs), and her daughter (~6-7yrs), came back to check on how she was doing. I was completely shocked to find that no one had told them yet. (I found out later that the manager had tried calling for two days, but no one answered).

So I said "I'm sorry, I thought someone would have called you by now, . . .but she died." The little girl burst into tears and was inconsolable. She was still crying when they left the store.

So my questions are, do you think 6-7 is old enough to handle pet death? and what would you have said?

  • Just to straighten this out...?

I know most of you already know this, but for those of you who don't. . .

If you want to say "fix" your animal, here's how it goes:

    PRESENT TENSE

    You neuter a male animal.

    You spay a female animal.

Examples: The vet will neuter my cat when he is 6 months old.

You should spay your dog, whether she is around other dogs or not.

    PAST TENSE

    Male animals get neutered.

    Female animals get spayed.

Examples: My dog (male) was neutered yesterday.

My cat (female) was spayed last month.

I'm not an English teacher, but I just want to educate some of you on this subject. I am sick of people saying "get your cat spaded."

    Thank you

  • Ok, I don't want to sound racist or age-ist, but...?

I'm looking for a girl's name. I want it to be semi-unique but not "weird" for a white girl.

I like Annabelle, but some people say is sounds too old-fashioned. Others think it's too long of a name for a kid (to learn to write it, etc). And, I don't want people calling her Annie.

I also like Kyla, but others say it sounds like a ghetto name or is too "weird". I don't want anything too common like Kayla, Kaylie or Katelyn.

    Any suggestions??

  • Should I start seeing a therapist?

I have a problem talking to my mom like a normal person. We will be having a conversation and everything is fine until she makes a face or says one thing and my instinct is to get quiet or not say anything/contribute to the conversation. For some reason I cannot find nice words to say "I don't agree with you" or "why do you think that?" I just don't say anything, then she's like "What's wrong?! Why are you mad now?!" And I either say forget about it and try to move on or say something rude and then we get into a huge fight. My problem is telling her that I think she's wrong or disagreeing with her. She says it's ok if I do, but I just can't do it or at least find a nice way to do it. I automatically jump on her. She just makes me so mad sometimes, but I love her and want to be able to talk like normal people. Also, she just can't let things go. She beats it into the ground and keeps bringing it up. Sorry this is so long, but it's been a problem for years.

  • I need to get a landline phone connection that will only be used for my dial up internet. Needs to be cheap!?

Does anyone know of any providers that will do this for $20 or less/month? I got rid of my cable internet b/c it was too expensive, but if I have to pay ~$10 for internet and $20-40 for a phone line that I will NEVER use except for the internet, then I will just go back (reluctantly).

BTW I live in PA if that helps
