  • Are my violin strings wearing out?

I've had my violin for little under a year now, I've had to replace two strings that broke but today I noticed that to get a G on my D string, my third finger was where it would normally be G sharp ( at least according to the fingerboard stickers that I have ) is this a sign that the strings are starting to wear out? Considering I have had to replace 2 strings already would it just be better for me to replace all four of them?

  • Night soil, dangerous or safe?

Just want to be clear, I'm only asking out of curiosity, I have no intention of using it myself simply because I have no experience with it but I am genuinely curious about it. I've always been told that human waste is an unfit fertilizer, or at best should be used on decorative plants only, not food plants even though I can usually come across literature and movies that make mention of using night soil. I think the Martian is a prime example of it being used in recent media

So has it always been dangerous to use for plants that you would eat? Is the average human diet that bad these days that it's no longer a viable option? Or is it simply one of those things where only experts can safely do it and so it's one of those things that unless otherwise you shouldn't handle it?

  • Eoulf an extra organ in the body account for sensitivity to cold?

OK so I am a transplant patient, namely a pancreas transplant patient who received an additional pancreas, in other words I have two pancreas organs in my body ). Please don't ask me why they left my old organ in there, likely just makes it easier on the patient. In any case ever since I received the organ I have developed a sensitivity to cold. Now before the FDA *** hats jump down my throat and say oh well you really should consult your transplant team already have, they ran their tests, and as far as they're concerned biologically everything is normal and they don't know what is causing this sensitivity to cold. It occurred to me today however, hey I have a second organ in my body that my body has to fill with blood and thus keep warm as well. So i'm wondering, could that be a plausible explanation for my sensitivity to cold? that my body is just spread a little thinner in terms of blood circulation than it was prior to the Transplant or with the body overtime create enough blood to adequately fill the extra organ?

  • Does the zombie genre encourage a have versus have-nots mentality?

Don't give me wrong, I'm huge walking dead fan, I've actually met Max Brooks and have an autographed copy of the zombie survival guide, and I think if the story goes beyond the typical horror element and actually has a good story ( unlike the resident evil movie series… ) I think it can be an epic tool to dive into the survivorit's mentality. One thing I have noticed though, unlike other survivalist films, such as cast away, the Martian, the reverent etc. The genre seems to have a very real, and by its very nature, element of once a person becomes a zombie there is no going back and the newly reanimated corpse wants to do is consume the living to make more zombies ( well you know what I mean). Do you think then buy this a virtue, the zombies genre promotes a have versus have-nots mentality? IE The living still have life that the dead lack and go after everything that is living to take that life.

Furthermore, in not an insignificant number of zombies genre works, we often see human survivors fighting other human survivors rather than working together, which is ironic considering that in most cases the zombie far outnumber the humans and obviously have no need for resources such as food, water, and equipment and so scavenging would not necessarily be all that difficult if the remaining humans came together and cooperation. I'm not being touchy-feely on this Point, the very reason we have civilization is for mutual cooperation to maximize The chances of our individual existence.

  • So... Think Christ smoked weed?

I'm actually being serious and not a smart ***. yes I realize there is absolutely no mention of it one way or the other in the Bible, what is shown is Christ had no objection to potent drink and medicines when the situation called for it (case in point the wedding feast where he performed The water to wine miracle) and given that 2000 years ago people had very diffrent views on many matters including plants of this nature ( Case in point The Roman secret colts are said to have made use of hallucinogenic herbs as part of their sacred rituals). I mean the dim view of cannibus is, historically speaking, the dim view of cannibus is very new thing and only a brief blip on the historic radar that is already been fading for some years now.

So do you atleast think its possible that Christ enjoyed a puff or two?

  • How do I combine audio tracks?

Hey guys, I am trying to put my audiobook collection onto my computer/media hub that I have turned into a pseudo-cloud for personal use. The problem is, when I popped my first audiobook disk into the computer to rip it, I sheepishly forgot that chapters are broken up into 4–5 increment sections to make it easier to find your place in say a car and while that is pretty convenient for when you're driving around, the rest the time he can be pretty annoying. Is there a way to have the computer combine all the audio files on a CD into one big audio file? What's more can I do this with a native ripping program like say windows media player or iTunes ( i'm legally blind, so the less complicated the program the better in terms of user interface ).

  • The Walking Dead: spoilers. Father Gabriel?

Father Gabriel just go crazy in the last episode? I mean in the midseason premiere he seems to finally come to terms with reality and that he took a Judith back to the church for safety and then he in the people there were hiding church went and killed a bunch of walkers when Rick went out. The last weeks episode where he Was quoting Bible verses said by Jesus (not the character) is pretty unsettling. By that I mean Open till that point I would've seen him is taking on more of a point of if you like that of Morgan. Maybe even throw in a little bit of Shepherd book with his solution for shooting kneecaps rather than killing people. I mean his insistence on still wearing his collar, him quoting bible verses to the guy he's going to kill The entire time he's completely calm, think he's completely lost it?

  • What should I use for blood pressure checks?

I'm in transplant patient and have to keep an eye on my blood pressure due to the medication that I am on. Recently I have noticed that the Lower number has a tendency to vary from a few points to up to 10 points between my left and right arms. Now I'm left-handed, and obviously as a consequence I use my left arm for more than my right, I also recall whenever I go to the doctors office they always check my left arm so because I'm a Lefty, should I be checking with my right arm instead?

  • Evangelists, do you really like trump or is it just the media hyping it up?

As someone who grew up in a Christian family, in a conservative community and who went to Christian school from eight grade to graduation, who attended church regularly until a series of events occurred that I don't want to go into I really need to ask. Is what the media is saying true that your denomination is supporting Trump I have to asks it true and if so why? I'm not asking for political satisfaction or anything like that but I want to know why people I used to worship along side with are swinging their support behind a man I truly believe to be the furthest thing from a follower of Christ short of a satanist.

If you truly believe this to be a Christian nation how can you support this man? What is in his message that is speaking to you?

  • The walking Dead: ( spoilers ) is Carol the biggest threat to the group in the series?

If you don't count mercy killings or killing enemy humans, the only two people currently in the group who have killed directly or indirectly are aRick and Carol:

Rick has only killed 1 group member (Shane) whereas carol has killed 6 (3 in season 4 and indirectly in season 6).

In fact, if you include mercy killings (who were still breathing when killed), number only goes up slightly : Rick ( and alexandrite), Carl, (Lori) Daryl (Dale) , Mashoen ( Audrea).

Heck the governor only directly took the lives of 2 ( Merral , Herschel )

Carols first 2 were to prevent the spread of the flu, her third was one of the girls in The Grove (all in season 4) and all SAMs remaining family in season 6 ( indirectly, we hear Sam remembering what Carol said to him back in season five Which caused him to freeze up and attract the walkers ).

She even admitted to considering killing Morgan, Do you guys think she's a "threat from within"? I know in The comics she dies shortly after the taking of the prison so she is more or less at this point in the original character like Darrell but unlike him she's become comparably darker as the show has gone on. Think the writers are working towards something with her?

  • The Walking Dead: no way out (spoilers) was it Carol's fault?

In midseason premiere, no way out, Sam and his family end up being killed and eaten by the walkers when Sam freezes up because he hears Carol's voice in his head describing what she will do to him if he tells anyone what she was doing last season. Do you think if carol hadn't threatened Sam he wouldn't have froze up and attracted the attention of the Walkers?

What's more, because of her attitude, do you think she will get more people killed? she really seems to have started to get cold in season 4, her killing Tyrese's girlfriend, encouraging Rick to give up waiting for the guy when they went foraging And a couple of other cases where she seems cold or unmoved by the situation and ultimately her throat to Sam where, and granted this may have been an act but given how she's been acting the past several seasons I am not entirely certain, her almost gleeful description Of with the walkers will do to Sam, a boy who is probably not much older then Sophia would have been if she survived. Do you think that if she doesn't Change her ways she'll become a threat to the group? If not a enemy a liability?

  • Essential oil for use on other planets?

So my sister is getting into essential oils produced by young living but I haven t paid much attention until recently when she gave me a blend for my muscles after a workout , afterwards or surgeon look into it and take it more seriously.

The couple of days ago she told me how the CEO has a policy of if a badge doesn t meet his quality standard the recycle it as fertilizer and the result is that the plants benefit from this recycling method, being a bit of a gardener ( hydroponically With AeroGardens ) I became curious and found a few interesting bits such as using the oils to detour pests, treating plant diseases and we like but I only found two oils that are claimed to actually Benefits The health of the plant in terms of growing, lavender and lemon grass.

Levander supposed be mixed into soil whereas the lemongrass can be used to help a plant that is in shock recover much faster and even real healthier than before but I was wondering if anyone else knows of a few more oils along these lines as it seems like I can t find much information in the application of essential oil in the garden other than for pest control.

  • Violin A string "nails on chalk board" sound?

My A string is producing a sound literally like the sound of nails on a chalkboard (very scratchy, especially close to the frog) Whenever I hit the D note BUT it sounds fine when it's open. I cleaned the rosin off and it went away a bit but it's still happening, is the string on its way out?

Been a student for 6 months now so I don't know what to look for in a failing string.

  • Was tobacco in the old days dangerous?

A while ago, I read through the unabridged version of Robinson Crusoe . About halfway through, the author details how crew so became sick and used a number of " Home remedies " to cure himself, one of which included throwing tobacco leaves on the fire and breathing in the smoke to cleanse his system.

Now I'm not saying or asking if smoking modern tobacco products is healthy, there's far too much science that proves that tobacco in today's modern form is dangerous but back then could it be considered more of the MedicinalPlants? I mean the poison is in the dosage so if someone smoked old school tobacco would that more help then hinder? I mean it wasn't like they were selling Pre rolled, Marbro style cigarettes at the local hardware shop during the colonial era .

  • Are these self pollinating?

I got the aerogarden hot pepper kit awhile back and all my pepper plants have a ton of flowers now but not a single pepper has started to grow dispite the large number of flowers. I ve typically used an isolating desktop fan to simulate wind for pollen sting strawberries and grape tomatoes but I m not seeing anything with my pepper plants. Do these need to be pollens red by hand?
