  • Go Kart DC motor quesiton?

I am an electrical engineer who is building a go kart. I am solid on the controls but I am struggling to pick a motor. Larger motors are much more expensive than smaller ones. I can buy two 1000 watt motors for less than the price of one 2000w. It also makes the controller easier. My question is what would 2 1000 w motors in parallel do? Would it be equivalent to a 2000 w motor? Could I gear motor 1 high and gear motor 2 low such that motor 2 would take over at higher speeds?

I need help with a digital design.?

I need a circuit that has a 4 bit output. Initially the output would be 1000. When a button is pushed it would be 0100, when a button is pushed it would be 0010 next button press would be 0001 and then then back to 1000. I designed a circuit using a serial to parallel IC. The idea is an invertor would put an initial 1 into the data line and then the output would be fed back into the input. This will work, but I would like a more elegant digital design and I just don't remember how to do it. Any solution and an explanation how you got there would be appreciated.

I have added a delay to the clock to ensure the data is their ahead of the transition.

  • Are cracks in a poured basement wall a problem. The basement is only about 3 years old.?

I have noticed in about 4 spots on my basement walls that the wall has cracked at the seam. The crack goes completely to the outside of the wall but there is no evidence of moisture getting in. I assume this is normal settling of the house, but has anyone else experienced this and maybe found out if it is a problem or not? Had I of had the builder finish my basement I would never have even known they were there.

There is also a white chalky residue in the corners which is evidence moisture is present (although in these cases no cracks are present). I have been told that that is because i don't have a dehumidifier. Anyone have experience with this type of residue?

  • What are the dimensions for the grid under a basement sub floor.?

I want to finish my basement. Every sub floor article I find says to put a support grid down and put the insulation sheets in between it. My question is what are the dimensions of the grid? If it is smaller than 4X8 then the sheets need to be cut down which seems like a lot of work. If it is 4X8 it seems like the floor won't be supported because the plywood is that same size. I can get the basic idea of the grid size of somoene can tell me what I have to cut the insulation into.

  • Micro switch input read?

It seems a pretty common method of reading a switch input is to pull up the input pin with a 10k resistor and to take that 10k to ground through a switch. I see this circuit all over. What I have noticed is that the input pin capacitance causes ringing with the trace inductance. It can be about -2V for about 20ns. Why is this circuit so widely used when it clearly violates the voltage of the input pin.

  • Is this situation considered a raffle?

Is it legal to sell something for more than it is worth and say you will choose one person who purchased the item to get something bigger? I see this happen all the time with small businesses like Gyms. They offer a TV or something like that and anyone that joins between certain dates are entered. This seems like a raffle which would be illegal.

  • Amplifier question for low power consumer electronics.?

I have a speaker that is 8 Ohm, rated at 0.3 Watts and has a frequence response curve that shows it can hit 95dB. The problem is I maybe get 50dB when I hook it up to a 0.4 Watt Amp on 5 Volts. Where am I going wrong?

  • Can (recessed) light issue?

I have recessed lighting. When two of them burnt out (or so I thoguht) the circuit breaker in the panel tripped. I just bought a box of bulbs to change all of the burnt out ones in the house and the two that tripped the breaker won't work with a new bulb. Is it common for those things to break. I know they have a thermal breaker of some sort in them. Can you fix it without going in the attic. I hate to mess with the insulation.

  • How long will a cap stay charged at 24 Volts.?

I asked this once but really didn't get it answered. If I charge a cap to 24 Volts what will the voltage be after 3 minutes. It is a 33uF 35V cap. The datasheet says the leakage current is 3uF or 0.01CV whichver is greater. I can't remember how to calculate this. I have sampled a hundred and the voltage is never less than 22 Volts. I want to calculate a worst case Voltage to show it isn't an issue. I have gone through my circuits books and I can't really find an example of this. Here is the cap. http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs...
