Good evening. I'm 20/m, Australian. After contemplating music related career paths, I'm interested in luthier work, understanding this is more wood work and electronics related that music. However, I have absolutely no leads on research, I can find some books and information online on how to make guitars, but I can't find any courses or education on the trade. I'm looking into job security regarding music, and would like to research more on the trade of guitar construction. Is their any courses or education in Australia that I may persue? Otherwise, what would be the correct way to go about getting a job with a stable guitar manufacturer? Thankyou <3

Good evening. I'm a musician, I'm a graduate from WAAPA in Australia achieving a diploma in contemporary music, playing guitar. My dream job, is releasing my own material, and doing session work for other artists. However, it appears that the music industry is very insecure: 3 of my cousins are music teachers in Perth, and all are fearful of their position at the schools they teach, and teaching so I thought was the most secure job available.

My question is, what are the most secure career options in music to strive for? Otherwise, what are some other music related career options that may be worth considering? Thanks.

Long story short, I own a portable air conditioner unit, which leaked water onto a carpet, which has now made the carpet gone bad because I only became aware of the leak a day later. I've tried carpet shampoo, water, and baby powder to treat the smell, but to no avail.

Could someone please recommend a potential method to of ridding the carpet of this smell? It's been like this for days, I might have to replace it otherwise. Thanks in advance.

I have a university audition coming up in coming weeks, and need a source of backing tracks to practise my 12 bar blues improvisation. For this, I would like to acquire a set of backing tracks that span all 12 possible keys, to prepare myself for any likely situation.

Does anyone know of any good sources where I can acquire these? I'm prepared to spend coin, though if they're avaliable for free, that's great too. Thanks.

I'm currently practicing contemporary and jazz guitar to gain entrance to the arts program at university, but where my playing lacks, is improvisation.

I'd like to record several backing tracks, to strengthen my improvisation, particularly using modes, and switching scales during my solos. I know how to play all 7 basic modes, but I lack the skill to use them in solos.

Does anyone have any recommended sources to backing tracks, or know of any good chord progressions which I can record to practice over? Otherwise, I could always write some myself, I understand how chord theory works, it'll just be good to have some which are more guaranteed to be effective. Thanks.

Though I'm only 19, I've noticed that I hate the start of relationships, as I don't know how often I should be seeing my new found partner. I've been in a relationship with someone for a month now, and we've been seeing each other probably 1 weekday a week, then been together for all of the weekends...

How often do you guys think partners should see each other at the start of relationships? I'm pretty self conscious about this, hoping I'm not smothering her wanting to spend time with her, but also not seeing her way less than I should. I'm pretty comfortable with what I'm seeing of her now as I'm at uni etc, but I think It'll be interesting to know how often you guys think people should be seeing each other at the start, then midway through relationships. Also note: That I had a quick transition from meeting her, to being her friend, to dating her, so I didn't see her so regularly when we were just friends.

I'm after some challenging, but acceptable songs which I could learn and perform for my university audition (WAAPA arts course at ECU in Australia)...

The songs should probably be 3 to 6 minuets long, and should probably contain some challenging run ups, run downs, or what ever. "Shred" kinda stuff is probably more desired, though remembering I'm only trying out for uni, It can't be so difficult that I can't play it...

I'm looking to purchase a camera / camcorder which can record high quality sound. This is going to be used to record band practices, live performances, and musical acts. For this reason, I need only adequate video quality, though very high quality sound.

I'm willing to spend from around $500 to $750 USD. Even if anyone can recommend a good brand, or model series, that would be a good place to start. Thanks.

My aim is to become fitter and gain muscle, though I'm afraid that by running, and physical exercises, I will end up losing a notable amount of weight. I'm 19, 6ft4ish, and weigh 75kg, so I'm not really too eager to lose weight, seeing as I'm sitting at the bottom of an average weight.

How can I become physically stronger, which still gaining the endurance, which I assume you would recieve from running? Are there any dietry techniques or methods I would need to follow to ensure my 4 sessions of 60 minuets a week of weights and running don't go in vein?

Also, any tips on how I can use my time working out optimally would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I often mentally compose some melodies, and riffs in irregular rhythms, making use of offbeats, irregular time signatures, and various lengh beats. Though, I lack the ability to write down these rhythms, and figure out what time Signature some of these rhythms are in,as welll as what note lenghs I'm using. My ability to mentally compose is of greater quality than to put it on paper, which is proving a problem...

My question is, how can I improve my ability to identify rhythms, and how can I know when I'm right when I do try identify this? Can anyone recommend any software orexercisess? Thanks.

Recently I've been feeling slightly insecure about the way I look and feel... I'de like to think I look 'okay', but I', still feeling a bit insecure with my appearence.

I don't usualy put a lot of effort into my appearence, and I've never asked anyone if they think I look good untill now. I'm looking for a relationship in the future, and would like to know what I can do to make myself look better. Obviously working out is an option, but thats one I'm still plucking the motivation to do.

I understand little on DVD regions. I wish to purchase a boxset off of ebay for a gift for a friend, but I'm unaware as to if the DVD would work, or if a US version disk would be incompatible with an Australian region DVD player.

Will this DVD work, what region is AUS dvds in, and what region are US disks in?

I'm looking into purchasing a new guitar, and I've decided for the meantime to get an ESP Eclipse II.

Though, there are 2 models - 1 which has an ebony fretboard, and 1 which has a rosewood fretboard. Aside from that, all other specifications are identicle.

The rosewood fretboard costs $2000 AUD, and the Ebony costs $2500. I understand that rosewood fretboards and ebony fretboards hold different qualities, such as sustain and tone, but so I've heard, ebony fretboards are a better choice.

Can anyone give me input on which guitar I should get?

Here is my situation,

My body is pretty stubbournly locked into a 4am - 1pm sleeping pattern, which is both interupting my general life style, but is also interfering with study.

In 2 days time, I have my English exam, which starts at 9:00am, which right in the middle of the time I would usualy sleep. I need to find a way to get to sleep at 9:30 or 10:00pm, so I can get a decent sleep before the exam. I've gone to bed at 10:30 for the past 3 nights, only to get to sleep by the beginning of sunrise. I've tried natural 'easy sleep' tablets, which have done nothing for me either.

Can anyone recommend a solution? Thanks.

Here is the question.

"What is the equation of the linear line perpendicular to the equation 3y = 5-x, that cuts through the points (-1, -2)".

I understand how to do these questions normally, but the equation 3y = 5-x isn't in a very normalised form, which confuses me as to how I should approach the question. The answer is y=3x+5, though I do not know how to get there.

I'm looking into buying a new guitar, though I'm debating between a few different models of different brands. I'm wondering however, how much of a difference a guitars 'build quality', or craftsmenship, would affect a guitars overall tone and quality.

For the guitar I'm looking at (An ESP phoenix II), there are 2 main models - 1 being an LTD model, and the other an ESP. The LTD is significantly cheaper at 1.2k, and the ESP is 2.8k, though both guitars share the same technical specifications.

How much of a difference would a guitars 'build quality' affect a guitar, despite 2 gutars still having the same specifications? And, Is the extra money being invested necasseraly worth it? Or, is this increased price, simple because it holds the title of an 'ESP' as opposed to an 'LTD'? Thanks.
