  • Peter Jackson-The Hobbit?

I'm geek enough that I'm afraid I'm going to have a hard time waiting for the two installments of the Hobbit in Dec 2012 and Dec 2013. (I'm going to be really pissed if the world does end after all in 2012 before I can see the movies.)

Anyway, I was looking at Peter Jackson's Wikipedia page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Jackson and is it just me or has Sir Peter lost a LOT of weight? Wikipedia has a 2003 photo of him and he looks like a BIG guy that lives in his mother's basement. Then it has a 2009 photo of his and he looks like a much thinner guy that lives in his mother's basement.

  • Don't they teach anything in school nowdays?

    I really don't mean to be rude, but I've seen enough questions on this site like;

Why did the US get involved in WWII

    or

Why did the US get involved in the korean war.

I thought this was basic high school history stuff. I mean it isn't like I expect people to know the gross national product of the confederacy during the civil war.half these kids can't tell you what was happening two weeks ago, forget about what happended in Korea or Germany 60-70 years ago.

I know I'm kind of a history geek or I wouldn't be here. but am I unreasonable to feel this way? Or are the schools as useless as they seem?

  • Death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt?

For those that are old enough to remember, even if you were a young child:

What was your reaction when you heard about the death of President Franklin Roosevelt?

What did you initially think of this unknown little man who suddenly found himself to be President of the United States? (Harry Truman)

Please, I'm not interested in your opinion of the new deal, I don't care if you're a liberal of conservative. Please restrict yourself to answering the two questions.

Answer only if you can remember first hand.

  • Cat tries to nurse on owner?

I have a five-month old cat that suddenly keeps trying to nurse from my belly. I think its a forlorn hope on her part, since I'm a forty-six year old man. It's actually kind of funny except that she keeps clawing at me through m shirt when she does it.

    Two Questions:

    1. Why does she do it? (she didn't do it when she was younger)

    2. How do I make her stop?

  • Scottish and Welsh Parliaments, Irish Assembly?

What are the powers of the Scottish and Welsh parliaments? I know they were established in 1999. Do they and the Northern Ireland assembly exercise powers comparable to the state legislatures in the United States?

I am interested in British history, but most of what I've read is on the history of the government by the king and Parliament in London.
