I was invited to a group when it first started in Oct, 2007. I was a member of the original group for years and the group owner started a new group. I had been receiving mail as of yesterday (1/18/08).

All of a sudden my membership was deleted. I found this today when I clicked on the digest and could not get into the group to read the message from the message archive.

When I reapplied to the group, I got the following document:

Dear Prospective ETP Member,

Congratulations in completing the first step in signing up for the [group]. In order to complete the registration, please send a check (made out to the xxx) for $25.00 (annual membership fee) to: [mailing address]

and complete the profile below and email to [group owner].

[group] Member Profile:

[Misc. data requested]

Is this allowed?

I have been a Owner/Moderator and belong to 50 Yahoo! groups, but this is the first time I've ever had this happen!

System type: Hewlett Packard Compaq Presario M2010US (PX392UA) PC Notebook - battery life is supposed to be 2-3 hours.

If I don't leave the darn thing plugged in, it's toast in minutes. Also, there is no warning prior to hibernation (the settings are 20% warning, 5% Critical warning).

I've asked this question in Desktops, but I'm asking in this forum so I may catch others who can help with my question:

List of problems/actions:

- PC froze up after I heard "clicking noises," had to shut down the system (hard).

- My desktop is and/or Windows won't load in Safe Mode!

- We used a boot-up disk, tried to run chkdsk, process could not finish.

- Took out the drive and tried to copy it (using a slave external drive unit) onto my Maxtor external drive using my laptop.

- The laptop didn't recognize the slaved drive, but I could hear the drive running.

So, it seems to be beyond that point - but I need/want to get my data! Now WHAT?

Notes from another answer "if it is beyond this point there are companies that in most cases recover the data but it is expensive."

How expensive and what is able to be done?

I have made a commitment to foster a teen this summer.

My high-school friend from the midwest is allowing her granddaughter to come and stay with us in NJ, from June 7th until July 11th (approximately).

She is 14 years old, soon to be 15. She is boy crazy and can be a bit of a handful because of it.

We live in a lake community with swimming, a recreation park and some organized activities. But, I want to make sure she has fun and goes home happy.

I'd appreciate any suggestions and/or information on how to keep her busy so she isn't bored! I am currently not working and I have plenty of time on my hands (but little money).

Please, no "child labor" suggestions. Although, I will expect her to help out like she does at home.
