  • Why would a oppsum kill a kitten?

We keep our kittens pinned on a screened in porch and in front of the door way we put a piece of plywood across it to keep the kittens contained, well I went to check the kittens and found a opossum eating out of their food dish well I went back into the house to get my husband and suddenly the opossum attacked a kitten ,the kitten died. I don't why the animal attacked this kitten. The older adult cats were sitting around watching this opossum and it didn't bother them. When my husband went out to get the opossum off the porch it was gone. He thinks the opossum may be living in a box or behind something on the porch and plans when day light comes to clear the porch off to see, but why would it attack this kitten.I am heart broken and feel really guilty that this kitten died. The kittens and the adult cats stay on the porch all the time or they play in our back yard.We live in the country and these cats are strays that we feed and try to take care of. I don't know how we are going to keep the opossum away .

  • How do I tell my daughter and her husband that they need to move out of my house.I worry about her children?

One year ago my daughter and her family moved in with us.They were having money problems. We have a large house and I don't work , so to help them get strightened out we said they could move in and I would take care of their two girls while they work. After one year they are no better off, and I am now in debt for them, I borrowed money for them before they moved in and when they moved in they said they would pay these loans off, but that hasn't happened, and my husband doesn't know that I borrowed money for them and we are making the payments. They buy groceries and help with the utilities, we don't have a mortage payment but we live on social security benefits. Now my husband wants to help them get into a home of their own( to get rid of them) because its has gotten to be to much for us. I can't tell him about the loans, we would end up in a divorce. My health is getting worse due to all the stress and extra work with them living here.I just don't know what to do.

  • Why do I have 27 cats / responce #2?

I am Mary J and I am the crazy cat lady ,as I have been called. I would like to respond to the person talus321. I own 10 acres way out in the country and my nearest neighbor is about 2 miles away. Yes I do spend time with these cats, from feeding, bathing, playing and just plain petting them. Being that I am mostly home bound these cats and I have a great relationship with one another. And I do agree that anymore would make it more time consuming and would allow less time for the ones that are here now, but all I asked for was information from anyone who might know what kind of help is out there to help with fixing them.As far as the lady with 30 cats in her house, My house has 3000 sq. ft. and only my husband and I live here, also my home is so clean and tidy that our guest remark that our home is like a hotel. I am not worried about the house or anyone complaining.I also carry a million dollar umbrella insurance policy on my home for exactly the reasons you mention, I am not stupid.

  • Why do I have 27 cats?

This is a responce to Daniella, I didn't want 27 cats, but what do you do when other people just dump them out and these cats find you. I can't afford these cats because I am disabled and live on a fixed income. Would you just let them starve? As it is I do without things I need so they can eat, I pay any where from $50.00 to $100.00 a month in vet bills.I just can't throw them away like there original owners. Could you?

  • What agencies help with the cost of getting your cat fixed?

I am disabled and can't afford to have these cats fixed. I live on a fixed income. These cats were drop offs there are now 9 adults and 12 new babies. I have 6 cats of my own and they have been fixed. But they are also old, ranging from 4yrs. to 15 yrs.I have a hard enough time feeding all of them, but I can't let them go hungry and I live out in the country so they live in my yard, under my house and on my porch.I live in the south where it really doesn't get to cold, on colder nights I let them in the house. Now that its warm here(South Carolina)they come in and out all the time. The new moms have cat houses for them and their babies on my closed in screened porch.I really need help with getting them fixed so that this circle of life ends. I'm afraid they will start cross breeding. They all have names and I love them all, this started when someone dropped off 2 momma cats that had their babies within a week or so of there drop off.I now have 27 , can anyone help?
