  • How to remove the colour on dog tags?

My dog just got a new city license and they've chosen a pink colour for this year's tag. He also has a yellow rabies tag. Does anyone know what might remove the colour without removing the engraving? I've tried nail polish remover, but it didn't work.

  • Best Shampoo - Brindle Bull Terrier?

I'm wondering what the best shampoo would be for a solid brindle Bull Terrier? Would a bronze coat shampoo be the best to bring out his colour? He's not sensitive to shampoo and I'd like him to have a nice shine after a bath. Any suggestions?

  • Interdigital Cysts or something else?

My Bull Terrier was recently at the vet for what we thought was a foreign body abscess between two of his toes. When the vet saw him, she said "Oh, this looks like more than an interdigital cyst," but then decided to treat him for an interdigital cyst. She thought that it may have been caused by an irritation to salt on the sidewalks. He's on prednisone and Cephalexin to try and get rid of it and we see the vet again on Tuesday.

When I came home, I started looking up interdigital cysts and I'm questioning the diagnosis. It's not painful or reddish-purple. He actually doesn't seem irritated by it at all. It's not rock hard, but it's also not soft the way that a blister is.

Does anyone have experience with interdigital cysts? There's a picture of his toe below. I'm not sure if I should get a second opinion or wait to see if it resolves over the next few weeks. http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq176/laurene6/...

    Thanks

  • Adding food colouring to cake frosting?

I'm baking 2 cakes that I'm going to carve into dogs for a friend's birthday. I would like to use store bought Betty Crocker icing to save time.

The one dog is a Rottweiler so I will need to figure out how to do black and tan colours.

The second dog is a solid tan. Here's a picture of his coat colour.

    http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq176/laurene6/...

Any ideas for which icing flavour (vanilla or chocolate) to choose and which colours to use?

  • roundworms passing from dog to human?

I live in a house with a woman who fosters dogs. One of the dogs had roundworms and I'm worried about them transferring to me. She cleans up after the dogs immediately, but I still worry about the risk of it being on their feet, tracked into the house, on furniture, etc. The dog has been dewormed, but what kind of risk is there in me getting them. My biggest worry is with the dog that sleeps in my bed. She plays with her hands and 2 weeks ago, she pawed at my mouth and part of her paw touched my gums. Would the eggs be able to hold on from the time she came inside, went upstairs, and jumped on my bed? I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid, but the whole thought of roundworms is disgusting.

Asking in the dog section because I figure you guys probably have more experience with roundworms.

  • What dog breed is this?

I saw this dog at an event and couldn't figure out what it was. I wasn't close enough to ask the owner. They had 2 of them that were identical. Anyone know if this is a purebred?

  • dog ate condom, passed it, but is still not normal?

Last Saturday, my dog got up in the night with diarrhea. I thought it was the table scraps that my mom had given him so I didn't think anything of it. He continued with the diarrhea, but acted completely normal otherwise. We started giving him rice and pumpkin to calm his stomach, but the diarrhea continued. On Wednesday, my mom found a condom in his diarrhea. She continued to feed him the rice and pumpkin and he had a stool that was more formed on Wednesday night. On Thursday, he vomited once and has yet to poop. He is acting normal otherwise.

Is it normal for a dog to stop pooping after they have passed something or should I be concerned about another blockage? He never bothers with garbage, but my brother's garbage also contains kleenex and I'm concerned he may have ingested that as well.

I'm thinking that some x-rays are the best option right now to be sure.

    Thanks

  • Dog chewing back feet when I go to shower?

My Bull Terrier chews his back foot when I go to shower. I believe it's an OCD issue because he only chews or licks them when I go to shower. He will become obsessed and won't even stop when they are bleeding. The saliva dries on his fur and makes his feet very dry. I flaked off the dried saliva a few times and that seems to stop the chewing for a couple days, but then he starts again. Anyone have any ideas?

If it's a dry skin issue, is there a lotion that I can put on his feet that isn't harmful if he licks?

Next step is putting a cone on him while I'm in the shower.

I don't think that it's allergies because he doesn't try to lick at any other time. We feed him homemade food and Taste of the Wild.

    Thanks

  • New dog (deaf) snapping at first dog?

We just adopted a new dog yesterday. They both met outside of her foster home and went for a walk. The girl that we adopted is a 3 year old deaf Bull Terrier and we currently have a hearing 7 year old male Bull Terrier. They were great yesterday and she wouldn't leave him alone. Anywhere he was, she wanted to be right beside him. She was fine today too, but she snapped at him a few times tonight.

The first time, my mom had the cupboard open and she went in so I pulled her out by her collar. While holding her back, Tazz came up to say "hi" and she snapped at his face.

Then my brother came home and they both ran to say "hi". They were both getting attention and fine, but then she snapped at him again. I put her back in her crate both times and she stayed there for about 20-30 minutes.

I then took her out on leash and she went after him again when he came around the kitchen island. He told her off that time, but she didn't seem to understand it. I was watching her the whole time and her tail was between her legs, but she had a very dominant stance. I was trying to understand why she did it, but I'm still unclear. It could be the fact that we were restraining her and Tazz was free. Tazz is exhausted from all the excitement, but is generally staying away from her. He will gently go up to her to say "hi", but he's too tired to deal with her hyper energy right now. For the most part, she has been cuddling with him and can't get close enough to him.

If you have any tips on helping to make the adjustment smoother, it would be greatly appreciated. Obviously Tazz comes first, but we are going to give her a fair chance. She hasn't bitten him, but she snapped at his face and continued to be really intense with him until she went back in her crate.

  • Buying a Lens for a Canon Rebel XT?

Hi, I'm very much a beginner with SLR cameras, but I'd like to get more use out of mine. I mainly take pictures of my dog and his friends running outdoors. When we bought the Canon Rebel XT it came with the 18-55mm lens. I found a used Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM that is barely used for $100. It also includes a protective filter that is attached to the end of the camera. It sounds like a good deal, but would it be useful for what I use my camera for?

Also, if you could give me any tips on how to take better pictures of my dog running, that would be great.

    thanks

  • Panasonic 42" Plasma with Bell Expressvu cutting off image?

I have a Panasonic TCP42-S1 hooked up to a Bell Expressvu HD box. Since we've hooked it up, it cuts off the image in both 4:3 and 16:9. The TV is set to full and when I contacted Panasonic, they told me that it was a problem with the satellite box. It looks as though the TV is zoomed in, but I can't find any settings for this. If you know how to fix this, please let me know. Thanks

  • Macbook battery replacement?

I have a Macbook that I purchased in August 2008 so it's just out of warranty. The condition of my battery says "replace soon". Is this normal in a year old computer? I don't really want to spend $150 on a new battery when it's only a year old. I haven't noticed a significant change in the battery life. It's lasting about 3-3.5 hours on a charge.

  • Backing up Macbook using Lacie hard disk?

I'm trying to back up my Macbook so that I can install Snow Leopard. I plugged it into the hard disk and the hard disk came up on my desktop. I opened the window and dragged my "Macintosh HD" folder into it. I then disconnected and reconnected to make sure it was still there.

Is that all I need to do to back up my computer? I've never done it before so I'm a little worried and don't want to lose everything. Also, will I need to transfer everything back once I've installed Leopard?

  • Police procedure for murder/suicide?

I live in a quiet neighbourhood and there was a crime today. When I came home, there were about 4-5 police cars around a house down the street. The house was taped off with police tape and there were detectives there. The detectives were not there for very long. An elderly couple live there with their adult son who is mentally disabled. The only person that the police talked to was the next door neighbour.

Our thought is that it was a murder/suicide and that the neighbour was talked to because he heard something. Is that the typical procedure that police take for a murder/suicide?

  • 3 tire pressure gauges, 3 different readings?

    Analog gauge #1 - 37 PSI

    Analog gauge #2 - 41 PSI

    Built-in gas station gauge - 33 PSI

I first check my tire pressure with a cheap analog gauge and it said that I was at 31 PSI in one tire. My car recommends 33 PSI so I stopped by the gas station to fill it up. With each gauge, the readings are consistent on all 4 tires.

So, I'm wondering how accurate the gauge at the gas station was? The analog gauges don't have any resistance and pop out easily, which leads me to believe that the gas station would be more accurate. How can I accurately check my tire pressure?

  • Ideas for a pet rescue fundraiser?

I am volunteering with a small dog rescue group and they would like me to organize an event for them. It will be in February and they would like the theme to be Pawdi Gras (a dog version of Mardi Gras). We are in Southern Ontario and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a location? It doesn't have to be specific, but what types of locations are more likely to allow dogs at a reasonable price? It will have to be indoors. This is the first event that I will be planning so if you have any other ideas, it would be greatly appreciated. Should there be a entry fee or just donations? Are 50/50 tickets a good idea? I want to collect items from local pet shops and put prizes together for a raffle and the best dressed dog. Thanks.

  • Fentanyl pain patch for dogs?

My dog had surgery last week and they used a Fentanyl pain patch on him. This means that they shaved down his side, placed the patch on and it was on for 4 days. After taking it off, there was a leftover residue that looks like glue on his skin. It's slightly red, but doesn't seem to bother him. I've wiped it down with a damp cloth and the residue is still there.

Has anyone had their dog wear one of these patches? Did they have a similar reaction to it? How long did it take for the residue and redness to go away?

  • Why would a restaurant say that the cash value of a coupon is 1/20th of one cent?

I was looking at a coupon and it said that the cash value is 1/20th of a cent. Most places claim no cash value with coupons so I'm curious to know why would they list this price. Could you actually claim a cash value when it is impossible to produce?
