  • Buying a car, then not registering?

I will be buying a used car from a private party this week. I don't plan on registering it right away, is this okay? Do I have to register the car, or can I just keep in parked and then register it when I need it? I will be meeting with the seller, paying cash, he will sign title over to me, we will sign bill of sale. I will drive it home and leave it for a while. No insurance, no registration. Do I have to stop by the DMV first though to complete the title transfer? Also, I will more than likely be shipping this car with me when I move in the next few months. What do I need to know about shipping and then registering in another state?

  • looking for new tech blog....?

Any recommendations for a tech blog? I used to read gizmodo back in the day, but now it's completely changed, all social stuff like Facebook "tips", apple ****, lifehacker stuff like making jello shots, stuff like that, NOT real tech news. I want something that talks about new technology, like the latest SSDs, video cards, O/S updates, hard core tech stuff like that...

  • 60 mm lens, ND filter, lenses in general?

When a lens says that it is 60 mm, is this the diameter of the lens?

I am wondering because how do you pick a polarizer, or a ND filter for a particular lens, so that you can screw it in and it fits. are all lenses the same diameter, or do you have to buy a filter for each lens?

  • In-camera light meter (super 8) how to use?

I have this old Prinz super 8 film camera. It has a light meter built in that you see through the lens. How does it work? There are new batteries and the needle changes when light changes, so I think it works fine.

    This is what I see:

    http://tinypic.com/r/5ugvhs/6

When it's on auto, and I move around to different light, the needle changes. In the picture, the "needle" is black and on the far right in the red zone, not the down arrow pointing in-between 5.6 and 2.8. The arrow has never moved before. When in manual, I can change the needle even without batteries. What are these two indicators? And how do you use them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • What's the fastest SSD out there (2.5")?

I am looking for a new SSD, 2.5" form factor, maybe around 120GB (no more), and that has a really fast 4KB random read/write speed, and high max read/write speed.

  • SSD Upgrade help, choosing the right one?

I want to upgrade my Macbook pro 13" (2011) to a SSD. I need some help deciding which one to buy. If I understand correctly, all 2.5" SSDs should fit/be compatible with the mbp. I don't need a large capacity drive, I'd rather spend the money on speed. Is 33k IOPS fast? I was looking at the Intel 330 series, they seem pretty cheap, but still good. My budget is under $200. I only need like 80GB.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Also, when upgrading, here is my plan to go about it:

just swap the drives, and then boot the lion os install (I have it on another external drive), then format the new SSD in Disk Utility, and finally install os x. Sound good? Don't worry about backing stuff up, that's all covered already.

  • Car Inspection and interstate travel?

The car I am driving has it's inspection done in new York. It expires today, but I am staying in the state of Colorado for a while. What do I do about the inspection? I don't have to drive back to new York to get it done, right?

  • Infinite series converge/diverge?

sum n!/(n+2)! from 1 to infinity.

I did the ratio test, but it was inconclusive since it equaled 1.

    What do I do next?

  • Radius of convergence for this power series?

I'm not really sure how to approach this. Should I try to convert the given information into a closed-form series representation (and then apply the ratio test), or is there a way to apply the ratio test to this open form (this is what was given):

    x + 4x^2 + 8x^3 + 16x^4 + 32x^5 + . . .

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Audio levels faders, sound?

I was wondering what the best configuration is to get the best sound. There are so many volume controls, but I don't know what the best way to arrange them is.

    Let me explain.

I do some recording with my computer with a firewire audio interface. Here are all the volume controls:

Say I am recording my bass guitar, this is how it goes: first, there is the volume control on the bass itself, then there is the input gain (-10-70dB) on the recording interface, then the gain control within the recording application, then the master output from the mixer in the software, then the application output gain, then the computer volume control, then the audio interface output gain control, and finally the output volume on my speakers.

I think I heard that it is better to record with the lowest possible gain on the input, but I'm not really sure.

    If anyone can help, thanks.

  • Physics Question (constant acceleration)?

To save fuel, some truck drivers try to maintain a constant speed when possible. A truck traveling at 90.0 km/hr approaches a car stopped at the red light. When the truck is 131.1 meters from the car the light turns green and the car immediately begins to accelerate at 2.50 m/s2 to a final speed of 91.0 km/hr. How close does the truck come to the car assuming the truck does not slow down?

    Answer: 6.10E+00 m

  • Question on car insurance and speeding ticket?

I was driving my friend's car and got a speeding ticket with 4 points (later reduced to 2 points). I didn't have my friend's insurance or my insurance in the car, but the officer let that one go. The car was from another state, and my license was from a third state. How will this affect the insurance rate? Also, I am under 21 and do not have my own insurance (I am under my parent's insurance) Additionally, is it possible that this could affect my friend's insurance rate?

    Thanks for the help.

  • Question about vinylS released today?

Long after the CD and mp3s replaced vinyls, today's artists are still releasing a few albums available on vinyl.

My question is this: do modern day recording studios still record in analog? If they have all switched to digital recording, then wouldn't a vinyl format release be unproductive since its source is digital opposed to analog? Everyone knows analog recordings have a special sound quality to them, and that vinyl is the best way to reproduce that sound.

For example, pop star Taylor Swift has recently released her new album, "Speak Now" on both CD and vinyl. If the album was recorded digitally, then the vinyl release seems like a ploy to lure recent pseudo vinyl enthusiast.

  • Name of Old-School Computer Game?

I remember playing this computer game way back when i was really little (that was the 90s for me). I can't remember the name, but I remember you were a little triangle and you would be going around shooting other little triangles/shapes, and sometimes you would come across a bigger/badder one, and he would say, "HELLO-MAN!"

Anyway, that's what we called it,"helloman", but I couldn't find anything on it.

    Anybody??

It was on a black screen, probably supposed to be in space or something, really basic game....
