  • Good political science ph.d programs in USA in continental political theorists?

Particularly, I'm interested in French theorists like Deleuze, Derrida and Foucault in the post-structuralist strain, but programs with broaders focuses are fine.

In terms of particular topics, I'm interested in sovereignty, biopolitics, intersection between politics and technology, and authoritarianism.

I all ready know about Hawaii, Northwestern, and John Hopkins that all have some pretty good faculty in these areas. But I'd like to know about some others! Cheers for all your help.

  • Ph.D in Political Philosophy and teach Political Science?

I'm doing my masters in social and political thought right now. The idea is to be a professor of political theory. So the logical step would be to do a ph.d in political science and specialize in poli theory.

However, political theory is very closely related to political philosophy. There is a GREAT Philosophy doctorate program at the University of Guelph, which is a pretty good school, in continental social and political philosophy- the stuff I am in to!

My concern is if the trade off between a philosophy and political science degree would be too great, and if this would prevent me from being a part of a political science faculty at a university, as I would not have my ph.d in poli sci.

  • I'm not sure I understand the differenc between nuclear medicine and radiology?

I understand that nuclear medicine is a tool used by radiologist, and just one of many. However I also know that there is a medical specialty for nuclear medicine, and I think it can be a sub-specialty of radiology. However, if radioligists are trained to perform nuclear medicine procedures, what is the benefit of a nuclear medicine specialty? What do they do that radiologists cannot do?

  • An Open letter to people on yahoo answers politics?

Please don't post political commentary here. you are, of course, allowed to follow the news, think about it, and have opinions. That's quite good actually. However, this isn't the place to post about it. This is a place for genuine and legitimate questions about politics. It is especially in vain because you are not going to convince anyone on yahoo answers... because people don't come on yahoo answers for political commentary anyways.

Please don't post it here. It is not doing any good, just fueling vain arguments, and mucking up the politics section.

    Thanks.

  • Can someone explain the premise of short wave radio to me?

I'm Canadian, and up until recently we had Radio Canada International. They are closing down a huge transistor station not to far from where I live. RCI broadcasted using short wave radio.

And that's what I don't get. If in the past I had wanted to listen to this station, would it have been on the AM frequency? How do you pick up the station? I also don't understand how they were able to broadcast this far, because I know they would broadcast across to Europe to report the news there when it was repressive

  • Best martial arts to learn?

    Here are my criteria.

    1. Nothing to stereotypical. By that I mean, not Karate or Tae Kwan Do. I realize there is probably a reason why these styles are the most common. I did karate as a kid (granted I've forgotten it). I'm looking to try something new.

    2. Getting a good workout from the training would be nice.

    3. I realize some newer styles put more emphasis on the "martial" then the "arts" aspect of it. I'd like one that puts more emphasis on arts I think. :p

Let me know if there is more info needed, and I will edit and put it.

  • Removing penile hair?

I have hair on the shaft of my penis. It's not course and causing any issues really, I just want to get rid of it for cosmetic reasons and as a courtesy to sexual partners who perform oral on me. Shaving it is getting to be a real pain, tweezing is incredibly time consuming and painful - and after having done it once the hair has grown back in only a few months! - and products like nair would hurt like the dickens.

So what should I do? Is there any solution or do I need to accept that I am going to live my life with a hairy schlong?

  • How do I decrease ppi in Gimp?

I can't find any information on how to do this.

I have a 300 ppi image. I need to save a copy of it that is 72 ppi. This is for a school project so it absolutely has to be done; I can't not do it, or do something else. Very strict that it has to be 72 ppi, this copy.

  • Which country in the Balkans is the best to visit?

By "best," I am considering the following criteria. Sights to see- is there anything worth seeing and doing for a foreigner? Safety- is it safe? People- Are they nice? Food- is it good? Price- is it worth the money? Anything else I need to know? Will I be able to communicate with the people easily? I speak English and French.

Greece seems to me to be "the top" choice of balkan countries. I'm not really interested in Greece. Greece has it's own, unique culture (which I am not hating on, I want to go there too). But I'm looking for a country that has the authentic Balkan experience.

  • Who is further left on the political spectrum, Labour or Liberal-Democrats in UK?

The title is pretty self explanatory. I'm Canadian. I'm assuming the Conservatives in the UK are equivalent to our Conservative party, lol. As for Labour and Lib-Dem, I am not quite sure where they would line up. The name would suggest that Labour would be further left than the Lib-Dem, to me anyways, but I don't think this is true, esp because of Blair and the Third Way. I can't seem to find a concrete answer as to which is further left.

P.S For a bonus you can tell me what you think about the parties and the leaders. But please, please PLEASE also answer the question and tell me which is further left.

  • Windows Media Player Error when playing downloaded videos?

Like the question says, When I try and play downloaded videos in Windows Media Player, no dice. I get this error message.

"Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct."

Well, I'm not opening the files in another program. I do have access to the files and tried editing permission. I think my proxy settings are fine. Any ideas as to what is wrong and, more importantly, how to fix it?

  • Is Ottawa a fun city to live in for a young person?

So, I know that Ottawa is a very beautiful city. And I know that it has many of the features of a big city like Toronto or Montreal. And I know that it boasts good features like a low crime rate.

However, is it a fun city to live in for a young person? I overheard a cousin of mine say that Ottawa is a boring city. Actually, what exactly he said is it's fun if you want to see The Trews a thousand times. Is there alot of fun stuff to do for a young person who doesnt' particularly like The Trews?

  • how much weight does cubed steak loose when cooked?

I'm on Weight Watchers, so I have a system for watching what I eat. here is the thing. I am cooking a recipe that requires cubed steak. Ok, perfect. Problem is, in calculating it, I have to use the weight it will be cooked, not raw. And I don't want to end up cooking too much. For the record, I have about 2 pounds of cubed steak (it's not all for 1 meal, and I don't have to use it all, lol). Anyhow, I went to end up with about 1 and a half pounds when cooked. So, how much should I use? Does it change weight at all?

I should note, that the steak is not frozen. It is raw, and just needs to be cooked.

Don't be hating and telling me red meat is bad for you. I don't eat red meat alot and this is lean steak. That's not the issue.

    Ok thanks!

  • Worst countries for child exploitation?

I have to write a paper on the international human rights system and how it fails to protect a certain group, such as prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, gays and lesbians in Iraq, etc. I thought a good subject might be children in a country where they are exploited in the production of clothing.

Bangladesh comes to mind, and it may end up being a good choice and what I write on, but was wondering if anyone can suggest some other countries too I could consider.

  • Can one live in London comfortable on 20 pounds an hour full time?

I'm interested in working in the UK as an urban planner and much to my dismay (but not surprise), most of the jobs are in London. Most of these jobs are paying 20-25 pounds an hour. I know that this is generally a very good salary, but I also know that London is an incredibly expensive place to live in. So my question is, can one actually live in London comfortably on this salary?

  • What's a good website or source for Canadian political news?

Can someone recommend one? I'm finding that my local news isn't giving me enough information about the goings on in Canadian federal politics and provincial politics outside of the maritimes. It is chiefly federal that I am interested in, though.
