  • Do you thumbs-down if you disagree with the answer?

I'm starting to rate answers based on whether or not I agree with the answer as a whole. The process is getting kind of polarized, and I feel a little guilty about it.

What's your process for rating answers on the Politics category?

  • How much to charge for tutoring?

Hey, so I've got a tutoring offer, and I'm not too sure how much to charge.

It's tutoring algebra and physics for a 10th grader after school twice a week.

The travel time is about 30 minutes by bus, and I have to pay for the bus fare.

I've tutored before, but not for money. My credentials look very good (3.9 uwgpa, 10 APs)

To give an idea of the price range in the area, one of my friends tutors a 7th grader for $12/hr, but another friend has gone up to $30/hr.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Does this woman still have to pay her fines?

I was watching the local evening news, and there was a news report about a DMV clerk who was arrested for accepting money in return for clearing the person's fines. (For example, Joe goes in with a traffic ticket for 1000 dollars, and the clerk offers to clear the ticket in exchange for 300 dollars)

The clerk was eventually busted when a woman notified police that this clerk offered to clear her fine of $2000 in exchange for $600.

My question is if this woman still had to pay the $2000 dollar fine? And from a bigger perspective, are there legal incentives for people to report cases like this?

  • What history courses are taught in Chinese high schools?

Hi, just looking for a little background for a project I'm currently working on.

What are some of the history courses taught in high schools in China? Is there a world history course, or is it just Asian history?

    -Thanks in advance

  • Should I resubscribe to World of Warcraft?

I'm in a little bit of a pickle about resubbing to WoW...

Finals are pretty much done, and I've got a month of break before my summer internship starts.

Originally, I had planned to resub when Cataclysm (the expansion) came out, but now I want to play again.

If I start, the main goal is to hit a Duelist/Gladiator(lol) title before the end of the arena season.

So what do you think? Is WoW right now worth resubscribing before Cata comes out?

  • What's wrong with European Union/Greece?

Been trying to wrap around this Greece economic crisis thing.

This is as far as I can understand...

    Greece about to fail.

    EU saves Greece.

World freaks about EU saving Greece (including EU)

    Economy goes down.

So, can anyone explain this in a more detailed or more sophisticated manner? Or correct me if I'm wrong.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Banning rhetorical questions?

Just wondering about the community's opinion on this

How many of you would rather not have rhetorical questions on Yahoo answers?

    Wikipedia:

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question posed for its persuasive effect without the expectation of a reply (ex: "Why me?") Rhetorical questions encourage the listener to think about what the (often obvious) answer to the question must be.

    Explain as well, please

    All 2c appreciated.

  • What's the most difficult book you have ever read?

Either the most complex, lengthy, deep philosophical, etc.

State the name, age you read it at, and reason why.

    Thanks!

  • Public or Private Colleges?

Just trying to get a lil opinion on these subjects...

So let's say that you are applying to college, and get into a mid-level private college, something like University of the Pacific or Boston University...

You apply to the local state college as well, which is considered one of the best in its bracket. Let's use SJSU or SFSU as an example...

And you get into UC Merced and Riverside.

Now let's assume that there is no financial aid.

Where would you go, and why?

    All 2c appreciated.

  • Why do the questions here get so many responses?

Some of those other sections get one answer every two days...

Like that section on Santa Claus Garden Gnomes hidden way back in the archives; even Yahoo doesn't know that one exists.

  • SAT score: Do tier 1 colleges take best scores or average out?

Hey, so I'm in a little dilemma about SAT scores right now,

I've heard that most colleges take your personal best SAT scores for applications, but I also know that some colleges take a "super score" and a select few take the average of all your tests.

Does anyone know which colleges do what? Mainly interested in the upper-level colleges, Harvard Yale Princeton Stanford MIT Caltech etc.

Any information appreciated, thanks in advance
