Black screen issue: Why does one monitor go to black screen on my dual DVI monitor PC?
I don't completely understand the capabilities of my system so I did like I have always done. I went out and bought a graphics card in hopes of the best performance I could get for the money I could spend.
I purchased an Nvidia GeForce GT 610 GPU whose drivers are up to date. Yes, it is a cheap, low-end card but I thought I could ease some of the system resources since the card has dedicated RAM.
I have had the card installed and in use for several weeks and am not at all impressed. In fact, I can't help but wonder if the onboard APU is better?
Turned my PC on last night and everything was normal. I logged into my system and that's when the secondary monitor went black. I turned off, waited a fw seconds, and my desktop was back...for about 3 seconds!
I was going to remove it and use the integrated graphics but unlike my older computers, I didn't have video just by removing the GPU card. So I put the messed up card back in so I could use at least one monitor to try to fix my issue.
Well guess what happened? After removing and reinserting the card, I have both monitors again and they work normally!
Why would this happen?
PC Info:
Gateway DX4380G 64-bit Windows 8.1
Processor: AMD A6-5400K APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 3600 Mhz, 1 Core(s) 2 Logical processors.
1TB HDD
6GB DDR3 RAM
HDMI & VGA ports
650Watt PSU
Thank You!
Monitors7 years agoMy PC manufacturer says Multi-monitor support with Windows 7*. How is this possible with HDMI & VGA Ports?
I have a Gateway DX4850 - 27e Desktop PC. In the specs it claims that this computer supports dual monitors but, I have only one VGA and one HDMI video port.
It's a Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit OS. Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Processor Intel HD Graphics, Intel H64 Chipset.
Can anyone explain to me how or if it is possible to have a dual monitor set-up without having to buy a splitter?
Thanks!
1 AnswerDesktops7 years agoSo,,,What kind of messed up error codes or messages are yu getting when trying to access Yahoo Mail today?
Hi, I am having an issue with YM that I have never seen before. I tried accessing my mail from the Yahoo home page on IE & Chrome.
I started with my default browser, IE. First I tried using the link in the in the column on the left of the home page, then by using the link at the bottom of the mail preview drop down at the top right of the Y home page.
Here is the result I get after several seconds of attempting to connect:
Oops! Internet Explorer could not connect to edit.yahoo.com Did you mean "yahoo.com"
Here is the result I get in Google Chrome:
The document has moved <A HREF="https://login.yahoo.com/config/login%22%3Ehere%3C/...
I like YM and I prefer it over all others. It is free, it has always been, in my opinion, the easiest to understand and navigate and I appreciate all of that but, the problems I have been having with Yahoo Mail have been more abundant and frequent.
For instance, I have been getting a lot of spam in my inbox. I am talking spam that I get all the time that use to go into my spam folder! Also, I have been getting spam emails from myself! I change my password, sign-in seal, etc.. quite frequently. In fact, at the first sign of anything I consider to be out of the ordinary, I change as much as I can to prevent hacking into my email!
Is it just me, or are there more of you with the same or similar problems?
Please yahoo...Fix YM so I don't have to switch!
3 AnswersOther - Yahoo Mail7 years agoWhy won't DVD drive on my PC eject unless there is a disc inside?
I haven't used the optical drive in my PC for at least 8 months or even more. Today I tried opening it and nothing! I couldn't open it with the button directly on the drive or in Windows. I finally used a paperclip to trip the lock mechanism.
After that it would eject but went back in so fast that I couldn't get a disc in it! I finally just grabbed the tray and held it open so I could put a music CD in it. The CD played normally so I opened the tray with the eject button, removed the CD, and it wouldn't open again unless I tripped the mechanism with a paperclip.
I have an HP Slimline s5123w NY469A. The optical drive on a Slimline sits vertically and I got sick of having to hold discs in until the door closed, so I laid it on its side.
I went through every troubleshooting step on the HP support website.
Thanks for any help y'all can give me!
3 AnswersDesktops7 years agoHow Can I Be Sure That My Custom Built Desktop Is Performing Working Properly?
I had a 2008 HP a6554f desktop PC with, Windows 7 Pro (which I miss), 7gb RAM, Q6600 Quad processor and Nvidia GeForce 430GT pci-e graphics. It performed well and served me well from the day I bought it new. But due partially to it's age and partially to an offer I couldn't refuse, I got a this Custom Built Windows gaming desktop.
Here's the thing...I don't notice any difference in speed or performance and, even with all of its "hot rod" components, I still get a high CPU warning (90%) for something called, "wudfhost.exe" .
I would like some advice on how to get the best possible performance and reliability from this monster I call, "Big Blue" because of the blue LED lights inside.
I guess basically what I am saying is, I do not fully understand how to be sure I have everything set right, installed correctly, etc...
So at this point, I would like to introduce you to, "Big Blue"! I'll start with the case and work my way inside!

2 AnswersDesktops8 years agoDIRECT EXPRESS CARDS..Anyone else having problems?
I tried getting some cash from an atm and could not withdraw any funds. Then I tried paying my phone bill and my card was declined! I kept calling and calling but kept getting an automated voice telling me that they were currently experiencing high call volumes and to hang up and try again later.
I tried for a couple of hours until I finally decided to call the enrollment number instead of the customer service number. The young lady there was very polite and gave me a tip to getting through to an actual Agent.
Call cust serv and when prompted, select the number 3 option for lost and stolen cards. It took 10 minutes but I did get through.
It turns out that several card accounts have been compromised but what they are calling a "third party" who tried to access and withdraw cash from these accounts. The issue is widespread and the cards are being deactivated and new ones are being issued.
The advice I was given was, if I need my money urgently, to go to a Wells Fargo Bank or a Comerica bank and withdraw draw all of you money using an actual teller.
Or you can go to a store , make a purchase with cashback, and get your money that way. I don't know how this is supposed to work if the card is froze but that was the agents advice.
I hope this helps some of you out there!
6 AnswersPersonal Finance8 years agoAcer Aspire Timeline powers but has black screen and no start-up sounds. How do I know if it's the Screen?
I have an Acer Aspire Timeline 5810TZ. It always worked fine until now. I had it stored away safely in a laptop case for about 4 months and when I took it out and plugged it in, the lights came on and I could hear the hard drive running but had a black screen.
I should also add that none of the Windows start-up sounds could be heard. I also put a music disc in the CD drive and I could hear that the CD was spinning.
I did a search and followed the advice of others who have had this problem...Powered off via the power button, removed the battery, pressed the power button for 30 to 40 seconds to disperse any remaining electricity, then plugged it back in, powered on and got the exact same results.
I also took the hard drive out, removed the RAM and blew out the inside with canned air.
Is there a way to determine if it is the screen, or something more sinister lurking beneath?
Like I said, It worked perfectly when it was put away.
Thanks
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoWhy does Windows 8 ASUS laptop seem to think it is a Windows 7 computer?
I just bought a brand new Asus laptop PC and wanted to create a set of back-up discs, (DVD's). So I opened the Control Panel and what I found on the list was, Windows 7 File Recovery, not Windows 8 File Recovery!
I clicked on it anyway and and started the process and got an error message: "Missing file 0x8007001B".
I am thinking that this laptop was manufactured with Windows 7 but was upgraded to Windows 8 before it left the factory! Now I don't know how to make a system image if a Windows 8 option does not show up in the Control Panel!
Any suggestions?
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoWhere did my Windows Media Player go?
I have a Vista 64-bit desktop PC which I have upgraded to Windows 7 Professional. I did the upgrade a year ago so it isn't relevant to my problem.
I have always used used Windows media player for all of my media needs but one day, I clicked on a file, chose the "Open With" option from the pop-out menu and there was now WMP there!
I looked at my Start menu and it was gone from there & my task-bar! It was also gone from the All Programs list.
I opened my hard drive folder, clicked on Program Files (x86) and there it was. I was trying to figure out how to get it restored back to my All Programs list but don't know how to do it.
I opened the Windows Media Player folder, right-clicked on "wmplayer" and pinned it to my task bar as well as adding a short-cut to my Start Menu. When I click on either the short-cut or the task-bar icon, the player opened & played all of my audio and video files normally, and the library remained intact.
I mean, I NEVER have had an issue with my Media player since 2007 that I couldn't figure out and solve but, this one has me stumped.
I do have the Divx player so I am using that for now but I need my WMP! It doesn't show up on my list of default programs either.
Please, what can I do?
Thanks

5 AnswersDesktops9 years agoWhy am I having so many problems with my graphics?
I have the following graphics card installed in my HP a6554f desktop:
ZOTAC ZT-40608-10L GeForce GT 430 Video Card - 2GB, DDR3, PCI-Express 2.0 (x16), 2x Dual-Link DVI, 1x Mini-HDMI, DirectX 11, Single-Slot
It states that I need at least a 300w power supply which is what I have, 300w. Now, I don't even know if my issues are being caused by the card or something else.
It first started yesterday. I was playing a game on pogo.com that I play everyday. Suddenly, my monitors flashed and my aero was no longer working.
I kept playing and there was another flash and my graphics came back to aero mode.
Today I was just composing an email and suddenly, my monitors went to sleep! My computer did not shut down and as I was typing, nothing should have gone to sleep! Besides, I have my performance settings to, "Never sleep"!
Nothing I did would re-awake my monitors so I had to do a forced shut-down. I restarted, selected start windows normally and all has been well for about an hour.
I guess I should add that I am running 2 HP w1907 monitors!
I checked all connections and nothing is loose. I checked for recent updates and there have been none in the last few days.
I check for updates to my system and components on a weekly basis. I keep my computer clean inside & out.
I did a system check and everything is working properly.
Any ideas? Is it possible that running just the minimum psu is not a smart idea? I have 3 internal hard drives and an external hard drive. Don't know if that makes any difference???
7GB of RAM
Q6600 processor.
Thanks!
2 AnswersAdd-ons9 years agoCould I get advice about erasing 750GB primary HDD to use for storage & installing 160GB HDD for O.S. Only?
I have an HP a6554 desktop. It came with a 750GB hard drive which I would like to erase/delete as completely as possible and use it as external video storage. Do I simply "delete" everything or should I totally eradicate the contents?
I also have a 160 GB HDD installed which I store my photos on. I would like to also erase/delete the contents on this drive, and install my Windows 7 Professional operating system on it, making it my primary drive. I don't care about privacy issues concerning the content since I am not selling the computer. I just want as much free space as possible on the larger HDD.
Thanks.
4 AnswersDesktops9 years agoWhy are Video Clip .avi videos only showing thumbnail and audio?
My band videos are in Video Clip (.avi) format. They have always played properly in Widows Media Player & Media Center as well as Divx player. Suddenly, 90% of them are only showing a thumbnail on the Windows Media Player & Divx video player screen yet playing the audio portion perfectly!
But, they all still play normally in Windows Media Center.
This just happened yesterday. There have not been any changes made to anything on my computer that I am aware of. I am the only user.
I have installed a ZOTAC GeForce GT430 video card 2 weeks ago but, until yesterday videos have been playing on all media players perfectly.
Other video content including DVDs all work normally.
Why the sudden change?
Thanks

1 AnswerDesktops9 years agoCan anyone translate this recipe (which seems to be in some code form) for me?
I typed this recipe myself in plain English. When I opened it up today it is in some weird symbol-code! It's a family thanksgiving recipe titled, "Annie's Beans". Some of the symbols are: Peace symbol, Sideways 69, mailbox, ampersand, scissors, sad face...
When I try to copy & Paste it, it shows up as only square/rectangular boxes.
1 AnswerWords & Wordplay10 years agoIs this system worth upgrading?
The desktop I am using, (or trying to use), for recording software is an HP a6554f.
It came with Vista 64 bit but I have installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. (clean install).
It has a Pegatron Benecia MO BO, Chip-set: G31/G33/P31/P35,
Southbridge Intel 82801 IR,
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 2.40GHz,
500GB HDD, 5GB of DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-6400/800 MHz).
I was thinking about just adding some RAM. I have 1 - 2GB RAM Module & 3- 1GB modules for a total of 5GB factory installed RAM
I was thinking about taking out 1 stick 2GB & 3 sticks of 1GB (5GB total) and replacing with: Crucial Ballistix 8GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz 4 x 2GB. 8GB is my system max.
Is this the upgrade I need or should I upgrade a different component?
The software I want to run is: Cakewalk Music Creator 6.

My PC is an older HP desktop and have tried running recording software but, it sometimes crashes.

I want to use a laptop for recording and I ordered one today. I am hoping for your advice as to whether you think this will handle recording software?
It is an Acer AS5253-BZ 686.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
15.6″ HD wide-screen CineCrystal LED LCD,
AMD Dual-Core Processor C-50 (1.0GHz, 1MB L2 Cache), 4 GB DDR3 RAM (upgradeable to 8 GB), 500GB hard drive,
ATI Radeon HD 6250 Graphics (256MB),
DVD-Super Multi Double-Layer Drive, SD Card reader,
1.3 Megapixel HD Web-cam and Mic,
3 USB ports, 1 HDMI,
802.11 b/g/n WiFi and num-pad,

I ordered it from HSN because they offer low payments and I really can't afford to buy one out-right.
Will it do the trick for me?
The software I will be running is:
Cakewalk Music Creator 6.
The following are the minimum recommended system requirements for Music Creator 6.
Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) or Vista SP2 (32 or 64-bit) or Windows 7 SP1(32 or 64-bit)
Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHz or AMD Phenom Quad Core 9750 2.4 GHz processor

10 GB of hard drive space
Windows-compatible audio interface (Have one)
Windows-compatible MIDI Controller (optional) or MIDI interface (optional) (have one)
Adobe Acrobat Reader
An active Internet connection is required for viewing online video tutorials, for uploading music, and for Technical Support
Or, the down payment is $141.00, is there an upgrade I could do to my desktop for that price that would give enough humph to run the software properly?

3 AnswersDesktops10 years agoCan I Install Vista On A Second HDD Using My System Recovery Discs?
I have a Desktop PC, (HP a6554f), and I have two hard drives installed. The primary hard drive has Windows 7 Pro OS installed. The computer originally came with Vista installed and I still have the recovery discs that I made when I purchased the PC. My question is, can I install Vista on my secondary HDD using the recovery discs? The secondary is 160GB and is empty. I was using it as photo storage but decided that I would like to have Vista as well. I would rather not shrink volume (C:) to install Vista.
I tried installing but its started loading windows files and got paranoid that it would install over my 7 on the main drive. How do I get it to install on drive 2?
