  • Do all the AM3 CPUs support SATA 3?

I'm thinking of doing a cheap server build and want a cheap cpu cuch as an AMD Athlon II X2 270 but I'm unsure if this CPU supports SATA 3 and USB 3.

BTW the motherboard I am thinking of using is an AM3+ motherboard which does support SATA 3 and USB 3.

    Thanks In Advance :D

  • What easy and cheap ways are there for paying for student train tickets?

My brother currently goes to university and lives at home which means he has to catch the train most days to visit the university.

The way my brother has been paying for train tickets for a while now is through the internet whereby he pays for the journey to the uni and the journey back with no particular times however my brother keeps booking his tickets every night before his next day at uni and this just seems like a very stupid system as I would have thought that there would be week or season tickets whereby you would book all the train tickets for a journey too and from a destination each working day for a week, which means only having to book train tickets every week rather than every day like my brother does.

    We live in the UK

    So the question is:

Are there any easier ways (and possibly even perhaps cheaper ways) to book train tickets for commuting students who will be travelling to and from the university most working days?

  • Where can I find some cheap rack server cabinets?

I am thinking of getting a cheap rack server of eBay because I'm going into network management and design at university and it gives me something to learn from at home. There are some really cheap ones on eBay for under £100 although they are a bit dated, first I was wondering if getting one of these cheap rack servers is worth it simply for personal learning purposes?

One issue I can find with these servers are the cabinets as I've had a look around and most cabinets are too large and way too expensive. I want a small server cabinet which will allow me to expand and have room for a couple more servers but not cost anymore than £100. I cant understand why they cost so much if there just pieces of metal so if anyone could explain why they are so expensive that would be great.

So back to the main question where can I find some cheap rack server cabinets?

    Thanks In Advance! :D

  • Are there any major issues with using a desktop as a 24/7 server?

Im thinking of buying a new CPU and mother board to replace my current AMD 1090t CPU and I was thinking of using the AMD 1090t for a server build but my main worry is that it may be a safety hazard as I will probably leave it running 24/7 and it could catch fire!

Will the components may easily fail such as the HDD (although I may get a NAS HDD)?

Also will there be more of a fire hazard compared to using a proper server?

Basically I'm turning a gaming PC into a server (server wont include GPU) for minecraft, what are your opinions on this?

  • What are the disadvantages of motherboard RAID 0?

I'm not looking for the disadvantages of RAID 0, just the configuration of doing RAID on the motherboard rather than getting an expensive hardware raid card.

The RAID setup I intend to do is x2 1TB Western Digital Black HDDs in RAID 0.

I understand there are hardware raid cards but they always seem to be associated with enterprise or SSD RAID.

Reliability is not a big issue as I will have all the data backed up on a different HDD and the HDDs I will put in this RAID configuration have 4 years warranty remaining.

I am basically looking for an increase in performance.

So would hardware raid be a good option to improve performance or is it just a waste of money?

    Thanks In Advance :D

  • Can the police be prevented from searching a HDD if it is encrypted?

I hear of stories where people have had there hard drive searched by police to find evidence in a case, but if a hard drive was encrypted would they be able to search it?

Do they have anyway of hacking?

So for instance when USA killed bin laden and took HDDs and flash drives, if they were encrypted what would they have done?

  • What are the benefits of Andriod over IOS?

I've had an iPhone 4 for a while now and I've got to admit I'm really tempted to get the new Samsung Galaxy S4 what with all the tech specs as I find apple are very slow at keeping up to date with hardware and cant be bothered to improve their software.

Anyway what I want to know is what are the benefits of having an android operating system over the IOS operating system.

    Does it provide anymore features?

Are there some features the android does not have but IOS does?

    Can it be jail-broken?

What is the app store like?

What software is used on PC to sync or manage the phone?

Are there any major issues with Android?

    Thanks In Advance :D

  • Is it possible to have a server which does all the following...?

    Large storage over LAN

    # Cloud storage to access storage through internet

    # Store CCTV footage which can also be viewed remotely via internet (watch both live and past footage)

    # Cloud gaming (could this be done by remote access to another PC/server on the same network?)

    # Host website

So is it possible to have all the above features on one server? and if it is possible then what kind of price range would it cost for a server which could carry out these operations(excluding HDDs)?

  • Can I claim on my warranty for my western digital HDD?

The HDD I have is a Western Digital 1TB HDD (64mb of cache 6Gb/s) which i have had for less than 2 years.

I also have an i identical drive but that works fine (i checked product codes and everything)

Anyway this hard drive is making rapid ticking/clicking sounds which is annoying and I have done various benchmarks with the two identical drives and the HDD which makes the noise has less speeds across the board. I have assigned it to being a backup drive and it does not run or at least runs slowly most of the time because it is not being used which is fine for the moment.

The noisy HDD is still working and functions fine apart from the slightly lower speeds and noise, it currently doesn't bother me that much as i use it as a backup drive at the moment but i want to do a raid-0 configuration and i fear that my HDD will constantly make noises and limit the speeds that the raid-0 configuration could offer.

The backup HDD which is making the noises is filled to a higher capacity then the other drive whichg works fine:

    Noisy HDD capacity: 795/932

    Working HDD capacity: 388/932

I am unsure if the amount of data on the HDD will cause sound or speed problems so if they do please explain and say to what extent it affects the sound and speeds as my HDD sounds and speeds are quite different to say that there is only twice as much data on the faulty HDD.

Both the HDDs are running on SATA 6Gb/s because my motherboard offers only sata 6Gb/s or so it says. It there anyway through software that i can check that both HDDs are running on 6Gb/s as the motherboard may be limiting the 6Gb/s bandwidth to only one SATA connector.

    My motherboard is: M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3

    http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A88TDV_...

^ Webpage of motherboard specs ^

The HDD has had not been physically damaged in anyway and has stayed stationary in my PC for ages.

I cannot say for certain if that problem has been happening from the start as i have only noticed when it is used which is not too often.

My HDD also has a 5 year limited warranty

So what is the diagnosis of my HDD?

Do you know of anyone who has claimed on there western digital warranty and what the outcome was?

Can i send it back to western digital and get it fixed/replaced?

Sorry for the long winded question but it is an awkward situation for me as it is currently stopping me from doing a raid-0 configuration.

    I appreciate any appropriate answers

    Thanks in advance :D

  • Are RAID Controllers More Beneficial Then Using Motherboard RAID Setups?

I'm just a bit confused why there are RAID controllers when most motherboards already allow for RAID setups.

BTW I might be doing RAID 0

  • If my iPhone 4 broke and I went to the apple store what options would they give me?

It seems that everyone has broken their iPhone apart from me.

Anyway it is inevitable that the battery in my iPhone 4 will die eventually and i was just wondering if that did happen and I went to the apple store what options would they give me, for instance:

#Replace the battery for a fee (iPhone 4 battery replacements may not be available because its old)

#Give me a discount on a new version of iPhone

    #Do nothing

By the way i have no insurance or apple care plan thing and the iPhone model is an iPhone 4 32GB

    Thanks in advance :)

  • Can I Attach An External HDD To A Router For Network Attached Storage?

My router has a USB connector i was just wondering if i could simply insert an external HDD into it so all the data on the HDD can be accessed by anybody connected to the router on the network.

Would any additional software be needed to do this?

Do only some routers with a USB connector do this or are all routers with a USB capable of doing this?

Are there any issues associated with this kind of network setup?

It this kind of setup called NAS (network attached storage)?

I'm just looking for a quick answer so u don't have to answer all the above questions but if you can that would be great!

    Thanks In Advance!

  • IOS 6 Flaws!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

The app store is stupidly slow due to the shear mass of large images rather than small thumbnails which were on the previous IOS and seems more clostraphobic rather than the older version.

Anyone else notice any stupid new flaws on ios 6?
