  • Should I be paid more as an "on-call" employee?

I'm leaving my job which I've had for 5 years now. It's a highly technical position which they'll have a hard time filling. I'm moving on to start my own business with my wife. They've asked if I'd be willing to be "on call" for questions they may have after I leave. They'll give me a laptop and let me help them out remotely. I lose company benefits of course, since I expect to only help out a couple hours here and there. I just got my agreement letter and they didn't offer me any more pay than my current pay rate. Should I be a little annoyed at this? Part of me doesn't want to burn any bridges... but another part of me wants to tell them to go F themselves. They haven't really done me any favors in the past... and I'm getting tired of this being a one way street.

  • My company closed our office on a friday so they could move to a new location. Told employees they had to make that time up on their own?

They said we had to make up that time elsewhere in that week, or work remotely from home if we had a laptop. I don't have one. Was that legal? Closing the office during normal business hours and forcing us to use vacation or make the time up elsewhere? Just curious.

  • Why do our children (3 & 5) hit my wife?

So our children hit my wife when they're throwing a tantrum, but they never exhibit that type of behavior towards me. I want to get to the bottom of this and figure out why this is happening before it develops into a problem for them later in life.

She is a SAHM. Nether my wife or I hit or spank our kids... or each other. I admit I will forcefully grab one of the kids and remove them from a situation of they are not behaving, but there's never any striking of any sort. I may take them to their room or to a "time out" spot.

I tend to be a stone-wall when they hit me, whereas my wife tends to freak out. I guess they get a response from her, and that's why they continue to do it. Just curious if anyone else has any insight or advice? Do I tell my wife to stop "freaking out"? She's a super mom... but I can't help but feel she's setting our kids up with some behavior which isn't healthy. (She's been in abusive relationships in the past)

  • How to initiate intimacy?

I know.. quit a seemingly easy question. But how do other couples go about it? I hear other married couples say they get it on 4+ times a week and I have a hard time imagining it. I'd love to have that!

My wife and I have been married for 8 years. Early on, as is common, our relationship was heavily sexually charged. We spent a LOT of time doing the nasty. Then we moved in together... then house... marriage... 2 kids... the natural progression.

We've had some really great sex... and can get a bit freaky too... but we've never been too great with blunt sexual conversation or communication.

Now, we really have sex maybe twice a month if I'm lucky. We thoroughly enjoy it when it happens. We do both reach climax.... though I tend to take longer than she'd want sometimes. I think she finds it a chore to see things through to completion sometimes. (sometimes I take 40-60 minutes)

I feel like the stars must be aligned for anything to happen. The kids must have had a good day... we must get to bed at a reasonable hour... the day must have gone nicely... no headaches.. etc etc. We're in our upper 30's. I'm just not ready for my sex life to be over!

Any suggestions? For those long term relationship couples who still get it on frequently... how does that come about on a frequent basis? Ours, when it happens... is almost like a scheduled appointment.

  • Best way to extend wifi range to a distance approx. 800'?

Let's assume money is not a barrier within about $5k. My in-laws live on a lake and they want to get a wifi security camera all the way down to their dock on the lake. They suspect a neighbor may be tampering with their boats. There may be some trees between the dock and house... but no earth. The distance is approx 800'-1,000' horizontally with the house being quite a bit higher in elevation.

There is power at the dock. I am aware of the "cantennas" and all the home built contraptions. I'm looking for something a little more robust and professional and plug-n-play.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Why does my car feel unstable?

I drive a 2008 Subaru outback I purchased last fall. (It is a rebuild) I don't drive it much, just for short local trips mostly. The handling always struck me as being a bit too touchy. One little nudge of the wheel and you can feel the car jerk and swerve. I also noticed a tenancy for the car to jump around the lane when one side hits a bump.

Well, after putting on some steel rims and winter tires, I was pleasantly surprised to find the steering much more manageable. Now I know winter tires combined with steel rims = dull handling. But could there be something more than that?

I just put the summer tires/rims back on yesterday and I can't believe the difference in stability. The summer (all-season) tires show medium wear and alloy rims look fine. Even wear on tires.

Many of my previous cars were Audis, so maybe this is all just in my head and I'm not accustomed to less refined Subaru handling? Not sure. Just looking for input.

  • Refrigerator compressor working, but condenser not warm?

Hello. I have a LG refrigerator Model # LRFD25850ST. We had short 3 second power outage the other day and since then, our refrigerator has stopped cooling.

The compressor seems to hum and get pretty warm.

The condenser does not get warm. What are all possible causes for this?

The condenser fan was not working, but has since been replaced and works now. This does not change the fact that the condenser does not warm up.

Circuit board has been replaced with no change.

Relays have all been bypassed and still no luck.

We've had a technician out and he's stumped. (Though, he seems pretty inexperienced with LG maybe) He did mention something about the compressor getting an incorrect voltage.

He's throwing in the towel and we're dumbfounded that this relatively pristine refrigerator is destined for the great big appliance graveyard in the sky.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Which kind of epoxy/plastic should I use?

This is a little project involving my new bow window. I was hoping to do something a little different with the small shelf space it provides. (the bow window is 8' wide and bows out away from the house only about 10" at the center) I was going to make a tray about 1.5" deep, and place small river stones inside it, then pour an epoxy to make a smooth and glass-like clear shelf.

After a little research, I'm finding that many products suffer from discoloration when exposed to UV rays. (This will be in direct sunlight every day) Some are also prone to distortion from heat. (Like a hot coffee mug) There's got to be something out there that will be resilient to heat/sunlight/scratches short of pouring actual glass. Help!
