  • A Question for anyone who cares to answer... What do you think?

Is calling someone a homophobe or fundie not treating these people with the same derision you are reacting against?

I would count myself as somewhere in the middle of both so probably not as offended by all the bickering as much as some are but setting aside the fact that someone may actually be in fact a homophobe or fundamentalist Christian/Jew/Muslim etc there is a derisive tone whenever I see these questions and I can't help feeling it's all as "bad" as the other?

Anyone else have thoughts on this or is it just me?

  • Any Translations of the Christian OT into English considered accurate by Jewish Faith?

This is in response to Debra M.'s question

    http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak...

My interest was piqued and I'd be interested in reading a translation of the books in the Christian Old Testament into English that is considered accurate by the Jewish faith.

    Are there any?

  • Folks from Dublin: Cost of Living?

I've been back with my parents for a couple of years due to illness and starting to get better and I'm just wondering (if people don't mind telling) what amounts someone living in a one bed flat/bedsit pays on the following...

Rent; ESB; Gas; TV; Bins; Food.

Is there anything else I should add to my figures?

    Thanks a million :o)

  • Will bark chippings keep weeds down and let bulbs flower?

I had a horrible amount of weeds come up with the bulbs I planted last autumn and I'm just wondering if bark chippings would be an effective way to keep the weeds down or is it purely decorative?

Will the bulbs still flower or would it stop them appearing also?

If not what are effective ways to deter weeds?

    I'm only a newbie so please don't assume I know anything! :o)

  • Has Anyone Walked in the Maritime Alps?

Am Irish and thinking of walking in the Maritime Alps for my hols in late September. I may use a British company - On Foot Holidays route and bag carrying services. That's not cheating is it :o)

Has anyone ever used that company specifically?

Have you any others you could reccommend? Irish ones?

Or have you any general experience of the area or just stories to get me in the mood?

    Thanks a million!

  • Thumbs Up vs Thumbs Down: How Do You Decide?

I've seen a lot of answers refer to all Atheists/Christians report me for such and such and it made me wonder what parameters you use to determine whether an answer should be given a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Personally if I feel an answerer isn't answering the question that was asked in the spirit it was asked then I give a thumbs down. If it was an answer that was to the point and not insulting anyone then I give it a thumbs up but what does anyone else do?

    Just curious - no agenda!

  • Why is it easier for some people to believe we came from nothing than to believe that God was responsible?

I don't know what I believe about Creation and whether the Genesis account is allegory or litteral but I do believe that God is responsible whatever happened.

So when someone said the following in a question I asked earlier about whether or not Jews believe in the literal translation it got me thinking...

"You have to begin by trying to perceive the void, no matter, no atoms, no energy, nothing, just emptiness.....that will be a mind job but will leave you in the best state to start trying to understand"

Why is it easier for some people to believe we came from nothing than to believe that God was responsible?
