  • Why do people feel the need to dictate who can and cannot get married?

First off, I am a Christian. I personally do not believe in homosexual activity for myself. But why should I decide that for someone else? Not everyone believes the same as me and has the same religion as me. I just have trouble understanding why some fundamentalist groups support passing a law to BAN it for other people. Who made them the moral authority for everyone? Can anyone explain this to me?

  • Do you think it should be illegal for churches to have crosses on the exterior of their buildings?

There have been several cases in which the feds have been sued for allowing religious institutions to display their symbols (such as crosses) on the exterior of the building or on the steeple. They say that it is offensive to those who may pass by the church and have to look at it. What is your take on this issue? Or is it a nonissue?

  • Do northerners really feel this way about southerners?

I was reading an article on CNN the other day about the tornado outbreak here in the southeast. It talked about the destruction and about the rising death toll, which had surpassed 300. In the comment section, I noticed several comments that absolutely floored me. One said, "Only 300? If it's in the south, make it 3,000 and I will be happy. The less southerners, the higher the IQ of our nation." Another said, "I almost cried about the deaths until I realized they were probably southern baptists. Where is your god now?"

There were dozens of comments along those lines. These people purported to be from the northeast and said that most people in the northern states were unconcerned with the deaths of southerners and actually welcomed the news. My stomach churned at the notion that anyone could be so depraved and malevolent while hundreds reeled from the deaths of their families. Simply because of regional differences.

I will be honest. I have never been to the northern states. Besides a trip to England and to the Caribbean, I have never left the southeast. Is this truly the sentiment of most notherners towards southerners? Or did I just view this comment board at an unfortunate time?

  • Why can conspiracy theorists never be pacified?

No matter what sort of evidence is released regarding any controversial event in history, it seems most conspiracy theorists will go out of their way and make outrageous and far fetched claims to keep the conspiracy going. I spoke to one today who said even if they could touch the body of Osama Bin Laden, they would believe it was a fake and that the government had set them up. Do they live to doubt?

  • Would it be morally wrong for the United States to stifle China's economic growth?

Would it be wrong for the United States to pass legislation to help maintain its position as the world's number one economy at the expense of China's economy? Or is it fair game to look out for your own country?

  • Does Lady Gaga dislike heterosexuals?

I feel like she always gives shoutouts to and encourages the GLBT community, but seems to make no mention of the rest. Is she on record purporting that she has something against straight people?

  • Do you feel like time has flown?

I was browsing youtube a few moments ago and happened upon the newest trailer for the next (and final) Harry Potter movie. As I was watching me, it dawned on me that it has been almost 11 years since the first movie came out. I am 20 years old and I think back about High School and even Middle School and it's just surreal that this much time has passed.

Anyone else ever get a similar feeling? Almost like you have blinked and time has flown?

  • Are Australian waters safe to swim in?

I will be living in Australia for a while (Queensland) in a few months and I have been reading up on the beaches there. Everything I read mentions that Australia has some of the most venemous animals in the world in its waters. Eg: The box jellyfish, Stone fish, Blue ring octopus. Not to sound too ignorant, but it has made me sort of apprehensive about getting in the waters. Does the fun outweigh the risks?

  • Is Essex really that terrible of a place to visit?

I am an American student who has the opportunity to study at the University of Essex in Colchester this fall. I am in the final phases of signing up, but I am having doubts. Everything I read about Essex says it is a terrible place infested with Chavs and overall tacky and rude people. Is it really so bad that I should cancel my plans and not study abroad in England?

  • Is it safe to use Everclear in "hunch punch?"?

Some buddies and I are making some hunch punch tomorrow night. Most of the online recipes say to use everclear as the alcohol. I have always used rum. Is it even safe to use everclear in the punch? I hear that stuff is very dangerous.

  • Am I too old to be playing video games?

I am 19 and am turning 20 in a couple of weeks and I was thinking about all the video games I still love to play. I just got my PS3 a year ago and really enjoy playing games like modern warfare 2 and even some of my older games like Kingdom Hearts and such. Is it time for me to start weening myself from video games?

  • Are your memories from your childhood like this?

When I think back about my childhood (ages 5-10 or so) my memories are extremely fragmented. It's like my brain chose to pick up the most random images and store them. I remember when I was three and sitting in the floor watching my mom talk on the phone. Why that memory? I also have an image of my grandmother picking me up in church one Sunday. The same is really true with my early teens. I remember the most random things but forget the others. While I may remember one thing, my friend may not remember it but remembers something else I don't. Is that normal?
