  • do plasmids occur naturally in cells....?

Long before it was investigated by M. Hildebrand, plant chloroplast and eukaryotic DNA were known to contain plasmids.

"We have discovered plasmids in 5 of 18 diatom species surveyed. In several species, more than one type of plasmid is present. Several of the plasmids show similarity by hybridization previously characterized plasmids in Cylindrotheca fusiformis (J. D. Jacobs et al., unpublished data). Additionally, there is similarity between the plasmids found in C. fusiformis and chloroplast DNA in three diatom species. These results add to the evidence that the plasmids have features of mobile genetic elements." -

Question: Do plasmids naturally occur as circular DNA outside chromosome or they form the circular shape when they genetically recombine as a cloning vector with other DNA ?

  • Has it anywhere in your text book been mentioned that virus are different?

Has it anywhere in your text book been mentioned that viruses are different from plasmids and can’t and do not contain plasmids? I know it is written that bacteria contain plasmids. But, does that mean “Viruses are devoid of plasmids”? Would you go a step forward of your text book as many scientists do?

  • A question on morals and ethics of teaching....?

You can often see that elderly people submit wrong answers to questions asked by school students and minors. They not only try to convince minors about their wisdom by putting labels like Professor, Dr., Senior Teacher, etc., but also argue on baseless grounds with someone who gives the correct answer. Furthermore, these people remain silent on critical scientific questions which require elaborate discussions and greater degree of knowledge. How to get rid of this? Don't they cause any harm to the mind of young learners?
