  • Ipod shuffle: orange blinking light?

I've had my Ipod shuffle plugged into the side of my comp for over 48 hours now. The battery was low, and I'm trying to recharge it. (Lost the paperwork with it) If I have a status light on the bottom of this thing, I've never seen it. Isn't it supposed to be charged by now??? Have I broken it? Help! I want my music back!

  • Newbie!!! Which handheld game?

Holy cow. I've been out of electronics for the past 10 years, and apparently I'm waaayyyyyyyy behind on "what's in". I'm going to admit that I have no idea what the difference is between a ps2, ps2 lite, gameboy or wii.

My problem: I need a handheld game for a 6-7 yr old girl for Christmas. I have no idea where to start, except I want to spend less than $50, and don't mind if it's a gently used item.

Can anyone please guide me on WHAT to buy, and WHERE to start looking???????????

    Input appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Patiently waiting, thanks.

  • Please share your list of online HSing resources?

Would anyone mind giving me a list of their online resources that you use for 1st through 3rd??? My friend is pulling her boy from PS and starting HSing next week. I believe he's a 3rd grader, but on K5/1st reading and math level. My child is only in K, and I don't have any experience with older grades to share with her. I have mentioned enchantedlearning that has multiple levels, but don't know of any more. (I could also use it for my girl next year and later.) I understand the time and effort that is put into making your lists, and I'd truley appreciate it.

    Thanks

  • FIAR (Five in a row) booklist?

I copied a FIAR booklist (vol 1, 2, and 3) from their site and checked the local libraries for them...then I was sharing it with other people and one said that it wasn't complete list.

Does anyone have a complete list, and will you please share it with me?

    Thanks!

  • Five in a Row...complete or supplementary?

A friend has recommended FIAR for my kindergartener (I've been winging it, but need a little more structure...and more fun). However, she stated that it's mostly supplementary. She said I'd still need to stick with my Saxon math, 100 Easy Lessons, and HWTs.

I went to their website, and it states that it's an all-encompasing, general curriculum.

Have you used FIAR, did your student like it, and did you need to supplement anything? One of my biggest fears is missing something important in her schooling.

    Thanks!

  • lonely...how to start a new group?

It was suggested from my last posted question that I should consider starting my own HS co-op group. I don't even know how to go about meeting other HSers except from the already existing group. I've left a notice/word with the local libraries that if anyone is ever asking about HSing in our area, please hand out my name, number and email.

Has anyone ever started their own group? How did you recruite?

    Thanks.

  • Lonely without a group?

Wanted to know if any of you were having the same problem I'm having?

Our local HS co-op group is the ONLY one in the county. (Our county is also very rural...no malls, movies or anything of that nature within 25 miles at least. Even the parks are rundown and basically deserted.) There are a few multi-child families that pretty much "run" the co-op. Me and my kid do not fit in. I don't know why, but we were out from the start...I didn't even know it until after I seen a few of them out in public and couldn't get a response to a friendly "hello".

My child is still too young to get involved with community sports, scouts, and the like. Gotta be 6, I checked. Doesn't matter that she's doing 1st grade work. The few friends we have are all public school families that are involved in after school sports, cheer and "stuff".

So, my child is getting quite lonely for playmates. It's starting to break my heart, and I'm beginning to doubt my choice to homeschool. I never thought that the whole ridiculous "socialization" issue would actually BE an issue with my family. Can anyone offer advise in this area?

  • Ideas for hosting a HS playgroup?

I'm going to host a playgroup in a couple weeks for families with about eight kids from 2 mths old to 6 years old. I'm going to have balloons for them to play with (keeping in mind that the smaller ones will stay with moms so they don't choke). Other than that, do you have any suggestions for a group like this?

  • What is that pledge to God?

I went to a new, "younger" church the other day. They said the Pledge of Allegiance...then they said a "Pledge to God". Does anyone know what this pledge says?

I felt like an ignorant fool while I mumbled my way through it.

    Is this common nowadays?

    Thanks

  • Eliminate milk for depression???

I was looking through some answers regarding depression and was concerned about an answer given. It said that milk should be cut from the diet along with caffiene, sugar and other stuff.

I can understand the caffeine...I'm personally a coffee addict and know that I SHOULDN'T have to drink a cup just to think clearly (I'm currently cutting back). And my belief is that sugar is probably the widest used Drug on the planet. But what is the reasoning behind milk??? I personally drink raw milk and think that store-bought is not healthy. Is it for the same reasoning? Allergy related? What?

    Thanks for any answers

  • Machine to make electricity?

I met a man today at a yard sale...long story short, he lives on top of a mountain in an off-grid cabin. Apparently he's mechanically inclined (which I am extremely not) because he has several items in his home rigged to recieve electrictiy from his stationary bicycle. Is there a site online that sells this sort of stuff? Or tells you how to build it? I don't even know what it's called! Thanks

  • Would you find this odd?

My child has been in preschool for 2 weeks. She has undergone the "regular testing" ie. check for: lice, vision problems, hearing problems, speech... My 3 (almost 4) yr old was sent home with a packet after the speech testing. The teacher briefly told me, "They think she needs speech therapy, but I don't see anything to worry about." Now, I can understand testing all the kids for lice (can be spread)...but why are they testing for everything else? Her pediatrician just did those screenings 3 weeks ago.

Also, the testing was not done by the health department (government ran just like the school system)...it was done by individual doctor's offices. The packet that was sent home was for parents to fill out insurance information, personal data (like what was going on with pregnancy of child), etc.

Never once did the entire packet mention what was wrong with her speech. What do you think...or is this not a cause of concern for you???

  • Type of printer?

I was wondering if any of you buy printers off the shelf at Walmart, or special printers that can handle larger printing loads...I'm asking because the last two printers we've bought didn't last more than a year.

  • A thought?...how many HSers have?

How many homeschoolers' children are on medication for ADHD? I personally think that "ADHD" is just another term for lazy parenting. Aren't children SUPPOSED to be hyper???...it's in their nature. And aren't children naturally disorderly??? Isn't it the parent's responsibility to train the child on what is socially acceptable? So far, every school aged niece/nephew in my family has been told that they need medicated by the school/teacher, doctor, or some other "professional". So, I was wondering: If you spend more 1 on 1 quality time teaching your child, can't you figure out a way to teach that will be more acceptable to the child...and make him/her WANT to learn???

  • I hope fild/seed grain is the same as bread grain!! It is right???

I've asked in the cooking and other sections of Answers...I've bought a 50 lb bag from my local coop. I'm grinding it and making bread. It tastes the same I guess. I can't find anyone who can tell me for sure if it's the same wheat. It can't harm me right???? Who knows...I might just sprout horns and say moo.
