  • Origin of this quote?

Trying to find a source for this:

"I want people to tell their children terrible stories about the things we did for love."

This might be approximate, but if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

  • Can the time I spend making hats and scarves be declared on my taxes the way my yarn can?

I make hats, scarves and blankets for charity and was recently told I can use the money spent on yarn as a deduction on my taxes if I want. I'm wondering if the time I spend can also somehow be deducted and how I would go about doing it.

    Thanks.

  • how can I make the antlers on my amigurumi reindeer stand up?

I'm trying to add antlers to a hat I made using an amigurumi pattern I found, but they won't stand up straight. I've not tried making stuffed animals before, does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm using Red Heart Shimmer as the yarn.

  • Best noise reduction software for audio recorded on my camera?

I recorded some friends playing music on my camera, but there were people talking in the background. Can anyone recommend decent easy to use software to remove the other voices? Or a company that can do it? I've looked at a few sites but they all seem to be for transferring from vinyl to cd or mp3.

  • Can a Cricut be used to create letter stencils?

I'm not interested in scrapbooking, but I would like to have a way to make stencils. I'm not very good at cutting out letters and sometimes need them at different sizes than I can get at craft stores.

  • Base metal clay firing question?

I'm interested in working with base metal clays, but my kiln doesn't have a temperature control. Basically, you plug it in and the temp rises to 1650F. Instructions state that the clay should be held at a temp of 1000F for 30-60 minutes, then fired a second time at a higher temp. I'm wondering if holding it at the higher temp the first time around would be just as effective (meaning I wouldn't have to buy a new kiln).

    Thanks

  • Backwards purl stitch?

I'm a new knitter and was recently advised to slip my first knit stitch and work the last one backward to keep my rows even. That worked really well, but what if I want to alternate rows of knit and purl? How do I work a backwards purl stitch?

  • Knitting problem help?

I'm just learning how to knit and my rows aren't the same length. It looks like I have stitches that are longer on both ends, so that my work looks kind of like an upside down U. I thought it might be that the stitches on the end were looser than the middle but I've tried loosening my middle stitches and I'm still having the same issue.

  • What kind of ink should I use?

on my skin that won't be removed by rubbing alcohol? I want to draw something on my skin and have it inked in by my tattoo artist, but the ink will be removed when she sterilizes the area. I'm having a friend help me, so it has to be done before hand. I've experimented with sharpie and a paint pen and both come off right away with alcohol. Any suggestions?

  • Illusion knitting pattern question?

I taught myself how to knit so that I could make this pattern. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/metallicar...

But for some reason, the car is coming out white. I've started over twice with the same results each time. What could the problem be?

  • Guerrilla art ideas....?

that don't involve littering? Like, no random pieces of paper or yarn stuck to light poles and things like that. I don't want to contribute to already existing problems, just have some fun being creative and maybe make some people smile.

  • Is this an appropriate gift?

Recently an acquaintance did something very nice for me and I'd like to give him something special to say thanks. He's mentioned several times that he collects watches and since I'm an artisan and jeweler I thought I might make him a watch. I've never seen his collection and I don't want to seem arrogant by presuming that he would want something I made when from what I've seen most collections consist of high end brand name watches. Any thoughts?

  • Can precious metal clay be applied to other metals such as iron?

I want to add pmc gold or silver (probably silver) to an iron medallion a blacksmith friend created for me but I'm concerned that the pmc won't bond to the iron when I fire it and the silver will just fall off.

  • What's the best way to repair blue jeans?

I have a pair of jeans that I'm adding patches to, some decorative, some actually needed. The holes are along the length of one leg, and I'm having trouble with the material bunching as I try to sew it. Any suggestions?

  • How can I get a metal business card like this (see link) but with my info?

I've tried a few options--the person who created them for Kevin Mitnick only does them for him. None of the engraving shops I've asked (about 3 dozen all over the country) can/will do engraving all the way through. I've shown the card to several jewelry repair/engraving shops like Things Remembered and Fast Fix and they say they can't remove the lettering already on the card without ruining the finish.

I'm thinking about seeing if I can recreate it with precious metal clay, but I'm concerned that it won't be strong enough.

    Any ideas?

  • Crochet handwash/blocking question?

I made a dress for an infant out of a new silk/bamboo blend yarn and wanted to wash it before giving. I handwashed in warm water as per the instructions, then laid it out and pressed it with towels to remove the extra water.

The skirt of the dress before washing was about 18 inches. Now it is about 22. The dress is still a little damp from washing--will it go back to the right size? What can I do if it doesn't?

    Thanks
