  • RNA transcription homework help?

I am given a noncoding DNA sequence and a coding DNA sequence to transcribe. I have no trouble transcribing them (A-U, T-A, C-G, C-G) but I'm a little confused about the noncoding and coding part. Do I only transcribe the coding part? Do I transcribe both and put them together to make one long mRNA strand? I know they have to make one strand ( the next question asks me to translate the mRNA strand to the amino acid sequence) but I am not sure how.

    Thank you for your answers.

  • Taming a rainbow skink?

I have recently purchased a rainbow skink (about 6 months old) and I'd like to tame it. The care sheets I've read says to handle it often, but how often is often? Do I chase it around its cage and grab it whether it wants to come out or not, or do I let it come to me? Should I wait until it's older and bigger, or should I be doing everything I can now before it gets too old?

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Brown sludge around lights in aquarium?

I have a 48 gallon freshwater tank with 4 aquatic frogs, 3 plecos and 20 cardinal tetras. The ph balance is 7.5 and the ammonia and nitrate levels are all very low.

Around the lights under the light hood is a very pervasive brown sludge. I wipe it off and it grows back within a matter of days. Everything I read on the internet says it's due to a low light issue, but if it's growing right next to the lights, that can't be right, can it?

What can I do to get rid of it for good?

  • Losing weight without exercising?

For the past 7 months I have been exercising and eating healthy, and have lost over 45 pounds. Now, due to patella femoral disorder in both knees and an upcoming hysterectomy surgery, I will be unable to exercise for some time.

Ideally I'd like to continue losing weight but I'd be just as happy to not gain anything. Without the added benefit of exercise, do I need to cut my calorie and fat intake even more or is there another way?

  • What is the ideal ph balance for my 48 gallon freshwater tank?

I have a 48 gallon tank with 10 danios and 4 aquatic dwarf frogs (More fish will be added later). What is the ideal ph balance I should be looking for? Does the ph balance depend on the type of fish in the tank?

  • Is an early BFP indicative of twins?

The first day of my LMP was February 21.

I ovulated March 9 (according to the First Response OPK)

I got a very positive pregnancy result on March 17 after having some weird symptoms the day before.

That seems really early to me. I know it's rare but possible, but still..That's only 8 days dpo!

Could this be indicative of a multiple birth? Anyone experience something similar?

  • Do yams taste noticeably different than sweet potatoes?

Usually my grocery store carries sweet potatoes and just calls them yams. This year they actually carried yams and I unknowingly bought them. Do they taste very similar to sweet potatoes? Can I simply swap yams for sweet potatoes in a recipe, or should I cut back on other ingredients?

I'm making candied sweet potatoes and I use cinnamon, brown sugar, cream, butter and marshmallows.

    Thanks!

  • Body is still acting pregnant after miscarriage?

On October 24th I had an 11 week miscarriage. I bled for about 5 days and passed (I think) everything. Now, 9 days later I still have a fair amount of hcg in my system (as evidenced by a HPT) and my body is still acting like it's pregnant. My boobs are getting bigger and my uterus is still very hard.

Is this normal or could I still be pregnant? How long does it take for a body to realize that there's nothing there?

  • Do you know this movie?

The only scene of this movie that I remember is a college age girl is forced to sleep with her black teacher to keep her disabled brother from being expelled. (This is NOT a porn.) I thought Milla Jovovich was the girl, but I may be wrong. Any ideas?

  • Are non-Canadian strollers legal?

I know car seats are illegal if bought outside of Canada, but what about just the stroller? I have a Canadian Graco SnugRide car seat but want to buy a stroller from the States.

Does anyone know of the regulations regarding this?

  • Does Linux Ext3 have something similar to NTFS' MFT or HFS+ Catalog File?

NTFS has the Master File Table (MFT). HFS+ has the Catalog File. What does Ext3 use? So far all I can find is references to a journaling system. Does it have a master file, or does it just keep the data per file?
