Which bit should I use?
I have had a little paint mare for about a year. When I bought her the owners were using a tom thumb, and she responded well to that, so whenever I rode her that's what I used. I have also used a D ring snaffle, but she wasn't as responsive with that one. I am attempting to ride english starting next week and would like some suggestions on a good bit for her. (not too harsh, she doesn't need it, but not something she is going to walk right through)
This is my first horse, and the first time I have had to buy things for one, the horses I rode as a kid just had things assigned to them, and we didn't question it.
6 AnswersHorses1 decade agodogs eating TOTW- ever happen with yours?
I Switched my dogs from Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice to Taste of the Wild Pacific stream.
It was a quick switch, only taking about 3 days. then over the course of a week 3 of them got diarrhea, followed by pure blood coming out. I took them to the vet and she said that I had done the switch too fast and they had gastroenteritis colitis and they were prescribed meds that cleared it right up.
I was talking to a client at my vet's office (I work there) whose dogs had the same thing happen after feeding TOTW, and a few people on forums I am on who did the switch gradually ALSO had this happen. All dogs were different breeds and different ages and sizes, but the thing they all had in common was the TOTW. Has anyone else had this problem with it?
I am no longer feeding this food, but found a comparable one.
4 AnswersDogs1 decade agogender confused, or just a form of kink?
I have been married for a year and a half almost. My husband has been getting progressively odder in the past year.
When we started dating I knew he was into some BDSM type things. That progressed to him wanting to be dominated by a pro. Now (in the past year) I find out that he wants to cross dress, and it is something that he likes to do when im not around. AND THEN he says "well, I think I might be half gay"
WTF, Why would he spring this all of the sudden. we honestly have had sex only once in the past year, and Im really starting to just be wierded out by this man that I was sure i knew.
5 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoOdd Dream, can anyone explain it?
The night before last I had a dream. In the dream I woke up, it was the wee hours of the morning, when the sky is just starting to lighten. I sat up and noticed there was blood on the sheets, and it was coming from me. there was also a trail of smeared blood leading to under a piece of furniture(i cant remember what piece, but it was either the couch or the bed) someone(again I do not know who, however I know that the person was male) leaned down to see what was under it. My dog (a small blue merle sheltie, that I actually have in real life, not just in the dream) lunged out from under the furniture at him, as if guarding something, he pushed her to the side and got out what she was guarding. It was a small baby, only about 8 inches tall, and really did not look like a baby. It was the shape of a baby, but its skin looked as if it was made out of burlap, and the features were muted. the dog had eaten the "baby's " foot, and it was bleeding.
Apparently I had given birth to the burlap baby in my sleep, without being aware that I was even pregnant, or that I was having the baby (it didn't wake me in my sleep) and the dog stole it.
In the dream I was very unemotional, it didn't surprise, nor upset me.
Its all very odd, can anyone explain this?
4 AnswersDream Interpretation1 decade agowhiteline causing stringhalt?
I recently bought a 6 year old paint mare. I had ridden her and visited her both announced and unannounced 5 or 6 times prior to purchasing her. About 30 minutes after getting her off the trailer at our barn, I was walking her to her stall and I heard her stomp every other step. At first I thought she was kicking flies, but it was 10:30 at night. I had the barn manager watch her walk, and she was bringing her right hind leg almost up to her belly ever other or every two steps.
The trailer ride was uneventful as was the loading and unloading.
We called the vet out the next day and by the time the vet got there she wouldnt limp. The vet did flexion tests and we loged her in a walk, trot and canter, as well as turning her, bacing her, and doing whatever else we could think of to bring it out.
The vet did say she has a slight case of White Line Disease in that foot. and prescribed meds for it. She also told us if she starts hyperflexing again to take video.
A week ago I got a video of her doing it, only not as severely as before, and the barn manager took video of it the day before yesterday (that day it was just as severe as the first time) today I hand grazed her for about 45 minutes, and turned her out for 2 hours and there was no limp, only slight stiffness.
I am wondering if anyone has had a horse with white line exhibiting symptoms of stringhalt
sorry this is so long, I just want to be thorough
1 AnswerHorses1 decade agowhat the heck is a spring pole?
I saw a question about one earlier. I have something that may be one in my backyard. The Lady who lived here before me had American bulldogs, and did weight pulls with them. There is a heavy spring suspended from two thick ropes tied to trees. it has knotted ropes hanging from it. What is it for, how is it used. I have standard poodles and Borzoi, and they tug on it briefly, but then ignore it
My Boxer/Bulldog/Pit mix, however tugged on it a little more, but left it when I did
