This answers service is great. I come on here to find answers to things that I otherwise wouldn't know where to look.

  • Canola Oil used in baking produces carcinogens?

I've read that canola oil when heated to "high temperatures" whatever that' defined as, breaks down from monounsaturated fats to saturated and various carcinogens. Not sure how true this is. If true, does incorporating canola oil into a waffle recipe being cooked on a typical waffle iron cause for worry?

  • Return policy posted on receipt, not in store, can I return it?

So I got a refund, however here's my question. We purchased an item from a retailer and when we got home realized it wasn't what we thought it was. The receipt stated "No returns, all sales final" however this was not posted anywhere in the store where we could know about that before the point of sale. My understanding is that the policy needs to be posted for the consumer to see before the actual sale, not afterwards. True or not?

  • Car turns over, won't start?

2006 Scion TC. Hasn't been started for about 3 months. The battery is dead. Went to jump it, the starter turns the engine over, solenoid clicks, all accessories work when hooked up to jump, however no ignition after multiple tries. Should I dismiss the dead battery and move onto other causes, like fuel line/filter/pump or is it still possible this is a battery only problem. Thanx.

  • FOXCONN C51XEM2AA motherboard shuts down on startup?

Weird, weird problem. I boot up the computer, fans spin, it beeps, etc and then about 6 seconds into the process, it looses power. Replaced the powersupply with another, larger-watt supply. No difference. Cleared the CMOS, no difference. Strangely, if I hold the restart button on the case in, it continues to boot up. The moment I let go of the restart button, it dies, no power...I'm about to clip the 2 wires from the restart button and solder them together if I can't find a more sophisticated approach.

  • Bird behavior question?

I somewhat doubt I'll get a good answer to this question but, there is a small bird that I see frequently. It looks to be an adult and is able to fly. However, the bird will persistently pester other birds, some which are clearly of other species, and they will regurgitate and feed him. I thought this was only done with chicks?

  • Effective perspective of a Rebel Xti?

I've used film in a number of SLR cameras but Im becoming interested in the new digital side of the house. I understand the sensor's size causes any lens length to be multiplied by 1.6, so that the camera takes pictures through a 100mm lens as if it were a 160. That being said, how do you purchase a wide angle lens for this? If you buy a 20-something lens it at least becomes a 32mm lens. Also, is it true that the lenses intended for this sensor size will not work with future, "full" size sensors?

  • Why do people still support socialism?

I've been reading about the G8 protests. The usual cast of anti-globalizations, anti-captialists, anarchists, etc. Given that a quick study of all the so-called "socialist" regimes over the last century shows they all needed to kill and persecute their citizens in order to make it work, why do people still wish for a "socialist revolution"? Honest answers, not just flames of one side or the other please.

  • What does the bible say about those who came before Jesus's message?

What will happen to them? What about those who died never hearing either old or new testament, such as the generations of American Indian or far Easterners? Whatever you answer, where does it say say this?

  • Where was Jesus during Old Testament times?

Seriously, was he just hanging out in the background or was "partitioning" of God something that happened later?

  • Tech help needed -or - How many power sources do modern CPU's need?

Long story made short. Put together a system for first time since 90s.. It wont POST. There are onboard POST code LEDs on the motherboard. CAlled tech supprt, was told the code I was seeing means no power to the CPU and did I have the other plug, plugged in. Im not sure what they're talking about because the documentation that came with the board doesnt address this and the gentleman I spoke to was difficult to understand through his accent. Is there indeed more to powering a CPU then just plugging it into it's socket? Does motherboard need additional power beyond the 24pin connector?

PCSing there in a month. Im planning on buying a house and have been looking at homes online. Im a city boy, I like coffee shops and culture. However, I've been told that Camp Lejeune hosts basically none of this, but that Wilmington does. Unfortunately Wilmington is a long drive away. Is this area really this empty?

  • Question about running and heart rate.?

I run 3 times a week and walk quickly on two other days. I purchased a heart rate monitor and have been playing around with it. Im 28, so my theoretical heart rate max should be 192. My resting heart rate is about 60-65. When I walk (about as fast as I can). I tend to range between 115 and 120. When I run, I go 3 miles in about 22-23 minutes and my heart rate gets up to the mid 180s. This seems very high to me. Is this indicative of improper training or general cardio weakness? Are heart rates this high common? Thanx.

  • Why do Southerners drive so slow?

I grew up in metro Philadelphia and now live in Pensacola, FL. All over the South people will typically drive at or a little slower than the speed limit, which is typically really low given the street you may be on. If you pass people, they flash their brights at you in annoyance.

Perhaps it's not a North v South thing but rather a city v non-city issue. Any thoughts?

  • As a Christian how closely do you follow the 10 commandments?

I ask because there seems to be not much importance placed on things like no graven images, and not working on the sabbath, etc? Does the new testament supercede this somehow?

  • Why didn't Jesus appear to the Native American peoples?

Why did it take almost 1500 years for Jesus' preachings to reach them. What happened the generations of people who died without knowing his message, let alone that of the

Jewish peoples who lived prior to Christ.
