Im mechanically inclined, been tinkering on lawntractors and vehicles pretty much all my life.
Modifed lawntractor project - anyone else build one?
Ive seen atv questions asked here - this is 'sorta' related.
Past couple years ive been modifying a Murray lawntractor- from a stock 14HP single to a current 18HP twin - for now the stock trans is still in place- a 6" engine pulley and a 4" trans pulley nets me around 40 mph. I plan on more mods ) lowering- straight rear axle- full chain drive - go kart clutch - using golf kart 'slick' tires and rims - once this is 'finished' im building an even faster tractor ( top speed im aiming for is 60 mph or faster) from an old wheelhorse tractor. I have my setups all laid out - i dont need any more info, my question is :
Anyone building or have built one ( or thinking of it) just for the heck of it?
1 AnswerMotorcycles1 decade ago12.5HP Briggs and Stratton lawntractor motor. See details...?
Ive tinkered with lawntractors and engines for a while now, all different sized motors . One in particular, ive noticed has some issues. Its a 12.5HP Briggs and Stratton engine, the two ive owned have self destructed ( by previous owner) - lack of maintenece? Bad assembly/materials? These two were on mid 90's Murray widebody tractors with 40" decks. It just seems odd that this motor failed , when i have more engines alot older then these still running and being Briggs and Stratton engines as well, with no issues.
Anyone else have this motor on thier tractor and had any issues with it? I have the model numbers if needed.

Maintenance & Repairs1 decade agoI own a MTD lawntractor - anyone ever herd of this model? See details...?
Its a 1995 MTD 'Lowes Team Racing #11' special edition.
Details:
18.5HP Twin cylender flathead Briggs and Stratton motor
42" deck
Midnite blue and yellow paint with a yellow seat
Special decal package ( no longer OEM availible)
Type 3 hood ( looks like a current Bolens tractor from Lowes)
Hubcaps
4 wheel steering
I plan on over OEM restoring this ( polishing the motor, clearcoat paint) , im just curious if anyone else has seen or owned this special type of tractor. Not even Lowes recognizes it ( which i figured). I have 90% of the replacement parts for it, cept the decals and hubcaps ( hubcaps i can get - decals will need to be custom made).
Thanks

2 AnswersOther - Home & Garden1 decade agoUsing an automobile coil on a lawntractor?
Ive herd of someone using a standard automobile coil in place of a magneto on a average lawntractor, sounds feasable, only one thing.Wheres the signal to fire come from? Id try it if i knew, i have one tractor that need a $135 coil pack.
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoI own a MTD 'Team Lowes Racing' edition lawntractor - ever herd of it before?
Its a 1995 model - MTD Yardman ( has the front of a newer Bolens tractor) - 18.5HP Briggs twin cylender, 42" deck, special decal package ( no longer OEM availible) , midnite blue and yellow paint and of all things : 4 wheel steering. It runs, but still needs work, i plan on an above OEM finish on it for showing. Apparently its rare, since not even Lowes dosent even have info on it. Im just curious if anyone else owns or ever seen one before ( this cant be the only one) .

Plan on restoring, since noone, not even Lowes has herd of it. It has a 18.5HP briggs twin cylender motor, 4 wheel steering, midnite blue and yellow paint along with a special decal package, since decals are no longer availible, im forced to have them custom made. Im curious to see if anyones ever herd of this model.

I have one and plan on restoring it, for the fact that noone ( not even Lowes) has herd of this. Its a 18.5HP twin briggs, 42" deck and 4 wheel steering, plus a special decal package ( not availible from factory anymore). Just want to know if anyone has one or herd of one, Thanks.
