What brand/model two way radio should I get?
I have recently decided to get a pair or two for use at work so I can easily communicate with my assistants and my colleagues. We do most of our work in a city called Manila, which is in the Philippines. I understand that all the buildings, metal, etc. in a city can mess up the range, which is why I have no idea what to get.
The furthest any of the radios will be from each other would be about 1km.
Rugged bodies are a plus since I'm pretty clumsy and get into a wide range of environmental conditions pretty regularly.
It would be cool if I could use it to reach my friends who are all within a 25km radius (of varying elevations) from my house, but if it isn't feasible, then I'd be fine with using a lower end model just for work.
As far as I currently know, there aren't much restrictions on channels and frequencies available to the public here in the Philippines, but I'm not totally sure, either.
I'm currently considering the following due to overall bang for buck, a budget of about 130 USD, and range (I'd be open to other models if I didn't need all that range after all haha):
1 AnswerOther - Electronics7 years agoWhere can I find helium in Manila, Philippnes?
I live near the Buendia/Gil Puyat and Taft intersection so hopefully somebody would give me a nearby place.
I believe most places that sell balloons here use hydrogen.
2 AnswersPhilippines8 years agoCheap NAS storage? also how to set it up?
I'm looking for something like the WD Live Duo but with a usb 3.0 port just in case I need faster file transfers.
Will NAS storage work and work optimally with my cheapo TP-LINK TPWR941ND?
Would I need a faster router or something to be able to transfer files faster? LAN cables?
I have absolutely no knowledge on NAS storage and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to convert to NAS storage instead of using a bunch of backup drives.
2 AnswersOther - Computers9 years agoLumix FZ200, Canon SX40/50HS, or something else?
I've been a semi-pro photographer (still images) for some years now, and I've been interested in making videos for some time, but I always get confused when it comes to choosing a video camera. It's just way more complicated than choosing a still image camera. I'm using a Nikon system right now and I know from first hand experience that Nikon SLR's still produce pretty crappy videos, so going the video SLR route is not viable unless I go double system and buy Canons for video. I'll be using the video cameras for both professional and personal use. I do not think I need a broadcasting grade video camera, but if that's the only real option I have, I will save up for it.
I currently have the Canon SX40 HS, and while I am quite satisfied with its still image output, I can't say the same for its video output. The SX40 just hunts too much while recording video, and the videos seem too noisy in low light situations. Does the SX50 or the FZ200 make better videos in low light?
something like this would be my goal in the future:
http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-NEXFS700UK/
alas, I do not have 10,000 dollars to spend on a new video camera yet, so basically I'm looking for the best compromise of this camera. Something with pretty good video IQ, no weird focus hunting, higher FPS recording is a plus, but not necessary, and either a flexible range or interchangeable lenses.

one example would be Pres. Ferdinand Marcos's Oil Price Stabilization Fund.
1 AnswerGovernment9 years agoShould I get the retina display MacBook Pro?
I an a professional photographer and a multimedia arts student, so getting this laptop is pretty much a no brainer, but I also want to learn how to mix songs and stuff like a DJ, so I was wondering if not having a separate line out and headphone jack is a big deal or not. Also, is 16 GB of RAM really that important? I will have a class focusing on adobe after-effects within the next few terms, but apart from after effeects, I dunno if paying that extra money to double the RAM is really worth it.
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoWhat part time jobs can I find in the Philippines?
I'm currently 18 years old and I'm in my second year of college but still an incoming Sophomore in my current school (I transferred), I'm also a resident and citizen of the Philippines but I am also a citizen of Hong Kong. I'm planning to find a part time job (probs 6 hours max a day) because I am a bit of an impulsive buyer and need some extra money so I don't always end up broke before the school week ends.
I was wondering what opportunities are available right now so I have an Idea of what my options are and what I should be looking for
A friend of mine suggested getting a multilingual account job at a call center since I speak fluent english and know a little Mandarin, Fookien, Cantonese, and will be taking spanish classes soon (because of spanish relatives and all), but I'm not sure if there'd be part time positions available for multilingual accounts, or call centers for that matter.
6 AnswersPhilippines9 years agoAcer Aspire S3, Asus Zenbook, or Macbook Air?
Acer Aspire S3 (i5 or i7 variant), Asus Zenbook UX31 (i5 variant), or Macbook Air (the cheapest 13" variant)?
I'll be using this as a travel laptop and will be doing most of my actual work on a desktop. I'll be using adobe lightroom 3 most of the time, but also will occasionally use Photoshop CS5.1 and Sony Vegas 10. Sooner or later, I'll probably need to use programs that deal with making 2d or 3d graphics and animation, sound design, graphic design, photography, etc. for school and stuff, but the bulk of my work will most probably be done on a desktop. i'll be getting a laptop for times when I need to be productive but can't leave school, and when on a trip to somewhere far from home and I need a very portable laptop that may not be the fastest, but pretty fast and can handle at least a few hours on lightroom without running out of ram and stuff every half hour or so. hahaha.
6 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoDo I need a Nikon 50mm f/1.8D or should I skip it?
I already have a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 (non VC) and I was wondering whether I should get the highly praised 50mm or skip it and save the money for something like a Tamron 70-200 or maybe the new Nikon 85mm.
Btw I've been using a D5000 for the past two years and have no plans to upgrade to FX soon, but I do plan to get a used D90, a used D300, or a D300s and turn the D5000 into a backup or 2nd body
I mostly shoot fashion and portraits, but occasionally events like parties and conventions and sports.

I use a Yamaha CX-40 and I'm planning to get a few pedals, but my friends tell me that it could break my guitar's piezoelectric pickups.

it only happens when set to 1/1 at any zoom distance or when used off camera on a Phottix Aster. the batteries get really hot after use, too.
4 AnswersCameras1 decade agoWhat Camera Bag Would You Recommend?
just wanna ask everybody here what camera bag they would recommend for me.
it should fit:
- a 17 inch laptop
- a consumer grade SLR (nikon D5000 with 18-55mmVR, no grip)
- a few acessories (SB-600, spare batteries, remote shutter release, body cap, rear lens cap)
- and maybe a few books and clothes, and other misc. items
- if possible, some room for future upgrades
it doesn't matter wether the bag is a backpack, sling, shoulder bag, or some other type of bag. i will be using this for school so the space for misc. items will be very important to me. thanks in advance. :)
