I just recently got a pop-up saying that I have an important Windows update. I didn t trust it so I went to the Microsoft website to see if I had any high prioity updates to install. They found one called Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool that needs to be installed. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if that is legitiment software and why do I need to download it. I have been having some minor problems with my computer..and doing reg scans..etc on a daily basis but am just not sure if this new software is legit since some things are rogue. I used to use IE as my browser and a few yrs ago I switched over to Firefox and for about the last 2 months or so it keeps crashing on me everyday. Somedays just a few times and other days it crashes alot. Could someone please tell me how I can prevent that from happening? Could it be that I have some malicious software on my computer that I do not know about. I'm computer illiterate. Thank you.

I get all kinds of invalid things in my registry and tried to download reg cleaner to fix it but I think it said it would not work because they do not detect windows installer. Do I need to have windows installer on my computer? Please help.

I am not pc savy and can't afford to take it in somewhere. I have many things wrong with it.

I have alot of Windows hot-fixes and security updates in my add and remove programs. Can I delete them or do I need to leave them there?

I have dial-up and my computer is very slow and someone told me to run msconfig and click on the startup tab.Then uncheck everything but my ISP and antivirus then click ok. I started to do that and saw that I have many things there. Does anyone know if this will help to make it work better? If it removes all that is there would I have to reload everything? I don't understand why there is so many things listed under startup. Thanks.
