3 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoWhy do people adhere to the inaccurate color categroies?
Why is it that the terms black, white, yellow, brown, and red continue to be used to describe groups of people when many of the people in those groups the color categories are used to delineate are not really that color?
Why not use terms like pink, beige, brown, tan, etc. and not to describe groups but to describe individuals who are actually those colors?

2 AnswersMedia & Journalism1 decade agoIf female circumcisions were done to babies by doctors, would that make them ok in the West?
This is a follow up question to a quesion I asked a bit earlier. I am trying to understand the differing opinions about genital mutilation performed on boys and girls.
If female circumcisions were performed on newborn girls by licensed physicians in sterile hospital rooms, would that make them acceptable? According to my research, that is the only verifiable difference between mutilation of girls and mutilation of boys.

8 AnswersPlayStation1 decade agoWhy do people deny racism?
I can understand a person's right to say whether he or she is a racist, but why do people think they can speak about the existence of racism in general? Why do they want to? I was told by the university I teach at that our students are not racist BUT that I should tailor my teaching practices to accomodate the fact that many of them will find it difficult to be taught by an African-American woman. Why this contradiction? This is not a rant. I really want some insight into the psychology at work here.
22 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoAfrican Americans in Education programs?
This question is specifically for African Americans/ black Americans in (or who have been in) teacher education programs in the US. Have you experienced racism, prejudice, or anything else that made you feel uncomfortable from your mentors, professors, advisors. or lead classroom teachers? What were your experiences?
3 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoWhy do we celebrate drug addicts?
There have been so many shows and TV moments "honoring" Heath Ledger. The dude was in one or two halfway decent movies, but we are expected to revere him even though he sets a terrible example for young people. He chose drugs over his family and he was an irresponsible parent, so why do we need to honor him? People are acting as if the drugs he took were someone else's fault, yet there are so many PSA's telling kids to CHOOSE to stay off drugs. I don't get it. Why can't we tell the truth about this guy and stop celebrating him?
